House Concurrent Resolution 304 (full text), co-authored by Representatives Ros-Lehtinen of Florida and Lynn Woolsey of California, references China's own constitution and international human rights accords in calling for China to uphold freedom of belief, assembly, and speech for the millions of Falun Gong practitioners in Mainland China.
Resolution 304 also specifically mentioned section 401(a)(1)(B) of the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 (22 U.S.C. 6401(a)(1)(B)): "Whereas the Constitution of the United States guarantees freedom of religion, the right to assemble, and the right to speak freely, and the people of the United States strongly value protecting the ability of all people to live without fear and in accordance with their personal beliefs..."
Harassment, libel, and imprisonment have been widespread in Jiang Zemin's four-year campaign to eradicate Falun Gong. Torture and abuse in custody have led to thousands of wrongful deaths.

In addition, Resolution 304 calls on China's agents in the United States to halt all operations being carried out against practitioners of Falun Gong on United States soil.
The resolution makes reference to China's agents carrying out acts of violence and assault, property theft and destruction, illegal wire-tapping, harassment, intimidation, and persecution against practitioners of Falun Gong in the United States.
Chinese Consular officials have attempted to pressure government officials across the U.S. to recant support for Falun Gong's rights and Falun Gong activities in the United States. In fact, earlier this year, 38 members of Congress filed an Amended Brief of Amicus Curiae in support of the Falun Gong lawsuit against former head of state Jiang Zemin for his lead role in instigating the persecution (news).
The resolution also cites the case of Dr. Charles Lee, an American citizen illegally detained in China since the beginning of 2003 for his association with Falun Gong (in-depth). Dr. Lee had traveled to China to broadcast T.V. programs over the state-run television networks exposing the human rights violations against Falun Gong. While in custody, Dr. Lee has been subjected to mental and physical torture by Chinese authorities.
Resolution 304 requests four main courses of action:
1) That the Government of the People's Republic of China cease all persecutory activities of Falun Gong practitioner on US soil, as well as in China, including releasing prisoners of conscience.
2) That the President of the United States issue a statement condemning these illegal acts, and work to bring the perpetrators to justice.
3) That the Attorney General of the US investigate the incidents of harassment and violence against Falun Gong practitioners in the US by agents of the Chinese consulate and follow up with legal action.
4) That local government bodies in the US report further illegal acts and continue to recognize and support the rights of Falun Gong practitioners.

Background
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa (about), is a practice of meditation and exercises with teachings based on the universal principle of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance." It is a practice that was taught in private for thousands of years before being made public in 1992 by Mr. Li Hongzhi. Falun Gong has roots in traditional Chinese culture, but it is distinct and separate from other practices such as the religions of Buddhism and Taoism. Since its introduction in 1992, it quickly spread by word of mouth throughout China, and is now practiced in over 50 countries.
With government estimates of as many as 100 million practicing Falun Gong, China's Communist leader Jiang Zemin outlawed the peaceful practice in July 1999 (report), fearful of anything touching the hearts and minds of more citizens than the Communist Party. Unable to crush the spirit of millions who had experienced improved health and positive life changes from Falun Gong, Jiang's regime has intensified its propaganda campaign to turn public opinion against the practice while quietly imprisoning, torturing and even murdering those who practice it. To that end, Jiang established the "6-10 Office," a Gestapo-like agency spanning from the Central Government to the local governments. The United States Congress has described the "6-10 Office" as an agency charged with "overseeing the persecution of Falun Gong members through organized brainwashing, torture, and murder." (news)

- Protect Local Officials from Chinese Pressure
U.S. Congresswomen Lynn Woolsey and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen initiated a letter calling their colleagues to condemn the intense pressure on the local elected government officials from Chinese consular officials.
Their dear-colleague letter says, "Persecution of religious groups by the Chinese government, while appalling, is no longer headline news." "... the members of the Falun Gong spiritual movement face harassment, imprisonment and even death for expressing their beliefs in China."
The letter says, "Less well known is that the Chinese government is trying to stifle freedom of speech and freedom of religion here in the United States. Local government officials across America have used resolutions to support Falun Gong practitioners in their communities and condemn Chinese human rights abuses. In response, they have received intense pressure from Chinese consular officials, and in some cases even been persuaded to recant their support for Falun Gong and free speech."
The congresswomen say in the letter, "That's why we have authored a resolution condemning the pressure on local leaders from Chinese officials and supporting the rights of local leaders to defend human rights and their constituents. In the United States, we honor freedom of religion and freedom of speech -- they are two of our most basic rights. Local officials in America have every right to stand up for those values by supporting the rights of their constituents. The Chinese government should not stand between our citizens and their rights as guaranteed in the Constitution. Yet that is what is happening."

