Changlinzi Labor Camp in Harbin City has detained male practitioners from seven areas and twelve districts in Harbin city since March of 2000. Various means of brutal torture have taken place there. The persecution there has been especially escalated since mid-September 2002, when Jiang issued a secret order before the Sixteenth Party's Congress.

The director of the fifth team (the forced-brainwashing team), Zhao Shuang, ruthlessly tortures practitioners. He has been nicknamed "Slapper Zhao" because he often beats up practitioners. He incites inmates and police to torture practitioners with unspeakable methods. The following are the methods he uses:

All practitioners who refuse to give up their belief suffer this torture. Several inmates forcefully push the practitioner face down onto the ground with his arms behind his back. With one inmate stepping on his head and neck and another sitting on his lower body, they push the practitioner's arms up and forward. Another two inmates would grasp both of the practitioners legs and forcefully push them both upwards and outwards simultaneously. Practitioners usually become crippled after this torture. Some are unable to walk for a long time.

They shock practitioners on the parts of their body with soft tissue and sensitive parts with 10000 volt electric batons. Sometimes they use three of them simultaneously to shock practitioners on their armpits, mouths, and private parts. Practitioner Wen Zhenguo's mouth was swollen as a result of this torture.

They leave practitioners hanging up in the shape of cross for a long time. Practitioner Huang Tiecheng has suffered this torture.

Zhao Shuang burns practitioners with cigarettes. One time he tortured nineteen-year-old practitioner Yang Xueqiu with a cigarette until his mouth was severely burned.

They handcuff both of the practitioner's hands and ankles and hang them up. Police then push them so that the practitioner's body swings back and forth while the handcuffs cut into the flesh. Many practitioners have suffered this very cruel torture.

They stab nails into practitioners' fingernails. Practitioner Xu Zhenfeng has suffered this torture.

Practitioners are pushed down to the ground and have their shirt ripped off. They then scrub practitioners under their rib cages with wooden sticks until they become black and blue. They become very swollen and painful.

During the coldest times in winter, they rip the clothes off practitioners and pour cold water on them and then force them to stand near an open window. Practitioner Zhang Xiangfu has suffered this torture.

Practitioners were tied to an iron chair for several days without being released. They not only suffer from swollen legs and feet but also are not allowed to use the toilet. Practitioner Wei Yunge was forced to have a bowel movement on the chair and was not released until it became dry. Several days later when he was finally released from the iron chair, the feces had become so dry that he had difficulty scrubbing it off.

They strike practitioners with a 3-foot stool. The stool is covered with bloodstains. They broke eight such stools. Many practitioners have experienced this.

Practitioners were forced to squat from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. They will be subjected to other tortures if they still refuse to give up Falun Gong.

They pour cold water on practitioners in fall and winter. They pour water on them again as soon as their clothes begin to dry. Sometimes they even soak their coat and pants and try to force them to denounce Falun Gong.

They grip practitioners' testicles. It is truly despicable. Zhao Shuang tortures many practitioners, including Zang Dianyong, this way. Zang Dianyong still suffers from pain more than a year later

The fifth team is a team where they mix practitioners and other inmates. Under Zhao Shuang's order of "torturing them to death if they refuse to transform," every inmate can beat up and insult practitioners. The items that are sent to practitioners by their families are confiscated.

Yang Yu, who used to be the former Assistant Director of the Office of Education, was promoted to the director of the fourth team because he brutally tortured practitioners. Along with police officer Hao Wei, they insult and body search practitioners at will. They even took away the 30 Yuan Wang Yunguang had when he was released. During the time when SARS was rampant, practitioners were forced to work from 3:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. In addition, they were assigned more work than they were able to complete. They have to work overtime if they are unable to get it done on time. If they still could not finish it, they would get beaten up.

All families visiting practitioners are allowed to see them only after the family members sign their names on a sheet that denounces Falun Gong. They also deny any medical treatment outside of prison even if practitioners have severe health problems. During the last year, at least five practitioners have been tortured to death, including Zhou Jingsen, a professor at Harbin Management University. Many other practitioners were handicapped as a result of torture.

The above is just the tip of the iceberg. The actual torture is far more severe than this.

(Clearwisdom.net) In June 2001, the 4^th Team in the Fuyu Labor Camp illegally detained 80 Falun Gong practitioners. The labor camp forced practitioners to watch videos containing deceptive propaganda, attempting to break the practitioners' will. At the same time, they also ordered collaborators (former practitioners who have renounced Falun Gong under pressure) to interfere with practitioners, and they pressured practitioners' families saying "no transformation, no bail" (meaning if practitioners do not give up Falun Gong, there is no way for them to get released).

On June 18^th, 19 practitioners launched an appeal, emphasizing that Falun Dafa is a righteous way, that cultivating Falun Dafa is no crime, and announcing that the labor camp should release all detained practitioners immediately.

During the morning of June 19^th, the police set up plastic chairs along the floor and forced practitioners to come down from their beds and squat on them as a form of torture, but no one complied. Team leader Jia Weijun shouted orders to the criminals saying, "Beat them up for me if they don't come down. I'll handle it if anything goes wrong." The criminals then dragged the Dafa practitioners and even beat up a practitioner who was over 60 years of age, but not one practitioner cooperated with them. At noon, many practitioners went on hunger strike to appeal against their violent treatment. The police interrogated them overnight, but the practitioners solemnly pointed out that the criminals are committing a crime when they beat up practitioners. So the labor camp "admitted" that it was wrong to beat practitioners up and they announced that all criminals who beat Dafa practitioners will have their sentences extended for 3 months. Yet within 3 months, the criminals who beat Dafa practitioners up were all released.

On the 20^th, the police sent practitioners Zhang Xiaochun and Wang Baoxian to the detention center followed later by Pan Benyu. The Fuyun Labor Camp has detained 4 practitioners from Qiqihar City for extended periods of time. In June 2002, Wang Baoxian was tortured to death by severely damaging his internal. Pan Benyu is still in custody.

