(Clearwisdom.net) On July 20, 2003, more than 5000 Falun Gong practitioners attended the 2003 Washington DC Falun Dafa Experience Sharing Conference. They were representatives from North America, Taiwan, Europe, Australia and other locations. Master Li Hongzhi came to the different conference sites in person and lectured on the Fa in the main conference site.
Teacher Lectures on the Fa and Exposes the Persecution
At around 11:00 a.m. on July 20, 2003, Master Li Hongzhi arrived at the conference, and lectured on the Fa for about 40 minutes to more than 5,000 Dafa practitioners seated at the main conference site at Constitution Hall, National Society and five other separate meeting sites at the Capital Hilton.
According to what some of the practitioners in attendance recalled, Master Li Hongzhi emphasized at this Fa conference that the persecution is completely based on lies. It is different from previous campaigns of persecution, because this persecution has been covered up in society. The tests that the persecution has imposed upon Dafa practitioners are grim, the persecution against Dafa practitioners is severe, and so is the persecution of sentient beings. For humankind, it tramples upon human rights, beliefs and human nature. The persecution has seriously interfered with the entire Fa-rectification and the universe walking toward the future. All those who have participated in the persecution will be held accountable for their actions, and no one will be able to escape.
Huge banners at the sides of the main conference site read,
"With heavens clear and celestial bodies transparent, the cosmos is rectified, The mega-havoc is over, and the universe is illuminated."
These are two verses from "After Havoc" written by Master Li Hongzhi in January 1996. During four years of validating Dafa and clarifying the truth, more and more Falun Gong practitioners have understood the foreseeing and profound meaning of those two verses. From 1999 when Jiang claimed to "eliminate Falun Gong in three months" to today, the persecution has lasted for four years. During the last four years, Falun Gong practitioners around the world, especially countless Falun Gong practitioners in Mainland China, have endured unprecedented, grim tests. At the same time, amidst the persecution that is based on lies and covered up by lies, so many people's minds have been poisoned, losing the opportunity to be saved, and therefore resulting in the destruction of countless huge celestial bodies in the cosmos.
(Clearwisdom.net) Dafa practitioners from various places in Austria and Slovakia held an SOS parade in Vienna. The parade passed through scenic spots where tourists gathered in Wiener Staatsoper, Hofburg, Heldenplatz and Stephanskirche. A lot of passersby read the characters on the banners and asked for materials one after another to understand more. There were even some Chinese tourists who were surprised to see so many Falun Gong practitioners and banners such as "Global trial against Jiang". When people in the parade arrived at Stephanskirche, various activities took place in the city centre, including Falun Gong exercise demonstrations, a musical performance and a Chinese calligraphy demonstration.

Six Falun Gong practitioners wearing traditional Chinese costumes demonstrated Falun Gong exercises. The beautiful and peaceful demonstration attracted many people's attention and some tourists took photos. This was accompanied by a voiceover, which made many people wonder how such a peaceful cultivation practice could be persecuted so severely. Many people signed their names on the petition to release Falun Gong practitioner Xiong Wei, and wished the practitioners well. It suddenly rained for a couple of minutes in the afternoon. One passerby who expressed his support for us took off his long scarf without hesitation and covered up those signature letters and truth-clarifying materials, heedless of getting wet himself. One Chinese person from the Mainland said that many people in China in their hearts understood Falun Gong practitioners are innocent and some policemen that he knew are not willing to persecute Falun Gong practitioners anymore.

(Clearwisdom.net)On July 19, 2003, Dafa practitioners from across South East Queensland converged in capital city Brisbane to hold a series of activities to peacefully protest Chinese regime's four-year persecution of Falun Gong.
A police car led the procession, followed by practitioners in golden exercise suits holding banners stating, "Falun Dafa is good," and "Uphold justice in the world," and others. Behind them were two young women in white who carried a huge wreath in memorial, practitioners holding photos of practitioners who have been tortured to death, and practitioners holding banners with words in both Chinese and English, "Persecution cannot Crush our Spirit," and "Falun Dafa."
A "court of justice" was set up on a truck, surrounded by banners stating, "Falun Dafa Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance," "Four years is too long, China must stop suppressing Falun Gong," and photos of Dafa practitioners who have been tortured to death by Jiang's regime. "Jiang's ten crimes" were listed on the side of the truck.
Behind the truck was a huge arrangement composed of colorful balloons with the words Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance on them. The practitioners wearing traditional folk costumes of different countries and nationalities formed a grand procession, representing the worldwide spread of Falun Dafa. The practitioners walked peacefully to the Dafa music while sending righteous thoughts to eliminate the evil factors in other dimensions behind the persecution.
In the afternoon, practitioners exhibited "Falun Dafa's Wide Spread All Over the World" display boards at King George Square in front of the Town Hall. There was also a Falun Dafa artistic performance presented. A Brisbane Councillor attended and gave a supportive speech. Beautiful exercise demonstrations and elegant traditional Chinese dances and music attracted many tourists to stop and watch, including tourists from China. They witnessed the widespread of Falun Dafa around the world.
In the evening, practitioners held a candlelight vigil at King George Square and continuously sent righteous thoughts.
Dafa practitioners in Mackay area in Queensland also held activities simultaneously to expose the evil and call for an end to the persecution.
(Clearwisdom.net) On July 19-20, Melbourne Dafa practitioners held a series of activities, such as demonstrating the exercises, distributing Dafa truth-clarifying materials and holding a candlelight vigil to raise people's awareness of the four-year suppression. When the "Court of Justice" set up on Federal Plaza in downtown sentenced Jiang for crimes against humanity and genocide, the audience gave their warm applause.

Federal Plaza is situated across from the railway station in downtown, one of the most vibrant areas in Melbourne. Practitioners set up a "Court of Justice" to hold a mock trial against Jiang. Four people testified at the court. One was a Falun Gong practitioner who had been persecuted in China. Another was a CCTV reporter who had to resign because he did not want to be forced to make fake news; the third witness was "Liu Chunling", who died in the staged self-immolation on Tiananmen Square. She asked Jiang why he lied and had her killed, and why her 12-year-old daughter suddenly died when she was ready to leave the hospital. "Liu Chunling" said that she was very regretful, that if she only had genuinely practiced Falun Gong, things would not have ended like this. The fourth witness was an Australian practitioner who had traveled to Tiananmen Square in 2001 to appeal for Falun Gong but was arrested and beaten. She asked Jiang why he was extending the persecution to overseas.
Many people passing by showed great interest in watching the trial, and they accepted Dafa truth-clarifying materials and signed their names on the petition to bring Jiang to justice. Many tourists took pictures or videotaped the scene.
On the evening of July 20, Melbourne practitioners also held a candlelight vigil in front of the Chinese Consulate to commemorate those fellow practitioners who have been tortured to death in China in conjunction with the commemoration activities in Washington D.C.