Mr. Liu Yan, born in 1969, was a Dafa practitioner from Qing'an County, Heilongjiang Province. Ever since he started Dafa cultivation in 1996, he was very diligent and always required himself to measure up to the standards of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance." He was a good person everywhere. For several years, he volunteered to clean up the public restroom near his home everyday. He did this on his own initiative and never publicized his good deeds. Before July 20, 1999, he was one of the volunteer Dafa assistants in his local area. He organized a group Fa study at his home. Every day he led fellow practitioners to study the Fa and practice the exercises. In addition, he helped many predestined people to take the path of cultivation.
After the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, Liu Yan, along with other practitioners, went to Harbin, the capital city of Heilongjiang Province, to peacefully appeal for Falun Gong. He was arrested and sent back to Qing'an County where he was illegally detained for over 20 days. He was also considered an organizer of the appeal by the local police, which led to his numerous arrests later on.
At the end of September 1999, the police intercepted some other local practitioners who planned to go to Beijing to appeal. Wang Zhilong, vice party secretary of the police department, thought Liu Yan was the organizer and he ordered his subordinates to arrest and detain him together with those who went to Beijing to appeal in the county detention center. While in detention, Liu Yan was interrogated and beaten many times. Every day he also suffered from hunger. He was not released until 72 days later.
Towards the end of June 2000, another group of local practitioners went to Beijing to appeal. Wang Zhilong once again ordered police to take away Liu Yan for no reason on June 26th. Under the direction of Chang Shijun, Chief of Zhongxing Police Station, the police ransacked Liu Yan's home and turned it upside down. While searching, they used abusive language. Chang Shijun had arrested practitioners many times. Many practitioners in his jurisdiction had had their homes ransacked. Chang Shijun later received retribution and died of cancer in 2002.
Anyone who has even a little knowledge of Falun Gong knows that Falun Gong has no organization or structure. Every practitioner follows his or her understanding and does what he or she deems appropriate. However, in Qing'an County, whenever anything came up, they would arrest Liu Yan.
While in detention, Liu Yan insisted on studying the Fa and practicing the exercises. As a result, he was body searched many times and his Dafa books were also snatched away. Wang Zhilong once tore a Dafa book and a picture of Teacher's himself. He claimed that he was not afraid of retribution. He also personally beat and cursed practitioners. Liu Yan was once exposed to the scorching sun while enduring beating and kicking. The torture did not stop until he passed out.
In order to protest against the long-term illegal detention, practitioners went on a group hunger strike. Wang Zhilong again thought Liu Yan organized the strike, so he dragged Liu Yan out for corporal punishment. He whipped Liu Yan with bamboo sticks, insulted him and administered force-feeding on him. Liu Yan was once force fed high density brine that went into his lungs, causing him to spit blood and pass blood in his stool.
Other practitioners were also force-fed. During the process, practitioners were tied to chairs and could not move at all. Four policemen pinched the cheeks of practitioners, and nipped their noses preventing them from breathing. The police then used iron spoons to pry open their mouths. Some practitioners had their teeth loosened. Practitioners were also injected with some unknown drug and had various negative effects afterwards. Some female practitioners' menses turned black. Some lost their hearing, and spit blood. Some had to drink a lot of water after being released and they found they urinated dark fluid.
After going on hunger strike for 8 days, Liu Yan was extremely weak and near death. In order to shirk their responsibility, the county government finally decided to release him. However, they still ordered his work unit to send people to his home to monitor him every day. After Liu Yan gradually recovered, they again took him away.
On January 17, 2001, over 10 practitioners were arrested for distributing Dafa materials. In order to extort information about the source of the materials, Wang Zhilong, along with former political section chief Ye Guilin (who has since died of cancer), tied up Liu Yan and two other practitioners with thin ropes and hung them up. They then slapped them in the face, kicked them with leather shoes, and beat their ribs with hard objects. One practitioner had his thumb paralyzed on the spot because of the tying. A female practitioner spit blood. Everyone had numerous wounds all over their body, and their faces were swollen beyond recognition. Still the police could not get any information from them. Furious, the police decided to send Liu Yan and other 5 practitioners to Suihua Labor Camp. Because Liu Yan was in critical condition, the labor camp refused to take him. The police used their relationship with some authorities and forced the camp to accept him. Thus Liu Yan was illegally sentenced to one and a half years of forced labor.
In the labor camp, Liu Yan was still very firm in his Dafa cultivation. He never wavered. He went once again on a hunger strike for 21 days. Before the persecution, Liu Yan was in excellent health. However, now because of the long-term detention, hunger strike, and torture he had suffered tremendously both physically and mentally, he was reduced to only skin and bones. He had various pathogenic symptoms: his feet were swollen, he had fever, he coughed, he spit blood and his lungs were swollen as well. Not wanting to take any responsibility, the labor camp informed his family to pick him up. His sister and brother who live in Changchun came to get him and sent him to a hospital for treatment. He was hospitalized for several months, and his family spent tens of thousands of Yuan on the medical expenses. However, because of the severe injuries he suffered, he passed away on July 21, 2002, at the age of 34.
His elderly mother was heart broken after learning of his death. Now she is paralyzed because of the trauma. His wife and his son were left behind. A once happy family was thus ruined.
Even though more and more people are awakening to the lies and becoming aware of the persecution of Falun Gong, still the persecution is running rampant. The plight of Liu Yan is just the tip of the iceberg of the persecution of tens of millions of Falun Gong practitioners. We call for justice, and conscience. We hope all kindhearted people can lend their support to help end the persecution and bring Jiang and his "610 Office" to justice.