Later, team leader Jia Weijun said during a meeting, "You guys make trouble (He calls practitioner's legal appeals as making trouble). I will make up evidence to report to the higher ups. I would say that I am fulfilling Jiang's order to crack down on you financially." As a result, Dafa practitioners who were detained in Fuyu Labor Camp were arbitrarily persecuted for their legal appeals, and two out of the four who were sent to detention centers have been tortured to death.

(Clearwisdom.net) Over the past few years, the Electric Pump Company at Daqing Petroleum Management Bureau has systematically persecuted those employees who are Falun Dafa practitioners. Led by Party assistant secretary Li Xiusi, they put into action Jiang's policy of ruining Falun Gong practitioners' reputation, cutting them off financially, and destroying their physical bodies, and thus brought about many tragedies.

They organized brainwashing classes at their training center, where they attempted to brainwash Dafa practitioners by force. They abducted determined practitioners to the employee dormitory, and forbade them from going home. They also withheld Falun Dafa practitioners' salaries, bonuses and other forms of income; they implicated Falun practitioners' families (such as pressuring the spouses to persuade Dafa practitioners to quit practicing, and asking the children to kneel down and beg their parents to give up Falun Dafa). They also partnered up with the police and illegally arrested, brainwashed, psychologically abused, and physically tortured Dafa practitioners, and even sent Dafa practitioners to forced labor camps and prisons.

Mr. Dai Zhidong, 41 years old, was an employee of the Electric Pump Company's training center at Daqing Petroleum Management Bureau, Heilongjiang Province. He resides at Dongfeng Village, apartment number 2-27-2-501, Daqing City. Because he practices Falun Gong, he was forced to retire early in November 2000. In December 2000, he was supposed to be given about 70,000 Yuan [Chinese currency] for his early retirement, yet his employer illegally withheld the money.

In December 1999, the chair of the Electric Pump Company's Communist Party Office, Ma Zhifeng and the Training School Principal, Wan Lihua forced Mr. Dai Zhidong to submit three thousand Yuan as a means to prevent him from going to Beijing. Moreover, they also illegally stalked him.

On April 11^th, 2000, Mr. Dai Zhidong was tricked and taken to the police station by Daqing Qingdong police station officer Yong Bing. On the same night, he was sent to the Saqu custodial station of Daqing City and unlawfully detained there for 34 days. He was then transferred to the Saqu detention center and detained there for 11 days. After he returned to his work unit, his employer monitored him, and his personal freedom was limited.

On June 18^th, 2000, Mr. Dai Zhidong went together with his wife and child to Beijing to appeal. Just before they arrived in Beijing, they were arrested on the train by the train policemen, Wu Jing and others. Later, he was detained in the Shinjingshan Hostel by the Daqing Petroleum Management Bureau's Beijing Liaison office. On June 21^st, 2000, Mr. Dai was sent back by his employer and detained at the Daqing City's Saqu Police Station for 75 days. The police station and the detention center forced his family to pay 500 Yuan for his food; Shi Shijing from the Beijing Liaison Office of the Daqing Petroleum Management Bureau and Wan Lihua from the Electric Pump Company took 4000 Yuan from his family. After Dai Zhidong returned to work, he was demoted to a one-year probation, and he was monitored every day at work. He was only given 100 Yuan per month for living expenses [the current average urban worker's salary is 500 Yuan/month in China].

On January 2^nd, 2001, at the time Dai Zhidong was homeless, he was together with several other Dafa practitioners in Harbin, when he was captured by Taipingqu policemen. He spent 18 days at the Taipingqui station. He was then taken back by Daqing Qingdong Police and his former employer. They cuffed his hands behind his back and interrogated him for more than 7 hours. Later, he managed to escape from detention. During the time when he was homeless, the Harbin police extorted 2000 Yuan from him, and took a cell phone and driver license from him. They also extorted 300 Yuan from him as the expenses for his food during detention.

On April 19^th, 2002, Dai Zhidong went to Dafa practitioner Mr. Yao Bing's home, and he was arrested by the policemen there (Yao Bing was captured on April 18^th). After some brutal torture, he was send to Daqing City Saqu station. In order to protest the torture, he went on a hunger strike for more than 2 months, and was finally sent to the hospital when he was in critical condition. However, because his family doesn't have money, and his employer refused to help, the policemen didn't have him treated, and he was sent back to Saqu station and the torture continued.

In the end of September 2002, when Daqing City's Honggangqu court secretly sentenced Da Zhidong, they didn't even contact his family, nor did they follow any due legal process. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison. He is now in the Daqing prison, where the prison authorities have started torturing him again.

Ms. Song Liqing was previously a senior employee in the company finance department. Because she practices Falun Gong and wants to be a good person, her employers freely withheld her salary and bonus, illegally confined her to the dormitory and would not allow her to go home. She was then forced to retire. Many times, her employer collaborated with policemen and sent her to Harbin drug rehabilitation center, which has been used to persecute Dafa practitioners. In early September 2002, the rehabilitation center contacted her employers and told them that because Ms. Song went on a hunger strike to protest her illegal detention, she was in critical condition, and they asked the employer to take her back right away. The head of the "610 office" [An agency specifically created to persecuteáFalun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems] at her work unit, Li Xiusi said, "Leave her in there, as the national holiday is coming soon. Don't let her go out to make any troubles. Furthermore, the sixteenth National Congress is starting soon. We'll talk about her situation after the meeting, and it gives me some peace of mind when she is in there."

Ms. Xing Jingzhi, the previous human resources manager, was forced to retire because she believes in Falun Gong's "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance". Under the employer's manipulation, she was illegally arrested, detained and sent to a labor camp, and penalized with fines, etc. several times. Furthermore, her child was implicated and her child's college education and job search were negatively affected.