(Clearwisdom.net) On Wednesday July 16, 2003, prior to the fourth anniversary of Jiang regime's persecution of Falun Gong in China, Toronto Falun Gong practitioners held a large public rally in front of Ontario's Parliament Buildings, calling for an end to the brutal persecution of Falun Gong in China, and calling for bringing Jiang to justice for launching and continuing the persecution.
Members of Provincial Parliament Mr. Mike Pulu and Mr. George Smith gave speeches at the rally to support Falun Gong. Mr. Mike Pulu had attended a press conference held last year the same day to support Falun Gong. At the rally on Wednesday, he said, "One day, we will see something happen in China, we will see people believe in kindness, and we will see the principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance taught by Master Li Hongzhi prevail in Chinese society."
After July 20, 1999, Mr. George Smith was the first MPP to stand up publicly to support Falun Gong in Ontario. He once requested all of his colleagues in the provincial parliament to condemn the persecution. Today, he spoke once again to call upon China to stop persecuting Falun Gong. A congratulatory letter from MPP Jerry Martinluke on behalf of provincial premier Eves and people in his precinct was also read at the event.
Attorney Joe Etian highly praised Dafa practitioners in his speech, saying that everything Dafa practitioners have done has changed history, and has enabled people with a sense of justice like him to join in the battle between good and evil. He said that he was fortunate to participate in the lawsuit against Chinese former leader Jiang last year filed with the International Court and UN Human Rights Committee Against Persecution and other organizations, because Jiang is the prime criminal who gave orders to suppress Falun Gong.
At the press conference, a Falun Dafa spokesperson reiterated that over the past four years of brutal persecution, Jiang's regime extended the persecution to overseas, in particular holding exhibitions in the Chinese Consulate General in Toronto to incite hatred toward Falun Gong practitioners. The practitioners hoped that the Canadian government could investigate the matter.
Toronto resident Ms. Zhang Li, former senior engineer at the headquarters of the Beijing Iron-Steel Design Institute, told a reporter, "On the morning of July 20th, 1999, I went to do the exercises, and there were few practitioners at the practice site. I was told that the police began arresting Falun Gong practitioners the previous night. I went to the Appeals Office, but two police cars stopped me at Xidan intersection. A policeman wearing a helmet twisted my hands behind my back and took me to the police station opposite Tiananmen Square. Later, I was taken to a bus and sent to Fengtai Stadium. On the way, I saw seven to eight armored cars driving from Zhongnanhai, and I also saw fully armed soldiers in helmets got out of the cars, carrying guns with bayonets. The government treated unarmed civilians as enemies."
Canadian Falun Gong practitioner Li Bo's mother Ms. Lu Xiuzhen is a retired, well-respected teacher. She was illegally detained in the notorious Masanjia Forced Labor Camp and remains there today.
Falun Gong practitioners called upon people from all walks of life to stand up to uphold justice. As of today, the Canadian government has helped secure the release of more than ten Falun Gong practitioners.
Spokesperson of the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong Mr. Yang Kaiwan presented an investigation report on China's persecution of Falun Gong. Information about China's use of one quarter of the nation's financial resources to persecute Falun Gong, in particular, drew the attention of MPs and media on hand.

After the press conference, there was a mock trial for Jiang's crimes. Several Falun Gong practitioners acted as witnesses and explained the crimes Jiang has committed, why these crimes constitute genocide, and why the end of the persecution would be a great event in the world. A young mother, on behalf of Ms. Wang Lixuan and her eight-month son that were tortured to death in China, condemned Jiang's persecution of mothers and children. Another practitioner explained the facts of staged self-immolation on Tiananmen Square.
Ten media organizations came to cover the activity. The media included the largest and most influential national newspaper in Canada--The Globe and Mail, as well as the largest Chinese radio station in Canada.
In conjunction with the public rally, there was a one-week signature collection drive, requesting the Canadian government to stop Jiang's regime from extending its persecution of Falun Gong to Canada. The same day, there was a large-scale car parade. Practitioners were separated into three groups. They decorated their cars and paraded down several busy streets with many Chinese people. The activity was quite successful, as a lot of local residents got the chance to see the facts for themselves.
(Clearwisdom.net) From July 14 to July 18, 2003, prior to the fourth year of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners launched by the Jiang regime, Falun Gong practitioners from Ottawa and Montreal held a series of activities on Parliament Hill and the Chinese Embassy in Canada to oppose the persecution. They held a candlelight vigil, a signature collection drive with the theme "Stop inciting hatred toward Falun Gong," a press conference, a photo exhibit, a film-showing, march and a public rally.
Four years ago, on July 20, 1999, Chinese authorities began a nationwide arrest of Falun Gong practitioners. At the same time, Jiang mobilized the military and police to publicly beat Falun Gong practitioners including the elderly, women, and children. On July 21-22, 1999, Falun Gong practitioners who heard the news successively went to local appeals offices ended up being arrested. According to incomplete statistics, more than 300,000 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to illegal detention and beatings at that point.
Falun Gong practitioners said in a statement published on July 18, 2003, "Four years of brutal persecution and genocide must be ended." Canadian resident Bill Liang presented to the local people and the media his 67-year-old mother Ms. Huang Xiuchao's experience. Ms. Huang benefited both physically and mentally because of practicing Falun Gong. After the persecution began, Ms. Huang was abducted for distributing Falun Gong truth-clarifying materials. Bill said, "Four months after my mother was illegal detained, and the authorities put on a ridiculous 'show trial' and sentenced her to four years in prison. There was no audience during the show trial; the time, location and judge were all kept secret. It was a farce. When my mother was in detention, an anonymous phone call to inform my family to hand in 30,000 Yuan [The average monthly salary of an urban worker in China is 500 Yuan.] to have my mother released. But my family and I don't know where my mother is now. I'm worried that I might lose the opportunity to see my mother again in the midst of such a systematic brutal persecution."
According to the Falun Dafa Information Center, during the past four years since the persecution began on July 20, 1999, there have been 778 confirmed deaths of Falun Dafa practitioners due to the persecution. Torture death cases cover more than 30 provinces, autonomous regions and cities across the country. Among those who have been tortured to death, 48% are women, and 26.5% were of ages from 50 to 70. In order to force Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their belief, the authorities used at lease 40 different torture methods against them. There are at least 6,000 Falun Gong practitioners who have been illegally sentenced to prison. Over 10,000 practitioners have been sentenced to forced labor camps. More than a thousand practitioners have been forcefully sent to psychiatric hospitals to be tortured with injections that are damaging to the central nervous system. Large groups of Falun Gong practitioners have been forcefully sent to local brainwashing classes, where they have been subjected to both physical and mental torture. Many more practitioners have been
severely beaten and had large sums of money extorted from them.
Ms. Lucy Zhou said, "Falun Gong, as a belief, has been widely spread to more than 60 countries, but only the Jiang regime has suppressed it in China. Four years of persecution has been entirely based on brutal torture, lies and incitement of hatred. In the face of huge pressure, Falun Gong practitioners have not yielded, nor have they taken extreme actions. Instead, they peacefully and rationally called for an end to the persecution and exposed the lies, and at the same time took legal action to seek justice. At present, Falun Gong practitioners around the world have or plan to sue Jiang and "610 Office"*, and put them on trial. According to International Criminal Court Stipulations, the persecution of Falun Gong imposed by Jiang and '610 Office' fits the definition of the crimes of genocide, torture and crimes against humanity."
*The 610 Office is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political or judicial systems.