(Clearwisdom.net) Dafa practitioner Mr. Li Shunjiang from Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province (about 36 years old with a college education) is now being persecuted at the 9th Ward of Tailai Prison, Heilongjiang Province. Mr. Li Shunjiang has been illegally detained for almost three years, but he never yielded to the evildoers, no matter where he was incarcerated, either in a detention center or in prison.
On October 19, 2003, Li Shunjiang was again locked in a confinement cell because he practiced Falun Gong exercises publicly in the 9th Ward of the prison. After he was locked in the confinement cell, Li Shunjiang did not yield and started a hunger strike to protest the persecution. He has now been on hunger strike for seven days and is extremely weak. Because of the lengthy abuse during his detention and the persecution, his physical condition was already very weak prior to his hunger strike. But the callous police ignored the danger to his life and they would not release him from the confinement cell.
We hope that Dafa practitioners will send forth righteous thoughts to eliminate all the evil forces in other dimensions that persecute Li Shunjiang, and to help him to come back to the current of Fa rectification as soon as possible. We also hope that the kind-hearted people will pay attention to Mr. Li Shunjiang's situation. At the same time we also sternly warn those evildoing police who have been acting as a tool for the barbarous forces during this persecution to think of their future and stop treating Dafa practitioners so ruthlessly.
All practitioners, college classmates, friends and relatives who know Li Shunjiang are paying close attention to his health and safety.

(Clearwisdom.net) On October 7, 2003, for a distance of over a mile, banners proclaiming "Falun Dafa is good" lined the main road in Xianning City, Hubei Province.
On October 8, Xianning government officials began dispatching policemen to search the homes of Falun Gong practitioners and to arrest them. One of the practitioners died as a result of the police's actions on that day.
The International Organization for Investigating the Persecution of Falun Gong has started looking into this case. According to the investigation, Ms. Xu Yufeng, 46 years old, was an employee of the Xianning Decoration Company. On October 8, 2003 at 10 p.m., eight policemen from the Chalukou Police Branch in the Hot Spring Development Area broke into her house without showing their badges and attempted to take her away. Xu Yufeng locked herself in her room, but the police pressured her family to unlock the door. When she tried to escape from her sixth floor window by sliding down on a long strip of cloth, she fell to the ground and died. On the evening of October 9, Xianning government officials dispatched 70 to 80 policemen to forcibly take her body for cremation.
The police on duty in the Hot Spring Development Area confirmed these facts (1).
In addition to Chalukou Police Branch, No.1 Police Branch, No.3 Branch, the on-duty policemen in Yongan Police Branch under Xian'an Police Department (2) and the supervisor in charge of this case (3), the on-duty chief of Nanshan Police Branch (4) also acknowledged that they had dispatched police to participate in the arrest and detention of Falun Gong practitioners in detention centers.
An on-duty policewoman from Xian'an Police Department and another official denied the existence of Xu Yufeng, but they did not deny the arrest of Falun Gong practitioners or the death of a Falun Gong practitioner.
Xiao Chuanjia, the head of Xian'an Police Department, hung up the phone as soon as he heard the "International Investigation Organization" was on the line.
It has been confirmed that Falun Gong practitioner Xu Yufeng died during the police raid and that many Falun Gong practitioners are being detained.