Mr. Jia Shenghui, previously a support group worker, was forced to retire early because he practices Falun Gong. At the end of September 2002, Daqing City's Honggangqu court secretly sentenced him. They didn't even contact his family about the sentence, nor did they follow any legal processes. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison. Right now Jia Shenghui is at Daqing prison. When they sent him to the prison, he was not even told how long he was sentenced for.

Mr. Wang Hui, a worker at the company's third branch factory, was arrested in early September 2003, simply because he refused to give up his beliefs in "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance". He was sentenced to three years of forced labor. Currently, he is detained at Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Center.

Moreover, Ms. Sun Chengrong, Ms. Du Zhenhua, Ms. Sun Huiling and other Dafa practitioners were all arrested, detained, forced to attend brainwashing classes, penalized by having both salaries and bonuses withheld, and sent to labor camps because they refused to renounce their beliefs in Falun Dafa.

(Clearwisdom.net) Dafa practitioner Gao Chunlian lives in Dashakan Village, Zhuozhou City, Heibei Province. She was illegally detained in Zhuozhou Detention Center in Heibei Province in May 2001 and she began a hunger strike to protest her illegal detention. To force-feed her, the police inserted very wide rubber tubes into her nostrils. They purposely inserted a tube that was too long and then pulled it back out, causing severe bleeding. Other inmates who witnessed the scene were too scared to cry.

In July 2001, she was illegally transferred to the Baoding Forced Labor Camp in Heibei Province. In order to force her to give up her beliefs, the police did not allow her to sleep for up to five days. They also forced her to stand upright for a long time and to squat while clasping her legs. On July 25, 2002, the police beat and abused her, and handcuffed her to a metal chair for three days because she refused to watch a video slandering Dafa. On August 12, the police shocked her with electric batons because she would not cooperate with the police and accept this kind of abuse. The police also beat her together with several criminal inmates. They grabbed her hair and slammed her head against a wall more than 40 times, slapping her, and beating her on the mouth and lower jaw with their fists. Four people took turns kicking her legs and the police kicked her abdomen ruthlessly. In the end, her face and head were beaten so badly and were swollen to such an extent that she could no longer even lie down. Her nose was bleeding and her mouth festering, which prevented her from being able to eat; there was hair and blood all over the floor making the room unfit for habitation. Her left leg had been crippled and she was not able to walk. Even under those conditions, the police still did not allow her to sleep, but ordered her to do labor by cleaning the lead boards. She inhaled large amounts of dangerous lead toxin every day and had to carry very heavy metal frames. She was not allowed to eat until 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

After the her term of forced labor came to an end, the local office did not let her go back home, but instead forced her to go to the Zhuozhou brainwashing class. In order to protest this inhuman treatment, she went on a hunger strike. The vicious persons tortured her again by brutally beating, force-feeding and handcuffing her arms to the bed every night. After more than a month of this torture, she vomited continually. It was not until she was at the brink of death that her tormentors notified her family to take her to the hospital. When they heard about such cruel and inhuman persecution, the local citizens were all very indignant.

Nanma Metal Hospital is adjacent to the "Baoding City Law Education Camp". The dean and some medical personnel helped the sadistic tormentors and assisted in the immoral persecution of Dafa practitioners.

(Clearwisdom.net) On the morning of Oct 23, 2003, the "610 office"* and the Erdao Police Station in Fengman district, Jilin City sent more than ten people in two cars to the home of Dafa practitioner Liu Xiuli to bring her to the police station.

Liu Xiuli refused to get in the car and struggled with police officers Li Jianping, Xu Zhefeng, deputy station head Zhang, and the head of local "610 office" Wang Zhongyu. They overpowered her and forcefully threw her into a car, without her shoes and coat. They also beat her sixteen-year-old daughter, Yang Guang.

They used the same measures a year earlier to take away Liu's husband, Yang Wenjun, who is still illegally detained in a forced labor camp today.

Note: On Oct. 1, 2000, Liu Xiuli went to Beijing to appeal to the government for Falun Dafa and safely returned home. Her appeal in Beijing was reported and she was sentenced illegally to three years of hard labor. On August 22, 2003, she was released from Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp in Changchun, Jilin Province. She was abducted again after being released for only two months.

(Clearwisdom.Net) Recently I read "The Relationship between Sickness Karma and Attachments" and was deeply inspired from this article. The writer of the article talked about the attachment of having fun, which she never realized herself. Compared with this practitioner, I also have a very strong attachment to having fun during cultivation. Sometimes I almost got trapped and could not realize it myself. The first time I realized it was during an illegal detention in 1999.

It was at the end of 1999. I was illegally detained for 15 days when I appealed for Falun Gong in Beijing. The first several days I was calm. Later, I felt irritated. Staying in a room the size of a few square meters, I felt oppressed. Sometimes, I felt lonely. Time passed very slowly. I anxiously expected to be released and recalled how my family, friends and I went on vacation and shopping. I longed to experience those times again. I figured I ought to have great fun after I was released. When this attachment came up, I felt more and more anxious and then other attachments came up too. Eventually I didn't pass the test under pressure.

After I came back I had a lot of regret and told another practitioner about this experience. The practitioner was quiet at first and then told me a story from the book "Journey to the West." The story says that Monk Tang went to the west to find a Buddhist scripture with his disciples. They passed a town that was having the flower lamp festival of January 15^th on the lunar calendar. There was a big crowd, so Monk Tang went to see the lamps. As a consequence Monk Tang was captured by a devil. When his first disciple Sun Wukong found the devil, the devil said, "This disaster is caused by your Master's attachment to having fun." Monk Tang is a cultivator, and should put cultivation in the first place. How could he wish to have some human's fun and see those flower lamps? This is just a requirement for the cultivators of the past. We are Fa-rectification period Dafa disciples, and the standard set for us is even more strict. Our omissions, stemming from our own minds from cultivation among everyday people will show at crucial moments, especially under pressure. If we cannot handle this well, we'll bring losses to Dafa and to ourselves. Cultivation is very serious. We can never compromise for any human attachment. This practitioner's words woke me up. My attachment to having fun during cultivation is so strong that it has become natural to me. I could not even see it.