It has been four years since the Jiang regime began its suppression of Falun Gong. This year, Falun Gong has launched a global "Bring Jiang to Justice" campaign and is suing Jiang in the courts of several countries for his crimes of genocide. Taiwan Falun Gong is also joining in the global events around July 20, and will hold a memorial gathering and candlelight vigil in Taipei and a major parade in Gaoxiong City.
The Lawsuit against Jiang
At least 748 Falun Gong practitioners have been tortured to death from July 20, 1999 to July 6, 2003.
However, it is indicated, in a study done at the end of October 2001, that quite likely more than 1,600 Falun Gong practitioners have died in detention. In addition, over 10,000 have been illegally sentenced to forced labor camps, several thousand have been forcibly sent to mental hospitals where they are subjected to injections harmful to the central nervous system. Others have been sent to brainwashing centers where they suffer both physically and spiritually, and many more practitioners have been subjected to beatings and other forms of corporal punishment, rape and financial extortion.
In October 2002, Falun Gong changed from being a victim and passively enduring the persecution, and took major steps to bring Jiang Zemin to justice and to restore and uphold justice. For the first time, a lawsuit was brought against the former dictator and the "610 Office" for torture, crimes against humanity and genocide at the U.S. Federal District Court in Illinois. [Note: the "610 Office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.]
On January 20, 2003, the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong was established. Its main task is to "investigate the criminal conduct of all institutions, organizations, and individuals involved in the persecution of Falun Gong; to bring such investigation, no matter how long it takes, no matter how far and deep we have to search, to full closure..."
Memorial and Candlelight Vigil to be Held in Taipei
Zhang Qingxi, President of the Taiwan Falun Dafa Association, announced that on the four-year anniversary of the brutal suppression of Falun Gong under Jiang's regime, the Taiwan Falun Gong practitioners and other human rights supporters will hold a memorial gathering on July 20. The memorial is to expose the brutal persecution of Jiang's regime to the Taiwanese people and to make public the current situation and development of the lawsuits against Jiang presently underway in many countries.
The gathering will be held in the Da'an Forest Park in Taipei. Between 4:30 p.m. and 5:50 p.m., the five sets of Falun Gong exercises will be demonstrated and taught to the public free of charge, as usual. The memorial itself will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Representatives from each political party and the media are expected to be present at the memorial. From 7:00 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. there will be a candlelight vigil, with poetry readings, music, and a film viewing.
Activities in Gaoxiong City
Gaoxiong Falun Gong practitioners will protest against the four years of persecution by means of a signature collection for human rights, exercise demonstrations, a parade with over a thousand practitioners in attendance, and an evening party.
Yuan Shuzhen, contact person for the activities in Gaoxiong, said that this persecution had led to the breakup of thousands of families in China. Additionally, the persecution has extended into more than 60 countries throughout the world, because Jiang Zemin not only persecutes Falun Gong in China, but he also actively attempts to deceive people all over the world by spreading lies and defaming Falun Gong. As the persecution undermines and damages the human pursuit of noble moral principles and conscience, it has caused immeasurable losses to society. Ms. Yuan appealed to the Taiwanese people to support the lawsuit against Jiang Zemin and to help make this issue of basic human rights and freedom move beyond the boundary of one country, to become a worldwide issue.
The signature collection to support Falun Gong has also been launched in different areas of Taiwan, starting on July 12 and ending on July 20. On July 20, Falun Gong exercise demonstrations will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at City Hall in Gaoxiong City. From 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the same day, a parade with a thousand people will be held. The parade will start from Wufu Zhonghua Road, travel down Wufu Road, then to Chenggong Road, Sanduo Road, Guanghua Road, and back to Wufu Road and then to the Cultural Center.
The second major event of the day, an evening party, will be held in Laogong Park. The party is scheduled to go from 6:30 p.m. until 9:10 p.m.

It was a day of protests on Parliament Hill yesterday as Falun Gong supporters shared space with Iranian protesters.
About 60 Falun Gong supporters were on the Hill to round up support and awareness for their cause.
They were marking the fourth anniversary of China's persecution against those who believe in the principle of Falun Dafa that includes the spreading of truth, compassion and forbearance.
"The Chinese government's persecution against Falun Gong practitioners is fuelled by lies, hate, evil and brutality," said Shawn Li, member of Falun Dafa Association of Canada.
Li added that because of the determination of Falun Gong practitioners, persecution against its supporters in China is waning.
"We can see this because we are beginning to expose the lies," said Li.

They highlighted the persecution of American citizen Charles Li, who is being subjected to forced brainwashing, force-feeding and beatings in a Chinese jail. It shows clearly that Jiang's persecution of Falun Gong has been extended to the whole world.