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Liu Congmei, over 50 years old, is a Falun Dafa practitioner from Gaoqing County, Shandong Province. She was illegally detained for 8 months at the Shandong Women's Forced Labour Camp for appealing for Falun Dafa. Later, because she persisted in appealing for Falun Dafa, she was sent to the No. Three Mental Hospital in Bingzhou City, Shandong Province. She has not been released.
Liu Congmei obtained the Fa and began to practice Falun Dafa in 1999, and as a result her gynocogical diseases were cured without seeking medical treatment. On July 20, 1999 Jiang started the persecution of Falun Dafa. Policemen from the local police sub-station used force to prohibit people from practicing Falun Dafa. They confiscated cassette recorders and tapes that Dafa practitioners used to practice the exercises. This was hard for Liu Congmei to understand and accept, as she had benefited so much from practicing the exercises. She said to the policemen, "I practice the exercises to keep fit and be free of illnesses. I only want to be a good person and have no intention of being against the government. Why are we not allowed to practice any more?" She went to Beijing to appeal in accordance with the law; however she was arrested and taken to the Shandong Provincial Women's Forced Labour Camp with several hundred others.
In the forced labour camp, Liu Congmei spoke the truth by saying, "Our Teacher teaches us to practice the exercises and be a good person. What's wrong with that? We are all innocent and our Teacher is innocent." As a result, the policemen handcuffed her into the shape of a cross and beat her badly. Her face and head became swollen and her mouth started bleeding. Another practitioner was injected with nerve damaging drugs because she did not give up the practice of Falun Dafa. This practitioner was once a healthy person but now her eyes and mouth are crooked and she drools all the time.
Liu Congmei was illegally held at the Shandong Women's Forced Labour Camp for 8 months. During that period, she and other practitioners were forced to work more than ten hours a day. She was released after 8 month of suffering. Returning back home, she continued to appeal for Falun Dafa and clarify the truth about the persecution. As a result, she was sent to the No. Three Mental Hospital in Binzhou City, Shandong Province by the local government officials and has not been back home since.

Ms. Ge Yanwen, 36, was a Dafa practitioner working at the 2nd Shijiazhuang Chemical Factory in Hebei Province. She had received a college level education. Since July 20, 1999 when the persecution of Falun Gong started, she had been abducted and detained numerous times. She and her husband were forced to leave their home to avoid persecution. Deputies from the Tangu police station and local affairs office abducted Yanwen from her mother's home on October 22, 2003. Yanwen's whereabouts are unknown at this time.
Yanwen's husband, Ding Lihong, 36, was a locomotive operator at the Shijiazhuang Railroad Yard. They lived at the Jianming Residential District in Shijiazhuang City. He had gone to Beijing four times to appeal against the persecution of Falun Gong and suffered numerous detentions. Their home was also repeatedly ransacked. He was abducted by the Huaizhong Street police near the end of August 2001. After 28 days of a hunger strike he was released, but was forced to leave home. During the Chinese New Year holidays in 2002 (around February 12, 2002) the Public Security Bureau coerced Shijiazhuang Railroad Yard to abduct Ding Lihong to the Hebei Provincial Capital Brainwashing Center (Officially named "Hebei Provincial Capital Judiciary System Education and Training Center"). He endured endless torture in the center. He was deprived of sleep for more than a month. He was often force-fed with a high concentration salt brine and alcohol. He was often beaten. Finally, with his unwavering faith in Teacher he miraculously escaped from the brainwashing class, and went to Shanxi Province. He was arrested again in October 2002 and taken to the Wanbailin police station in Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. Later he was transferred to the 4th Detention Center and the 109 Hospital in Taiyuan City. He went on a hunger strike for 15 days. The guards coerced inmates to force-feed him by tying him to the "Dead man's bed" (a torture in which a special bed is used to tie up practitioners). He was tortured to death in the middle of November 2002.
From the time Ding Lihong was detained to his final moment near death, the police in Shanxi Province never released any information about him to his family and relatives. About one month after his death, his parents were notified to go to Shanxi Province to verify and claim his body. The police forcibly cremated the body locally in Shanxi Province. His family brought the urn containing Lihong's ashes back to Shijiazhuang around December 20, 2002.
Within a year of his death, his wife was abducted. Now only the elderly parents and their children are left behind and without anyone to care for them. The Jiang regime has destroyed another peaceful and loving family.