I remember when I was with this practitioner that I could not continue studying the Fa after two hours. I needed to either eat something or take a walk, or rest. That practitioner always sat straight up and studied for a long time. It only took this practitioner an afternoon to completely read Teacher's "Lecture at the Conference in Switzerland."

When I carefully recalled my cultivation experiences and examined myself, I surprisingly found that not only did I have a strong attachment to having fun during personal cultivation, but I brought it into Fa-rectification cultivation. Around April 25^th, 1999, when I heard what had happened in Tianjin, I had the righteous thought to "protect Dafa" and soon afterwards I thought I could also vacation while in Beijng. "Appealing in Beijing" was for Dafa on the one hand, while on the other hand it was for my own attachment of having fun, instead of assisting Teacher with a pure mind.

I enlightened that the attachment of having fun comes from the pursuit of comfort. Both are selfish attachments, both try to satisfy ourselves and comfort ourselves, and that has caused us to not be able to bear hardships and loneliness.

In the beginning of 2003, I made a business trip to Shanghai and was illegally detained for twenty-eight days by the local police. During that period of time I was subjected to unconscionable interrogation and forced brainwashing. I realize now what this entire ordeal means to me. It means the same thing to me that it means to all of my fellow practitioners. It means I must use my personal experience as a direct victim of the persecution to reveal the evil nature of those who are persecuting Dafa and clarify the truth about Falun Dafa to sentient beings. It also means that I must walk my road of cultivation more cautiously.

What did those twenty-eight days of unjust treatment do to me? In front of a cultivator, those policemen were nothing but a bunch of clowns, even when they tried to threaten, intimate, belittle, curse, and torture me physically. These Chinese policemen committed those violent acts against me simply because I am a Falun Dafa practitioner. Before another Dafa practitioner, Lin XiaoKai, was released back to Taiwan, his wife, Chen ShuYia, told me something at a cultivation experience-sharing gathering and pointed out my attachment. I came to see that the persecution I was subjected to in society makes me a victim of the persecution. Since I was subjected to the persecution because I practice Falun Gong, I must let the general public become aware of the truth about the persecution against Falun Gong so that they will form a correct attitude towards the persecution. It goes without saying that during the process of exposing the evil persecution, I will describe my first-hand experiences as a persecution victim objectively and truthfully because I cultivate Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance.

In hindsight, I didn't have a clear understanding of my role in the Fa-rectification after I was released back to Taiwan. As a result, at work I behaved like nothing had happened to me. My colleagues then decided, "It looks like they didn't treat you badly in China. We were worried at first that it might take some time for you to recover from the physical and mental injuries." Actually the only thing on my mind at the time was: "I must not create any loophole for Dafa. I must not create a negative image for Dafa." On the other hand, if a Dafa practitioner fails to help sentient beings see through the persecution against Falun Dafa, he or she cannot possibly help much in offering the sentient beings salvation.

When my fellow practitioners in Taiwan mentioned my story occasionally, they all shared a similar impression that it was not a big tribulation and it was not worth discussing. One time fellow practitioners from a TV team came to interview me for a story. Watching my expressionless face during the interview, they commented, "It looks as if you gladly accepted the persecution!"

I remained in this kind of state from February until recently, when a fellow practitioner shed some light on this issue. She said, "We are now in the Fa-rectification period, not in the personal cultivation period. As Fa-rectification period Dafa practitioners, it is our mission to reveal the truth about the persecution against Falun Dafa and to offer sentient beings salvation." Her words suddenly woke me up. Indeed! We should see this story from the perspective of offering sentient beings salvation. We should wisely think of better ways to clarify the truth about Falun Dafa and reveal the evil persecution. Offering sentient beings salvation should be what truly matters. Imagine what it feels like to be a kind citizen who grew up in a democratic, free environment, and traveling to China and being abducted by the Chinese police, completely isolated, helpless, and subjected to physical and spiritual torments?

Teacher said, "Validate the Fa with rationality, clarify the truth with wisdom, spread the Fa and save people with mercy." (From "Rationality.") I now understand more clearly that, as a Falun Dafa practitioner, our foundation should be to use wisdom to help sentient beings by destroying their illusions, instead of revealing our supernormal cultivation state in front of them.

The police once dragged me into a police station while I was clarifying the truth about Falun Dafa. At first the police chatted with me, trying to coax the information they desired out of me. I immediately saw through their scheme, and handled their questions carefully and calmly. When they realized they couldn't retrieve any information out of me using this approach, they handcuffed me to a metal chair with my hands behind my back. Then they started to curse me, and grabbed my hair while punching my chin from below. My teeth chattered loudly from the impact of their repeated punches. I kept sending forth righteous thoughts, imploring Teacher for protection to overcome this demonic trial. Next a policeman raised his arm and kept slapping me violently on the face. Despite the loud noise from his slapping, I did not feel any pain. Instead I felt a gentle breeze. The policeman, on the other hand, felt too painful from the impact to continue the slapping. Instead he grabbed a table wipe, bent it in half, and started to flog my face with it continuously and curse me at the same time. My face did not flush or swell. Normally this type of torture would have distorted one's face. I knew right away that our compassionate, magnificent Teacher had endured the torture for me.

Since I refused to give them any information, the police decided to escalate the torture. They put a plastic bag over my head and sealed it tightly to suffocate me. When there was no air left, the plastic bag clung tightly to my nose and lips, and my eyes began to bulge. My main consciousness, nevertheless, remained sharp and clear. I looked directly at the policemen from behind the plastic bag, sending forth my righteous thoughts to eliminate the evil that was manipulating them to persecute Dafa practitioners. After I lost consciousness, the policemen removed the plastic bag and splashed cool water over my face. When I came to, I breathed in and out hungrily for air. Then they repeated the suffocating torture. Still I refused to give them any information.