(Clearwisdom.net) On July 13, 2003, Korean Falun Gong practitioners gathered at Mailuoni Park on a road of the University of Seoul, calling for help to stop the four-year brutal persecution of Falun Gong in China. The activity was broken into two parts. The first part included a one-minute standing silent tribute and a reading of memorial for Falun Gong practitioners in China who have been tortured to death, introduction of Falun Dafa, practitioners' sharing cultivation experiences, demonstration of the five sets of exercises, exposing the persecution, reading Resolution No. 188 passed by the U.S. Congress, and informing the public of the lawsuit against Jiang. After reading a statement from a human rights group in support of Falun Gong, the practitioners held a march along the university road, and at the same time, introducing Falun Dafa and teaching people to do the exercises. The second part of the activity included a concert and a truth-clarifying movie.
The activity enabled the Korean government, the media and citizens to gain a deeper understanding of the goodness of Falun Dafa and Dafa practitioners' peaceful appeal following the principle of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance."

Yomiuri Shimbun: The Kaneko Yoko Rescue Committee Visits Shimane and Asks for Help in Their Rescue Effort
Japanese Yomiuri Shimbun recently reported on a rescue appeal conducted by members of the Kaneko Yoko Rescue Committee. They appealed for 38-year-old Ms. Kaneko Yoko, who lived in Niigata County, Japan, and is imprisoned in a Chinese labor camp. In Japan, members of the Kaneko Yoko Rescue Committee who toured across the country visited the Shimane County Office and the Matsue City Labor Department, and requested the local government's sympathy and help.
According to rescue committee members, Kaneko Yoko, who was born in China, traveled back to China in May of last year. She was arrested while distributing Falun Gong truth-clarification materials in Beijing. Two Japanese citizens traveling with her were forcibly deported. Only Chinese citizen Ms. Kaneko Yoko was imprisoned, and is now not even allowed to have visitors. Members of the Rescue Committee collected signatures in front of the Matsue Bus Station on the day of their visit to Kaneko Yoko's local government. The Kaneko Yoko Rescue Committee activities in Shimane County will continue until July 10.
The Chunichi: In Order to Support the Rescue of Ms. Kaneko Yoko, Arrested for Her Belief in Falun Gong, Kanazawa City Holds Signature Collecting Activities
The Chunichi reported on July 5 about Ms. Kaneko Yoko (who was born in China, with the Chinese name of Lu Rong), a 38-year-old practitioner of a qigong group called Falun Gong, who was arrested by Chinese officials. Her supporters held activities to collect signatures in Kanazawa. Ms. Kaneko Yoko married a Japanese citizen and lived in Niigata County. She began practicing Falun Gong six years ago. The Chinese government defamed Falun Gong and began persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Kaneko Yoko went to China temporarily in May of last year. Because of distributing flyers in Beijing that condemn the persecution, she was detained. The last time her husband was allowed to visit her was August of 2002. However, even he is unaware of whether Ms. Kaneko Yoko is still alive or not.
The signature collecting activities were sponsored by the "Kaneko Yoko Rescue Committee." These activities began across the country in August 2002. The goal is to submit all the collected signatures to the foreign affairs department, and request that the government treat this as a diplomatic issue.
Today, its committee members distributed flyers that reported the situation in detail and appealed to them for support. According to the plan, similar activities will be held in Fushan on July 5 and in Niigata on July 6. One committee member said: "What Kaneko Yoko is met with is a total infringement upon her human rights. Through this activity we're trying to raise awareness of her plight to more people, with hopes that the Japanese media will pay more attention to this issue."

Because the British Prime Minister, Mr. Tony Blair, is going to make a state visit to China on July 20, the practitioners hope Mr. Blair will raise the human rights issue with the leaders of the Chinese Communist Party during his visit to China.

At about 2 p.m., the practitioners arrived at the appeal site assigned by the police. They then put up banners, practiced Falun Gong exercises and sent forth righteous thoughts, as well as distributing leaflets to the passers-by. At 3 p.m., a few representatives of Falun Gong practitioners went into Downing Street as arranged to hand in several appeal letters to the Prime Minister's Office. Those appeal letters were written by several Falun Gong practitioners who sincerely wanted to deliver their thinking from their hearts to the Prime Minister after they heard he was going to visit China in few days. They hope that during Mr. Blair's visit to China, the Prime Minister will raise this issue to the Chinese leaders and ask them to stop persecuting Falun Gong practitioners in China, especially Mr. Jian He, who is UK practitioner Mr. Bin He's younger brother. Jian He was arrested and tortured by Wuhan police, and has been secretly kept in a local hospital. Three other UK practitioners also have family members imprisoned in china: Baolian Zhu and Yongjie Zhu detained in a Chinese prison and labor camp. Mr. Xujun Zheng, former visiting scholar to the University of Liverpool, and his wife Nan Su have been detained in Beijing Tuanhe Labor Camp and the No.1 Sichuan Female Prison respectively.
During the 5-hour peaceful appeal, there was occasional light rain to cool down the hot weather. Falun Gong practitioners continued to practice the exercises and send forth righteous thoughts every hour. When passers-by saw practitioners peacefully doing meditation, many of them stopped and carefully read the banners, and then asked for Falun Gong materials or took photos of practitioners. Some of them also enquired about Falun Gong classes. Among the passers-by, there were some Chinese tourists. Practitioners were very happy when they saw those Chinese tourists accept the truth-clarifying leaflets and VCD's gladly. The UK Falun Gong practitioners insist on clarifying the truth of Falun Gong, appealing peacefully, and letting many warm-hearted British people know how to support Falun Gong. At this time, practitioners also handed in the signatures collected in the UK to the Prime Minister's Office.
Towards evening, after practitioners finished sending forth righteous thoughts, the appeal activity in front of Downing Street came to a successful close.

The Falun Dafa Information Center reported on June 18 that a 26-year-old Falun Dafa practitioner Zhu Zhiyong from Liuan City, Anhui Province, was verified to have been killed on September 18, 2003 at the Valve Factory, affiliated with Brigade One of Baihu Labor Camp in Liujiang County, Anhui Province. The camp police said that he died because he refused to give up his belief in Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance. The details of his death are being investigated.
Yesterday a policeman from the Interrogation Section of the valve factory verified the death of Zhu Zhiyong.
He said, "Zhu Zhiyong was arrested and detained because he practiced Falun Gong. The camp had once carried out brainwashing on him. Because he resumed the practice of Dafa after he was released, he was arrested again and sentenced to 4 years of forced labor education."
He also said, "After three years of labor education, he still refused to give in." He was very hesitant to disclose the cause of Zhu Zhiyong's death. He claimed that it was an "accident."
It has been reported that five brigades have been established in Baihu Labor Camp, Lujiang County, Anhui Province. When we called the valve factory and asked about the cause of Zhu Zhiyong's death, everyone who answered the phone would immediately hang up.