Ms. Yang Fenglian, a Falun Dafa practitioner, was a senior examiner and an associate professor at Hebei Technical College of Architecture in Handan City. Before her Dafa cultivation, she suffered from many illnesses ranging from cancer to serious heart conditions. During the course of her cultivation, she gained excellent health both physically and mentally.
Because of Jiang's suppression of Falun Gong, Yang went to Beijing to appeal on October 1, 2000, and was arrested and incarcerated. She was later sentenced to one year of forced labor and was taken to the Fifth Team of Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp. While in the labor camp, she underwent all kinds of tortures due to the "percentage of transformation" (referring to percentage of practitioners who renounce Falun Dafa under pressure) quota. Methods of torture included: tying up, hanging, beating, shocking with electric batons, extended periods of sleep deprivation, forbidding practitioners from closing their eyes, and forcing everyone to write the "four statements" [Practitioners are coerced under brainwashing and torture to write specific documents as proof that they have given up their beliefs. This was created by the "610 Office."]. She witnessed a practitioner named Ma Gaiting be hung up for so long that his arm muscles atrophied from loss of blood flow. She also witnessed several practitioners suffer from mental breakdowns, and some were even tortured to death.
Ms. Yang's husband divorced her when he could no longer take the pressure caused by the persecution. In addition, their only daughter was also jailed for 10 months, tortured and shocked with electric batons several times, simply because she had gone to Beijing to appeal. At the time she was only sixteen. Her father eventually got her released with the help of his friends and with 3,000 Yuan (500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China). After hearing of the situation, Ms. Yang's mother suddenly became ill and was bedridden. In the meantime, Ms. Yang was expelled from the Party and fired by the school.
Six months after Ms. Yang's release from the forced labor camp, the persons in charge of persecuting practitioners at the college, Yang Jinting, Party Secretary Li Wanqing, manager of City Architecture Department Zhang Ziping, Security Department director Mao Ruixin, and office director of the City Architecture Department Zhang Yufang managed to deceive her into going to the school on January 17, 2002. They had spent a large sum of money on preparation and were ready to send her to the brainwashing center in Shijiazhuang. Relying on her righteous thoughts, Yang escaped their plot and went home. From then on she was virtually under house arrest. People watched her and her home around the clock. The college, the community office, and Kaiyuan Police Station sent people to her house several times to arrest her, but Yang refused to open the door. She was steadfast in sending forth righteous thoughts and this caused their evil attempts to fail.
On November 2, 2002, over 30 policemen from Kaiyuan Police Station and Hanshan District Police Sub-bureau swarmed Yang's house. With a lifter, they raised themselves up from the outside to the sixth floor where Yang lived, broke through the window and entered her apartment. She and her daughter were forcibly arrested and taken away. That night, under the direction of Hanshan District Police Sub-bureau Chief Liu Wenming, the Captain of Kaiyuan Police Station Wang Lin led members of the police force to torture Yang. They shocked Yang with several electric batons simultaneously trying to extort a confession from her. Yang's head was badly swollen, her hands and arms covered with blisters, and the injuries lasted for over two months without signs of recovery. After the torture, they transferred Yang to the Second Detention Center in Handan City where she was incarcerated for a period of ten months.
During the time that Yang was jailed, the Kaiyuan Police Station attempted several times to send her back to the forced labor camp once again. Because of the torture, Yang had blood and pus in her stool everyday. Her heartbeat was irregular, reaching as high as one hundred and forty beats a minute. Her weight dropped from 145 pounds to 90 pounds. Considering that the forced labor camp would not take her, the police had no alternative but to not send her there. She was not released until August 2003, at which time they extorted over 2000 Yuan from her family.
One month after her release, on September 27, 2003, College Party Secretary Li Wanqing, a new person in charge of the persecution Li Kuiliang, City Architecture Department Party Secretary Jiang Bianliang, and Security Department Director Mao Ruixin conspired together and forcibly arrested Ms. Yang when she went grocery shopping. They took her to the brainwashing center on Xihuan Road in Handan City. In protest, Yang went on a hunger strike and was force-fed. She was extremely weak and began to throw up blood, passing out several times. Through this, she was still able to maintain her righteous thoughts. Mr. Li Jinke from Henan Province was arrested on two different occasions for going to Beijing to appeal for the end to the persecution of Falun Gong. The second time he was forcibly detained at the Xuchang Forced Labor Camp. In April of this year, the authorities operating this labor camp began a round of severe torture of Falun Gong practitioners. Police continue to persecute those practitioners who remain steadfast in their faith. The building that used to serve as the place for detainees to visit with their family members is now being used as a place to torture practitioners. The rooms are filled with instruments of torture and the corridors and walls are lined with slogans defaming Falun Gong.
From April through October police have tortured Li Jinke by binding him tightly in a straitjacket for extended periods. Every night, grief-stricken cries can be heard reverberating through the sky above the labor camp. Due to the long-term torture, Li Jinke now weighs only 70 to 80 Jin [about 77 to 88 pound]. The police are continuing to torture him to force him to renounce his practice of Falun Gong. The president of the labor camp has threatened on several occasions to inject Mr. Li with drugs against his will.