Then the policemen decided to employ a new type of torture. They brought a bottle of mustard oil and started to pour it into my nostrils. Some of the mustard oil went into my esophagus, and some flushed out and moistened my chest. When the policemen noticed that some of the mustard oil was wasted, they became frustrated with anger. As they continued to pour mustard oil into my nose, a policeman used one of his hands to keep my chin raised while the other hand jammed my nose with a dirty rag to prevent me from flushing mustard oil out with my breath. During this ordeal my mind was never once filled with anger. I felt nothing but pity for them. I pitied them because they were ruining themselves with their ignorance. Meanwhile, I was determined that I would walk through the road of cultivation that Teacher had arranged for me as long as I was alive and breathing. Next, a miracle happened. My tongue tasted the mustard oil, but it did not taste spicy at all. To my surprise it tasted refreshingly sweet. I felt very distinctly the mustard oil traveling down the esophagus and into my stomach. I could feel the distinct flow of mustard oil. The policemen were puzzled to find no nasal mucus and tears, or any sign that I was stifled by the mustard oil. When a Dafa practitioner is filled with strong righteous thoughts and the Fa, she is bound to experience what Teacher described in Zhuan Falun as "After passing the shady willow trees, there will be bright flowers and another village ahead!"

The policemen kept me handcuffed to the metal chair continuously for several days and nights, denying me sleep, food, water, and the use of a toilet. They continued to batter me, curse me, and torture me with many other methods, but they completely failed to shake my steadfast faith in Teacher and Falun Dafa. I never stopped telling the policemen about Falun Dafa [with any chance I got], and teaching them to cultivate kindness. During the demonic interrogation, I experienced many supernatural states that no words could describe. I could only describe these unusual experiences with Teacher's words: "Its broad and immense, profound inner meaning can only manifest itself to, and be experienced and understood by, practitioners who are at different levels of true cultivation. Only then can one truly see what the Fa is." (From "Broad and Immense" in Essentials for Further Advancement.) Under the protection of our compassionate, magnificent Teacher, the policemen failed their demonic interrogation.

At the detention center, Dafa practitioners in our cell were subjected to severe abuse at first. The guards cursed us all day long, and beat up everyone they didn't like at will. In fact, the battering caused one of the Dafa practitioners in our cell to have blood in her urine. "White Dragons" often cracked from their intensive usage. (Note: "White Dragon" is a fancy name the guards gave to a type of torture tool. It is a white hard rubber tube used to batter Dafa practitioners. A person battered with a hard rubber tube will not show signs of abuse on the skin, even when the tissues under the skin have become severely damaged.) In addition, the guards ordered the inmates to watch Dafa practitioners' every move. If a Dafa practitioner was caught sitting in the double lotus position or with one hand held vertically in front of the chest, the entire cell of inmates would be denied time for fresh air in the courtyard. Consequently, all the inmates in our cell watched us like a hawk.

We disciplined ourselves according to what Falun Dafa required of us. We tried to rectify our environment and touch the inmates' hearts with our sincerity and kindness. When it came to forced labor, Dafa practitioners volunteered to do the dirty work that required wiping the toilet bowls clean, and left the inmates with less filthy work, such as dishwashing, and bed cleaning. When a convicted murderer was chained to the bed [and could not move about freely], we would bring her a basin of water so she could wash her face, or we would bring the toilet bucket to her when she needed to use it. In addition, we clarified the truth to the inmates every chance we got. We told them that Falun Dafa is good; we explained the truth about the persecution against Falun Gong; we explained the truth behind the staged self-immolation at the Tiananmen Square, the truth about the trip to the National Appeal Bureau on April 25, 1999, and the truth of many fraudulent lies pertaining to Falun Gong; we explained that those who treat Dafa practitioners with kindness will be rewarded immensely and those who persecute Dafa practitioners will eventually meet with tribulation; we explained that Falun Dafa can save sentient beings.

We also tried to promote Falun Dafa to each inmate in our cell using different approaches from scientific and medical facts, fables and historic stories, etc. The inmates gradually realized that we Dafa practitioners were not at all like what television had portrayed. Eventually the inmates began to improve their conscience, while our righteous thoughts and righteous actions began to improve our cell. The former head of our cell, who had been persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners and spoke of our Teacher with disrespect, was given a sentence and transferred elsewhere. Another inmate, who had a positive perception of Falun Dafa and had been kind to Dafa practitioners, was elected as the new head of our cell. One night the new head of our cell had a dream that someone told her, "Try your best to write an article that praises Falun Dafa, and you will be released from prison." After she shared this unusual dream to the entire cell, all the Falun Dafa practitioners encouraged her to write a letter to her manager at her former workplace, sharing her personal story where Falun Dafa had shed a new light on her personal problem. She wrote in one of the passages in the letter, "When I was wronged and thrown into jail, I despaired and became cynical about this secular world. It was the noble deeds of Falun Dafa practitioners in my prison cell that embodied Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance that touched my heart and gave me a new hope in life." A Dafa practitioner that was released from this detention facility managed to take this letter to her old boss. Then a miracle happened. Three days later she was released from jail. All the inmates in our cell were shocked. After all, they witnessed with their own eyes that someone who treated Dafa practitioners with kindness was indeed rewarded immensely. The inmates in our cell mumbled, "Falun Dafa has truly shown its power to us!" Since then they have improved their attitude towards Dafa practitioners.