On July 1, 2001, authorities of the Huhhot Female Forced Labor Camp held a conference under the pretense of the day of the Chinese Communist Party's establishment. They made a rule that each Falun Gong practitioner would be guarded by three or four prisoners. The police and the head of the camp had continuous patrols keeping watch on the practitioners.
Right after the police announcement, the authorities had several collaborators* make speeches composed of propaganda against Falun Gong. During the break after the second collaborator spoke, Falun Gong practitioner Liu Zhenyu stepped up calmly to the microphone and called out, "Falun Dafa is good!" The words lasted just a few seconds, but the confident move in such an evil environment showed the firm righteous belief of Ms. Liu, a twenty-year old undergraduate who was dismissed from college and jailed by Jiang's regime for practicing Falun Gong.
Right after she spoke, the policemen viciously dragged her down from the stage and out of the meeting place along the ground. As the Falun Gong practitioners stood up one after another, the policemen panicked and shouted, "Sit down; be seated immediately!" The inmates also moved to block the practitioners' mouths and hold them down. What happened in a few minutes proved a principle that Teacher explained to us, "The evil has utilized the power in bad people's hands to create turmoil for nearly two years, using the most base actions ever in human history--whether ancient or modern, Chinese or foreign--and employing all the most malicious means to persecute Dafa and its cultivators. Its aim is to use coercive measures to change Dafa cultivators' hearts and have them give up their cultivation practice. This is futile." Ms. Liu did not show up for dinner in the dinning room. Despite being gagged by the police, the people coming back after their slave labor jobs heard her pained moaning that night, which transmitted from the third floor to the first floor. Every day the police abused her inhumanly using different tortures such as beatings and electric shocks. They even locked her up with a kind of handcuff or shackle called "wolf's fang" for days.
I hope that our jailed fellow practitioners will confront the Jiang regime's thugs with righteous thoughts and refuse to cooperate with this evil persecution. The Falun Dafa practitioners' determination is powerful. As Teacher said, "No matter what the situation, do not cooperate with the evil's demands, orders, or what it instigates. (Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Liao Yuanhua, a resident of Wuxue City of Hubei Province, was illegally arrested for practicing Falun Gong. Prior to the arrest, he was the Discipline Committee Secretary of Wuxue City Forestry Bureau. He followed a high moral standard, and his work performance was outstanding.
In June 2000, Mr. Liao Yuanhua was detained. He was sent to Fanjiatai Labor Camp in Shayang City of Hubei Province, where he repeatedly suffered inhumane persecution. His effort to clarify the truth with a kind heart only caused more severe torture.
Below are the four major tortures Mr. Liao Yuanhua suffered at the labor camp:
1) Within a month after Mr. Liao was sent to the labor camp, policemen He Ping, Shi Huaping and Zu Jian instigated a group of criminals to beat Liao. One of his legs was broken during the torture and to this day he struggles to get around.
2) In the brickyard kiln of Fanjiatai Labor Camp, it is 80?C (around 160? F to 170?F), and the burning bricks are red-hot. One day the police pushed Liao Yuanhua onto a pile of burning bricks. With smoke coming from his burnt body, Liao Yuanhua fainted instantly. The police watched and laughed at his suffering.
3) Policeman Xiao Tianbo put Mr. Liao in handcuffs and foot shackles, and locked him into a room. Xiao then assigned four criminals to torture Mr. Liao for 21 days. Everyday, cries of pain could be heard from far away for at least two to three hours. Some kind-hearted policemen said, "It is horrible, even the birds wouldn't stop near that window."
4) The police forced the lame and hurt Liao Yuanhua to do heavy labor jobs. Later policemen Xiong Zuyong and other police started spreading rumors in Wuxue City and other areas in Hubei Province that Liao Yuanhua betrayed his conscience and Falun Gong. They wanted to destroy Liao Yuanhua mentally in this way.
Currently Liao Yuanhua has injuries all over his body, and his face and ears have suffered serious damage due to the torture.
The friends and relatives of Mr. Liao Yuanhua and other kind-hearted people are paying attention to Mr. Liao's situation. We hereby call upon the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong to set up a case and investigate the details of crimes committed by Fanjiatai Labor Camp in Division No. 4, Subgroup No. 7.

(Clearwisdom.net July 10) Police arrested practitioners Li Yang and Fu Feng (alias) from Liaoning Province on the evening of May 12, 2003 while they were posting the words "Falun Dafa is good" in a park. Li Yang was knocked unconscious by several police officers and was handcuffed from the back. The police stole two cell phones, a pager, 700 Yuan* cash and a house key from Li Yang. Afterwards, without getting any search warrant and without the presence of Li Yang's family members, the police searched his home. They took a bed cover, 70 or more Dafa books, 600 truth-clarification brochures, 2000 flyers, 1400 truth-clarification VCDs, "Minghui Weekly," a CD burner and 3000-Yuan cash. Then the police detained the two Dafa practitioners for 15 days.
Fifteen days later, the two Dafa practitioners were surprisingly released with the approval of the detention center officials. The police wanted to entrap more Dafa practitioners. The two Dafa practitioners understood the policemen's trick and moved away from their homes after being released. The police's plot failed and they showed their real intention. Under the direction of the chief officer of the City "610 Office"** and secretary of Political and Judiciary Committee, the city mobilized a dozen police officers and vehicles from police department, procurator's office and detention center, and repeatedly harassed the children and relatives of the two practitioners, demanding to know where they were. After failing to get any information (their family members indeed did not know where they went), the police illegally detained one of the practitioner's daughter (a non-practitioner) at the end of June for more than 50 hours. Later the daughter's employer bailed her out. The police threatened, "If we cannot put the Falun Gong practitioners under arrest, we will not let their family members live a normal life and we will arrest all of the family members."
Police also adopted methods of secretly following, waiting in hiding, and asking for collaborators'*** assistance to arrest the Dafa practitioners. Up to the moment of the writing of this article, the area surrounding the houses of the Dafa practitioner was still under 24 hours surveillance. Among the relatives of the practitioners, two (non-practitioners) were also forced to stay away from their homes. A son-in-law (a non-practitioner) was arrested when he was shopping for vegetables in a food market . He was illegally detained for 8 days with a charge of "hiding a crime." The police even threatened to sentence him, trying to arrest Dafa practitioners by using their relatives as hostages.