We selected another inmate who had a correct understanding of Falun Dafa to become our new head. She made it possible for us to study the Fa and send forth righteous thoughts in our cell. Sometimes she would even join us in memorizing and reciting the Fa. More and more inmates in our cell began to have a clearer main consciousness. Even a murderer started to form righteous thoughts and told us that she would most certainly study the Fa and practice Falun Gong if she could get out of jail alive. Because she had positioned herself correctly in her attitude towards Falun Dafa, she did not get a death sentence, but instead got a much lighter sentence. (After I was released from jail, I paid her family a visit. Her husband accepted the truth about Falun Dafa wholeheartedly.) There was another inmate that constantly called Falun Dafa practitioners names and bullied everyone in our cell. One day she was suddenly ill and overcome with pain. While she was in tears because of the pain, some of the inmates celebrated her tribulation. Everyone ignored her. Although she had bullied me as much as she had bullied other Dafa practitioners in our cell, I still treated her with compassion. I asked a guard for some hot water to warm her stomach and comforted her with kind words. For the following days I looked after her day and night, which finally touched her heart. I said to her, "It is my Teacher and Falun Dafa that has taught me to treat you like this. If you must thank someone, thank my compassionate Teacher and Falun Dafa." When she felt better, she expressed her wish to learn Falun Gong. I managed to avoid the surveillance camera and taught her to practice Falun Gong.

There are so many stories that had happened in our cell, I cannot tell each of them here. What had happened in our cell was exactly like what Teacher had said, "The Buddha-light illuminates everywhere and rectifies all abnormalities." (From "Energy Field" in Lecture Three of Zhuan Falun.) The profoundness and compassion of Falun Dafa is indeed saving all sentient beings. Dafa practitioners' speeches and actions of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance have validated the Fa in so many places and so many ways.

Although we continued to validate the Fa in the detention center and have successfully improved the environment, it was not our goal to improve the detention facility. Our goal as Dafa practitioners was to eliminate the evil and walk out of the detention facility. Teacher wrote in "Rationality", "Some students suggest that the best practice of cultivation is to get placed into a detention center or a labor camp, or get sentenced to jail in order to validate the Fa. Students, it is not so. Stepping forward to validate the Fa using many different approaches is a magnificent act, but this absolutely does not mean that you have to be arrested by the evil." Minghui editors said in an article on August 2000, "Prisons are evil places used by malicious forces to suppress Dafa and sabotage the cultivation practice of Dafa disciples. The police vans are not the Law boat, the prisons are not temples, the labor camps are not the environment for cultivation, and even less are these the necessary formalities that Dafa disciples should rely on to make progress." (From "The Purpose of Stepping Forward is to Validate Dafa.")

Thus we realized that we must send forth righteous thoughts to break through the restraints set by the evil old forces. We must not stay on the road the evil old forces had arranged, or stay in the detention centers or forced labor camps. We must return to the society in a righteous way and finish the profound wishes that we made before the history of mankind to help Teacher rectify the Fa and offer sentient beings salvation. Hence, we started to send forth righteous thoughts on every set hour every day to eliminate the evil old forces and to break through their arrangements. We were determined to walk only the road of cultivation that our Teacher had arranged for us. Neither my family nor I had written or signed anything that the scoundrel police had demanded, but I was released unconditionally several months later. My steadfast belief in Falun Dafa exemplified in my speech and actions had won the admiration as well as praises from the police at the detention center.

After I was released from jail, I resumed Fa-rectification work. I utilized the strengths of my living environment and continued to clarify the truth about Falun Dafa in an open, righteous way. Every time I saw a sentient being learning the truth about Falun Dafa and thus coming to his senses, I felt immensely gratified. I could have validated the Fa better in retrospect, so I shall take the Fa as Teacher and continue to improve myself in order to become a qualified guardian of the cosmos that has completely fulfilled what Teacher and Falun Dafa requires of me.

This concludes my humble understanding of the Fa at my current cultivation level. Please kindly correct anything erroneous.

Mudanjiang is a small town in Heilongjiang Province. On our Teacher's birthday after April 25, 1999, I went as usual to the Cultural Palace for morning practice. The palace was quiet and desolate. All the other people who usually came here to exercise or just hang out were absent. The situation felt strange. Fellow practitioners continued to arrive, and we exchanged our cultivation experiences on the spot, treasuring that moment. As the practice music started playing we stood up, lined up in careful rows, and started practicing. We felt immersed in the light of Dafa. We felt comfortable and happy. All the practitioners, whether 7 years old or 70 years old, had precise movements. We used the practice to celebrate our great Teacher's birthday and to celebrate the 7^th anniversary of Dafa spreading in the human world.

Banners that read "Falun Dafa" were all over the practice site. We placed Dafa flyers and Fa-promotion flyers for people to read. The scene was solemn and holy. Under the morning sun, there were only practitioners meditating, and we saw no one else. Later we learned that many police officers had blocked and surrounded the palace. Others who had wanted to come to exercise or hang out didn't dare. We laughed at this matter. We said that this day's practice had been great and serene. After practicing, we went about our business and no one bothered us.

(Clearwisdom.net) After a short discussion with a fellow practitioner who had been persecuted for a long time (from October, 1999 to the present,) in forced labor camps and brainwashing sessions and deprived of personal freedom all that time, I had a new understanding of "rejecting the old forces' arrangements."

In our own personal cultivation, if we want to upgrade ourselves, we will have to experience tribulations and tests. However, the criteria cannot be the same for cultivation during Fa Rectification. The beings in the old cosmos, no matter how high their levels, are not qualified to arrange anything in Fa Rectification, because they also need to be rectified. Whoever has made any arrangements has actually committed crimes. By rejecting their arrangements and not allowing them to carry out their arrangements, we are keeping them from committing crimes. Thus, rejecting the old forces' arrangements is actually giving sentient beings a positive future.

I realized that rejecting the old forces' arrangements is only a process: how to assist Teacher in saving people and helping people to enter the new future created by Teacher is the goal. We should tell people about the goodness of Dafa, help them to be rectified, and thus have a good future. That is the best we can do for them.

Before the old cosmos is dissolved, it naturally manifests its not-so-good or even evil side, which is also exactly why dissolution will occur. Our rejection of the old forces utilizes the goodness we have obtained from the Fa to help people to obtain goodness. In the forced labor camps, the police used the approach of having practitioners recite "Rules and Regulations," to persecute them. Many resolute practitioners refused to participate. The police would then beat them, electrically shock them, or torture them in other ways.