In order to "transform" Dafa practitioners, the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center uses so-called "helpers" to carry out the persecution. For each practitioner, one or two "helpers" are assigned to live with and monitor him or her closely. To make sure there are enough "helpers," the brainwashing center asks each practitioner's work place to send in a person to monitor the practitioner. In addition, they also hired many thugs to work as "helpers."

Mr. Wan Chao, 33, was a teacher at the Langjun Town Luda Primary School of Hubei Province's Yingcgeng City. Because he was a Falun Gong practitioner, Mr. Wan was taken away on 4/2/2003 by the Langjun Police Station, and illegally sent to a forced labor camp. Through various rescue efforts, he was released on 4/28/2003. The Director of the Langjun Education Board, Mr. Xia Zhaoqun, and the Principal of Luda Primary School, Mr. Zhou Hua, then held "talks" many times with Mr. Wan, pressuring him to write a guarantee letter promising not to distribute Falun Gong truth clarifying flyers, and promising not to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. They threatened to deduct 6,000 Yuan* of his salary and send him to a brainwashing center, claiming this was the idea from the "higher authorities". Mr. Wan refused to give in, and thus his monthly salary of May was reduced 70 Yuan without any reason given.
At noon on 6/27/2003, Luda Primary School Principal, Mr. Zhou Hua, led Langjun Police Station's political instructor, Mr. Liu Mingfang, and Deputy Director, Mr. Cao Guochao, charging into Mr. Wan's house to force him into a brainwashing class. Mr. Wan ran out of a door but was closely followed by Liu and Cao. There was no way to escape, so he jumped into a pond nearby his home. Then the policeman, Mr. Liu, went into the water to catch him. The spectators crowded around as these two men were pulled up out of the water to land. While Mr. Liu was holding tightly on Mr. Wan's belt, two lady spectators loosened his hand to let Mr. Wan run away. Then the three men, Mr. Zhou, Mr. Liu, and Mr. Cao, tried to stay at Mr. Wan's house, waiting for him to come home later, but were chased out by the villagers.
At around 3 p.m. that same day, in two police cars, Mr. Liu Mingfang returned with a Zhongli village official and six or seven policemen from the Dong Mafang Police Station. They attempted to kidnap Mr. Wan's wife as a hostage. Mrs. Wan escaped using wisdom, so the police took away two of Mrs. Wan's uncles. The police used these two as hostages to force Mr. Wan to show up. Meanwhile, the police political instructor Mr. Liu mentioned the names of the two lady spectators who had earlier helped Mr. Wan escape. Later, one of Mrs. Wan's uncle was set free but the other was placed into custody at the Dong Mafang Police Station for one day, and then illegally sent to Yingcheng City's No. 2 Detention Center.
Mr. Wan's relatives went to the police station demanding the release of the uncle. The unreasonable police requested trading Mr. Wan for the uncle, otherwise the uncle would be sentenced to serve a jail term. TheYingcheng "610 Office"** and Langjun police station searched everywhere for Mr. Wan and created conflicts among his relatives. They claimed that Mr. Wan's mother-in-law helped hide him and that there would be "no big deal" as to their asking Mr. Wan's to come for "study" 20 days at the police station. If the mother-in-law would not cooperate to turn in Mr. Wan, then his wife's uncle would be thrown behind bars. Mr. Wan's mom, aunt, brother, and sister-in-law listened to the police and so forced his mother-in-law to turn him in. Mr. Wan Chao and his wife are now forced to live homeless, while his mother-in-law is harassed to the point of having no peace in her daily life.
Langjun Police Station and the local "610 Office" ended up abducting a high school teacher Mr. Xu Xuanzhi to the Hubei Province's brainwashing center as taking Mr. Wan's place. As another practitioner, together with Mr. Wan, Mr. Xu had been caught by the police this past April and illegally detained for more than 10 days at the Yingcheng City's No. 2 Detention Center.

(Clearwisdom.net) Doing Falun Gong exercises outdoors has many advantages. We can practice the exercises, and at the same time, validate Dafa and introduce Dafa to the public. So people can learn more about Falun Gong with their own eyes and make their own judgments.
I remember that during the International Human Rights Conference in Geneva, we applied for permission to practice the exercises in front of a shopping center. One lady in her 50's noticed the slow and gentle movements of the exercise as she was walking out. She enjoyed watching them very much and said, "This is not at all like what the Chinese government has said."
On one occasion in Chinatown I did the sitting meditation. After doing the exercise I went to the truth clarifying posting boards; one gentleman came to me there and said, "I watched you for a long time, you sat there so peacefully and were so calm, how can it be like what is said in the Chinese government's propaganda? It is not like that."
I think that weekends and holidays are good opportunities to validate Dafa by means of practicing Falun Gong exercises at tourist destinations. We don't have to go to others countries to do this. Instead, people from different countries come to visit ours. Psychologically, people like to look for different kinds of things while touring places. The calm and peaceful appearance, slow and gentle movements following the harmonious music will attract the attention of people who walk by.
Dafa practitioners are very busy. We feel that there is not enough time to do what we want to do. But we still need to practice the Falun Gong exercises. If each of the Dafa practitioners overseas could practice Falun Gong at a tourist location once or twice a week, the tourists who see Falun Gong may tell their friends and relatives back home about what they saw, thus taking with them the truth about Falun Dafa to various parts of the world. If we practice Falun Gong outdoors in public, the predestined people will definitely be led to us.
Master Li said in 'Teaching the Fa at the Washington, D.C. International Fa Conference': "So in today's world, we can't not be responsible for other sentient beings, we can't not be responsible for other sentient beings' obtaining the Fa in the future, and we can't not lay a foundation for other sentient beings to obtain the Fa in the future, because they could well be beings from your system." Master Li also said this year in 'Lecturing on and Explaining the Fa at the Metropolitan New York Fa Conference': "If a nationality or a country doesn't have Dafa disciples right now, it will bring them a ton of difficultyí and that's at a very minimum. So no matter how few Dafa disciples there are in a certain place, that is hope for that nationality."
When we practice Falun Gong exercises in public, we are at the same time clarifying the truth to the people and creating the conditions for people to obtain the Fa in the future. When we practice the exercises there; it seems that we are doing nothing else, but we are probably doing a lot more. Although we practice there quietly without uttering a word; one picture is probably worth a thousand words. Truth clarifying materials can be placed next to the practice site so that people who wish to learn the truth can pick them up by themselves. The pictures and words on the display boards explain to them clearly that Dafa is widespread in the world and that it is also being persecuted viciously in Mainland China. Some people may wait for us to finish the exercise to ask for more information on the subject.
I think that the criminals who persecute Dafa practitioners are the most scared when they come to know that other people can see Falun Gong practices in America, Europe, Asia, Australia, etc; thus this is also what Dafa practitioners should do. The Chinese people touring overseas would also tell other people about what they saw when they go back to China. Furthermore, people are more willing to accept the truth clarifying materials handed to them when they see the practice, and the truth clarifying can thus achieve a better effect.
Time passes quickly, let us cherish the summer!

(Clearwisdom.net) One time when a practitioner was in conflict with a fellow practitioner, a new conflict arose between she and a third practitioner. She could not bear it any more and came to talk with me. Looking at the surface it was a cultivation issue. Fundamentally, though, it was the old forces' interference and sabotage. When a problem arises, the standpoint from which we deal with it is very important.
Disregarding the problem itself, I don't think we need to comment on who's right and who's wrong, or judge the case as it stands. Nothing (including conflicts) we encounter in Fa-rectification cultivation is a coincidence. This is also the old forces' arrangements. The wicked old forces take advantage of our human attachments to create conflicts. This is another form of old forces' interference and sabotage, in which they attempt to split us up from the inside. We need to clearheadedly and rationally recognize this. Who would be happy to see practitioners stick to their own views and argue in disagreement with one another? The evil. At critical moments, we should not uphold everyday people's feelings or a certain mentality; we should instead calm down and measure our words and actions with the Fa. If we treat the conflicts from the standpoint of the Fa, we would not blame each other.
Master told us, "when conflicts arise between two people and it's seen by a third person, even the third person should think to himself, 'Oh, they're having a conflict. Why is it that I was there to see it? Is it because I have certain attachments? Is it because I have that kind of problem as well?'" ("Lecture at the Australia Fa Conference"(1999)) If that thing happened to me, was I able to take the Fa as the Master and face it with calm mind? Maybe my mind would be moved also, or even more than the other practitioner's. I further looked inward and realized that I, too, have competition and show-off mentalities, and lack virtues such as modesty. Sometimes I argue over a petty thing, or even don't let others off when my opinion turns to be right, all of which are everyday people's postnatal notions that uphold "self" and "selfishness." We cultivate in a human society and have various extents of human attachments that have not been well cultivated. Usually we think that we can let go of all attachments, but when encountering conflicts, the attachments will be exposed. With different extents of attachments, we manifest different states of mind. However, as long as we truly regard the Fa as Master, we will be able to see clearly the essence of things from the standpoint of the Fa and upgrade ourselves.
Of course, when conflicts occur, the people involved feel uncomfortable in mind and cannot calm down. When our reputation, interests and feelings are provoked, we feel "bitter." That is the moment that "Cultivating one's heart is most excruciating." ("Tempering One's Mind and Heart", Hong Yin), and meanwhile a test of our mind capacity to see whether we follow Master's teaching to use "tolerance, an extremely immense tolerance" ("Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in Philadelphia, U.S.A".) to deal with fellow practitioners and the conflicts encountered.
Recently I read again, "Practicing Cultivation After Retirement". Master said, "What will you cultivate without any troubles? How can you improve yourself?" (Essentials for Further Advancement) My heart was again shaken by Master's words. Conflict may not be a bad thing, it all depends on what state of mind we use to deal with it and how we cultivate in the midst of a conflict.
In our cultivation, especially in the current Fa-rectification cultivation, we should be rational, clearheaded and serious in dealing with problems we encounter. "It is not like that, as it is something beyond the level of everyday people. You will thus be expected to follow supernormal principles. What's required of you, then? You must cultivate your inner self and not pursue things externally." (Zhuan Falun, Lecture One). If we search inward while facing the conflicts among practitioners, we will find our attachments, where we fall short, the gap between us and fellow practitioners, and the words and actions deep in our minds that do not conform to Dafa. In this way we fundamentally oppose the old forces' arrangements, eliminate interference and sabotage from the deeply hidden old forces, and rectify everything that is not righteous. Searching inward when encountering conflicts and cultivate oneself in the midst of conflicts are the fundamental differences between practitioners and everyday people, and also a powerful way of eliminating the evil.

We must pay attention to the issue of safety when clarifying the truth. This keeps us from being persecuted and it allows us to do long-term truth clarification. Many practitioners currently don't pay enough attention to safety. Some practitioners were careful at first, but they gradually became less guarded as time elapsed and nothing happened, or they think that as long as they have strong righteous thoughts, safety is not important. Why are many practitioners overlooking safety? Through discussions with other practitioners, I find there are three major causes:
The first cause is laziness. It takes more time and energy to ensure safety. When we are lazy, we don't want to do certain safety work. For example, writing fellow practitioners' contact information in phonebooks instead of remembering them, because we don't want to take the time to remember; using a fixed home IP address to get online instead of using a mobile IP addresses, because we don't want to go through the hassle to get an extra line. These things may be looked upon as convenient, and may improve efficiency, but in fact it shows the demon nature of status quo and inertia.
The second cause is that some people want to eliminate so-called "fear," and think they are admitting fear if they take safety seriously. Let's put aside the discussion of whether one really eliminates fear by not being careful--the fact is that doing Dafa work well is more important than showing you don't have fear! Only when we ensure safety can we do long-term Dafa work smoothly, and save more people. Don't regard proving your fearlessness as the top priority. If we don't pay attention to safety, the evil takes advantage of our other omissions and can still persecute us; besides, not taking safety seriously itself is an omission; this is not being responsible to Dafa, to other practitioners, and to people who are waiting to be saved. This mentality can be easily taken advantage of by agents from the Jiang regime. When they plot our capture, they can use the excuse of "getting rid of fear" to loosen our vigilance.
The third cause is that some practitioners think that studying the Fa well, sending forth righteous thoughts, staying steadfast, being fearless, and eliminating attachments are the best safety measures, so they don't pay attention to safety in the ordinary sense. On the surface, this thinking isn't wrong, but we are still practitioners who haven't reached enlightenment. Even if you think you have powerful righteous thoughts and have gotten rid of all attachments, that's only your feeling. Who can guarantee that you don't have any deeply hidden attachments that you are unaware of? As long as you haven't reached Consummation, you can't guarantee that you have no omission. If you don't pay attention to safety, when danger arises, the old forces may use your deeply hidden attachments to persecute you. Even if you broke free later with righteous thoughts, you would have already caused irreversible loss to Dafa, other practitioners, and yourself. We should therefore not take a risk and place ourselves in a dangerous situation. We must be responsible not only to ourselves, but more importantly to Dafa and other practitioners. We must pay attention to safety in this world while we study the Fa well and keep strong righteous thoughts.
Fellow practitioners: let us look inward and see if we have any of the above mentalities. Validating Dafa is very serious. The evil grows more frenzied the closer it gets closer to destruction. By taking safety seriously we can smoothly and effectively validate Dafa. Fellow practitioners, please point out anything inappropriate.