I told the police, "I am not a person who should undergo 'forced labor education.' I will not recite those rules."

The policeman said, "Why are you not? As long as you are in the forced labor camp, you are a person that should go through forced labor education."

I said, "If you take off your clothes and put them on me, can you say that I am a policeman?"

The policeman replied, "Of' course not."

I then said, "All right. We cannot look at the surface. Falun Gong practitioners are good people; they all have normal professions and contribute to society." I added, "A family has its rules and a nation has its laws. I am not against the rules and regulations, but the enforcement of those rules on us is neither reasonable nor legal."

The policeman asked, "Why is it illegal? We represent the law."

I said, "You see, what do the rules say? No fighting, no tattooing, no drinking, no gambling, no stealing ... We practice Falun Gong, and are even able to resist fighting back when being hit or sworn at. We don't smoke, drink or gamble, and we could even help people with all we have ... you compare it. If you force us to recite those rules, do you want us to become better, or do you want us to go backward?"

At that point, the policeman did not even look fierce. He seemed to become clear, and said gently, "You should not recite those things. You can go back."

The auditorium was sacredly decorated. In the background, Master's portrait was displayed, with two colorful Falun emblem banners hanging on either side. The stage was also decorated with flowers.

Ten practitioners presented their cultivation experiences, focusing on getting rid of attachments, breaking through everyday people's notions, treating and cooperating with fellow practitioners kindly and doing the three important things required by Master.

Many practitioners said that the speeches were both moving and encouraging. This conference helped practitioners to encourage one another to look inward and find one's merits and flaws, to strive forward together and to improve in clarifying the facts and saving sentient beings.

After the practitioners' speeches, some younger practitioners sang the songs "Follow Master to Rectify Fa", "On the Way Home", "Gratitude to Master" and "Coming for You".

The Conference ended with the song "Falun Dafa is Good," sung twice by all the practitioners.

During the conference, all practitioners sent forth righteous thoughts twice to clear out interference from the other dimensions.

After the conference, many practitioners talked with one another about what a practitioner should do under Master's grand mercy, and how to keep up with the progress of Fa-rectification.

One day before the Fa conference, practitioners held a parade and distributed leaflets in Paris. A symbolic trial of the criminal Jiang Zemin was conducted by practitioners in front of the Pompidou Centre to expose Jiang's crimes of torture, genocide and crimes against humanity.

The day after the conference, some practitioners went to the Chinese embassy and the Chinese consulate in Paris to send forth righteous thoughts.

Mr. Li Dianzhong is a former employee from the No.6 Oil Cotton Plant in Ningjing County, Shandong Province. He was tortured to death in July 2003 d at the Zhangqiu Forced Labor Camp.

I met Li Dianzhong once. He was in his thirties, about 170 cm tall. He looked a bit overweight, but there was always a smile on his face. Since July 20, 2003, when the evil forces started to persecute Falun Gong, I heard that he was dismissed from his position, and survived by collecting waste products. When someone wanted to sell Dafa books, he would buy them even at a very high price in order to save them. Whenever I think of this, I feel sad and deeply moved as well.

On October 25, 2003, the People's Court at the New & High Tech Developing Area of Shenyang City conducted an illegal trial of the six practitioners:

Zhou Guixiang, a 58-year old Falun Dafa practitioner who died in 1999, worked at the East Railway Office at Wafangdian City. She had suffered from incurable illnesses, and she recovered from them miraculously soon after she practiced Falun Dafa. On July 20, 1999, Jiang's Criminal Group launched its persecution of Falun Dafa. In order to validate Dafa and restore Teacher's reputation, she went to Beijing twice in July. On August 17, she was escorted back to Wafangdian City and detained for half a month. During detention, she insisted on practicing Falun Gong and tried to clarify the truth to the policemen, the Municipal Party Organization Department and the authorities at her work unit. Later, she was released unconditionally due to her unshakable belief in Dafa. Since she and another practitioner were among the first group who were escorted back from Beijing, local government and relevant departments were seriously criticized by the municipal authorities of Dalian City. Zhou Guixiang was given a warning punishment within the Communist Party system in Wafangdian City. Therefore, great pressure was put on Zhou Guixiang.

After she was released, the Zhanqian Police Substation, the Municipal Organization Department, her work unit and Neighborhood Committee came to her home many times. They subjected her to great pressure, coercing her to give up practicing Falun Gong. Her work unit and the Commercial Town imposed a fine of 1000 yuan on her, deducting the funds from her retirement pension. The Commercial Town also threatened to cancel her retirement pension if she did not write a "statement of guarantee" not to practice Falun Gong. With pressure from many aspects, and deceived by false articles claimed to be Teacher's, she wrote a statement against her will. The same day after she wrote the statement, she realized that she was wrong after studying the Fa and exchanging ideas with fellow practitioners. She felt extremely miserable in her heart, and wrote a declaration right away indicating that the statement she wrote was null and void, and insisting on practicing Falun Dafa.

However, due to endless persecution for days, she felt mentally very stressed and began to vomit blood. On December 8, 1999, she died as a result of the injustice she suffered.

On the afternoon of October 15, 2003, the "610 Office" from Shiqiaokou District of Wuhan City, illegally arrested Ms. Peng Zhenxiu, a practitioner in her 60s from Jixian Village.

The Politics & Law Committee, the "610 Office" and the Public Security Bureau in Ningjin County continue to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners in Ningjin County after the SARS epidemic. They investigated practitioners one by one in order to make sure that all practitioners in the county give up practicing Falun Gong. Those who would not give up their belief were subject to forcible brainwashing. They also illegally arrested Falun Dafa practitioners. Aunt Liu was sent to Xingtai for forcible brainwashing after many illegal arrests and detentions. She was also subjected to all kinds of torture methods.