I had taken countless exams in my life and still clearly remember the situations. When an exam was nearing its end, the supervising teacher would say, "There are only 5 minutes remaining, please check your answers and prepare to hand in your answer sheet." At this moment, there were all kinds of reactions from the students. Some students became anxious; some students' goal was just to pass the exam so they did not worry about the problems that they could not solve; some students became nervous and did not know which problem to concentrate on; some students already finished answering all the questions, so they got up, turned in the sheet and left the room; and of course, there were students who had already finished all the answers, but still quietly checked their answers and made full use of each remaining minute.
In a recent lecture, Master mentioned that time was short. What kind of attitude are we going to take? I feel that no matter how we have done on our answers, we should carefully examine ourselves in the final moments and repeatedly look inward. Being steadfast, sticking to and cultivating diligently to the end - shouldn't these be the basic qualities that an enlightened being should have? And yet, cultivation during this Fa-rectification period is totally different from ordinary people's exams. It is much more difficult than any matters of everyday people. On the one hand, the evil is getting more and more vicious in their final struggle, but on the other hand, our cultivation is getting closer and closer to the surface layer. At the same time, our surface layer is the worst part, and the low-level spirits, karma, notions, and even lust, which have been mentioned repeatedly in recent times, are accumulated in our surface layer, which encounters huge interference.
Speaking for myself, some things that I had no trouble dealing with in the past are now more difficult to deal with. I have repeatedly delayed going out to distribute truth-clarification materials. In the past, if I did not do any exercises one day, I would treat it as a big thing that was not tolerable. Recently I became less strict with myself, especially with the fifth exercise, "Strengthening Divine Powers." I often failed to do it. Now I realize this is due to interference from the evil. They are afraid of me clarifying the truth, afraid of me sending forth righteous thoughts, and afraid of me doing this exercise.
I am also a person who wrote a "Solemn Statement" on Clearwisdom.net. Here I want remind all the practitioners who have written a "Solemn Statement" that a divine being follows through on what he or she says.
What does it mean to talk about "catching up with redoubled effort?" If it is the same as before, or worse than before, how can we call it "redoubled effort?" If we do not double our effort, how can we talk about "catching up?"
Although the last 5 minutes of an exam are not long, those few minutes can better test a person. This is because the remaining problems are the hard ones that we cannot solve; moreover, fatigue will test our remaining strength.
Master has said, "Since you are cultivators, even though it's hard you should do even better." ("Teaching the Fa at the 2001 Canada Fa Conference" from Guiding the Voyage) This is a request for us; it is also a huge strengthening of our energy.
The purpose of this article is to encourage those practitioners who are not very diligent in cultivation. This is my personal understanding. Please point out any mistakes.

I often clarified the truth about Dafa to a bus driver on my local route. Gradually, he realized the truth. One time I gave him a copy of some truth-clarifying material entitled "People who understand and support the truth will have good fortune." He told me excitedly, "Look at the whole busload of passengers! I was always worried about not having enough business and passengers, but now I always exceed my load. I really have received good fortune."
One day when I rode his bus, I saw many vegetable vendors along the road, so I tossed some flyers towards them. While the bus driver sped up to leave, I looked back and saw them picking up the flyers. Since then, he always slows down the bus for me so I can spread the materials and then speeds up when I'm done. He often kindly reminds me to be careful.

During the past few days, the East China area has experienced a continuous rainstorm, resulting in the largest flood in the past 12 years. Anhui is the province that is the most seriously affected by the storm. Yesterday, the rainstorm caused parts of the local dike to collapse. The China National Flood and Drought Prevention General Headquarters issued a warning on July 8, 2003 that the Huai River basin will have continuous rain for three days and it is possible that flooding will increase. According to China Irrigation Minister Wang Shucheng, more than thirty thousand reservoirs across the country have water quality problems, which make the flood prevention even more serious.
According to the Sun Newspaper, at 6 p.m. on July 8, 2003, the sky above the Chu River basin suddenly erupted with lightning, thunder, and rain, while the water level in the Chu River rose dramatically. A section of dike 67 meters long (220 ft.) in Danzi Town of Anhui province collapsed. The related department has begun to work on the emergency.
If the Chu River dike collapses, it will endanger more than one million people's lives and disrupt the Beijing-Shanghai railway line, which is a few hundred meters away. The resulting flood would also threaten the safety of Nanjing city, which is 50 kilometers (31 miles) away.
China's official media, the Xinhua News Agency, said 13 people have died and the lives of 1 million people have been disrupted due to the flooding in East China. Three provinces along the Huai River CAnhui, Jiangsu, and Henan Chave been most heavily affected. Approximately 380,000 people live in the flooded valley area of the Huai River. In addition, the rising flood has cut off 1.15 million people from the outside world. The related departments have started to open the sluice gate to lower the flood levels.
An official of the Anhui provincial government told the Agence France Presse, "From the amount of rainfall and the water level of the flood, this is the largest flood of the Huai River since 1991."
According to the BBC, Jiangsu province, which is close to Anhui, the capital city of Nanjing, had a rainfall of 195 mm. (7.7 inches), the largest rainfall in the past 72 years. The streets of Nanjing are flooded, many buses and cars have been flooded, and residents have had to walk in the water. Many affected residents are currently living in temporary housing located in schools and factories.
According to the China Central Meteorological Observatory forecast, the Huai River basin and Han River will be continuously subjected to rainstorms in the coming two days; the area affected will include Anhui, Jiangsu, Hunan, and Guizhou provinces.