Around 10:00am on October 15, Ms. Zhu Chunlan, a practitioner from Fenghuang Town was harvesting crops in the field. Guo Lisheng and Gao Zhilu came in two vehicles and abducted her. When she was taken away, she was not allowed to change her clothes. Currently, she is being detained at the Wuhan Female Detention Center.

Around 10:00am on October 15, the "610 Office" from Sandian Town and the local police rushed into Sandian Primary School and illegally arrested Ding Yuliang, a teacher who had just finished the second period of classes. He (She) is being detained at the Xinzhou Detention Center.

Slanderous words against Falun Dafa are compiled into Section Three "Advocating Science," Chapter One "I Want to Be a Qualified Little Citizen" of the book entitled Students Moral Cultivation Textbook for junior primary school pupils in Huanggang City and nearby counties. Cai Meilan, about 39 years old, is from Jiangjialin Village of Wuxue City. On September 14, 2003, she put up truth-clarifying materials at the Hubei Guangji Medicine Plant and was reported by two Security Clerks. Cai Meilan and two other practitioners were unlawfully arrested. Cai Meilan went on a hunger and water strike on the day she was arrested to protest against the illegal detention. In the Cuijiaju Detention Center in Wuxue City, the police guards force-fed her every two days. Fifteen days have passed, and her life is in great danger.

Since early this year, Dalian Forced Labor Institute has been constantly persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners by detaining them separately for forcible brainwashing. Facts of Persecution

1) A group of "6-10" officers recently spent several months in Huaiyang County, Henan Province, increasing the intensity of the Falun Gong persecution in that region. After a brief hiatus, this group returned to Huayin County, hoping to recruit citizens from every level of society to collaborate with them in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners there. In August, three Dafa practitioners, including Xiu Wei from Beiguan, were sent to the Xuchang Forced Labor Camp. On September 30, twelve Dafa practitioners from Longquanzhuang in Zhuji Village were abducted and imprisoned in the County Detention Center.

2) Weibei Forced Labor Farm in Weifang City, Shandong Province, used extremely vicious means to persecute Dafa practitioners in an effort to "transform" practitioners. There were two types of "transformation"-transformation by violence and transformation by "education." To achieve the so-called "transformation by education," practitioners who did not sign the "three guarantees" letter (guaranteeing that they would not practice Falun Gong nor associate with practitioners) were only allowed to sleep for three to five hours each night. If they withstood this, then they were deprived of sleep entirely. The vicious prison guards distorted and slandered the Fa on a daily basis to try to confuse and deceive the practitioners. Transformation by violence was an attempt to transform practitioners by violence. Brutal beatings, electric shock, confinement in small cells and forcing practitioners to squat in painful postures for long periods were some of the methods used.

Our discussions among practitioners about how to totally expose the evil acts that Jiang Zemin has committed:

Once when I was clarifying the truth I suddenly realized that Jiang Zemin is the ultimate embodiment of all the evil ever done by all of the tyrants everywhere and through all time. Jiang's extermination policy against Dafa and Dafa practitioners, the mass public burning of Dafa books, the brutal torture, the tracking and censoring software for all broadband internet users, the media blockade, and creating the "self-immolation in Tiananmen Square" show, etc. The vicious crimes that Jiang has committed exceed all of those done by every tyrant in history from ancient times to today because Jiang has directly targeted and tried to eradicate the basis for mankind's morality and goodness.

All of the evils done by every tyrant in history were arranged by the old forces and all of this viciousness was also collected by the old forces to use to test Dafa today. We have to expose the old forces' destructive arrangements in order to let people realize more clearly about the old forces and about how evil and inhuman Jiang is, so that we can deny and even eliminate them with our righteous thoughts.

1) New practitioners in China: The ailment that plagued me for many years disappeared! I am 53 years old. Before I obtained Dafa in 2002, I used to suffer from hypertension, cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, glaucoma, and chronic headache; I could hardly walk. I suffered so much from those ailments I thought I would like to end my miserable life. In 2002, some of my friends who practice Falun Gong told me that practicing Falun Dafa might be my only way to get healthy. I was a little afraid because of the persecution, but in order to heal my diseases I started to practice at home secretly. After reading Zhuan Falun and doing the exercises my chronic ailments disappeared. Since then my family became very happy. However, such a great universal Fa has been suffering under the brutal suppression by Jiang and his hoodlum group. I strongly request that all of the governments and people in the world raise your hands to help stop China from creating more lies, and to stop the persecution of Dafa practitioners, and to bring this conscienceless violator of human rights who harms the state and injures the people to justice immediately.

2) Two horrible car accidents: I am 50 years old, working in a government office. Since I obtained Dafa on July 7, 1998, I have been very energetic and free from any illness. Once when I was walking on the left side of a road, suddenly I was hit from behind by a fast-moving small van. I told the driver: "I am fine. You can go." Afterwards I was really fine as a result. Another time we were driving on a highway. We swerved to avoid hitting some debris on the highway, and our car bounced up into the air then dropped down off the road into a field. I was thrown three meters into the air and I sailed for twenty meters before dropping down heavily in a water hole. I passed out. When the onlookers pulled me out of the water hole they thought I was dead. But a while later, I woke up and stood up. I found myself totally free of any injury.

On October 11 and 12, there was an annual "Long Island Autumn Festival" held in Long Island, NY. The New York Dafa practitioners took this good opportunity to spread the Fa to the Long Island residents. Many practitioners overcame difficulties to attend this event. Many Americans heard of Falun Dafa for the first time here. They all particularly like the Dafa music and the three principles: Zhen, Shan, Ren. Many people watched the DVD and videotapes they got from practitioners and then came back next day to learn the exercises. Some recent immigrants were very excited when they found the book Zhuan Falun written in their native languages. Some adults and children recited "Falun Dafa is good" whenever they passed by our booth.