SYDNEY, Oct 30 AAP - Almost 100 Falun Gong demonstrators gathered outside the Chinese consulate in Sydney today to protest at the detention of prisoners held in Jilin Prison in north-eastChina.
Protesters lined the street outside the consulate holding banners calling for the release of around 100 Falun Gong followers on hunger strike, who they say are being tortured by prison guards.
Relatives of past prisoners who have died in China sat in silence outside the consulate gates holding wreaths bearing the names and photographs of their lost loved ones.
Falun Gong spokeswoman Kay Rubacek spoke of the conditions in the jail in the Jilin province and claimed prisoners were routinely attacked by prison wardens.
"These are just 100 people out of millions who are being held unfairly in prisons across China," she said.
"The 100 (Falun Gong) practitioners are in Jilin Prison and they are on an extended hunger strike in protest at the torture by guards of prisoners.We are calling for the immediate release of these prisoners and an end to the torture carried out by prison guards at Jilin."

At noon of October 28, Canada Falun Gong practitioners held a press conference in front of the Chinese Embassy in Ottawa and Chinese Consulates in other cities. Several practitioners who were originally from Jilin Province made speeches exposing the brutal persecution of over one hundred Falun Gong practitioners in Jilin Prison and demanding immediate release of all illegally detained Falun Gong practitioners and humanitarian aid to Liu Chengjun. Falun Gong practitioners have already requested the Canadian Government to appeal for urgent rescue.
Based on reports from Clearwisdom.net on October 26 and 27, more than 100 Falun Gong practitioners are being held in Jilin Prison, and most of them are undertaking a hunger strike to protest the ongoing severe torture by prison guards there. The current situation is critical, and one of them, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Chengjun from Changchun City has been confirmed to be on the verge of death as a result of torture he received.

Mr. Bixing Zhang from Jilin Province said to the media, "Jilin Province is where Master Li's hometown is located and one of the provinces that have greatly benefited from Falun Gong. But since the persecution in 1999, it is one of the provinces with the worst persecution."
Mr. Zhang said, "I represent practitioners in Jilin Province and I call on the Chinese Government to follow the constitution, stop the persecution against Falun Gong, release all illegally detained Falun Gong practitioners, and safeguard the basic rights of Falun Gong practitioners. Jiaxin Guo, the Director of the Vancouver Charter of the Global Alliance for Democracy and Peace, sent a fax to this event calling on the Chinese Government to immediately release all the innocent Falun Gong practitioners and end the persecution as well as establish legal a system that respects human rights.
In the press statement, Vancouver Falun Gong practitioners said that according to a reliable source 100+ illegally detained Falun Gong practitioners are on a group hunger strike to protest Jiang Zemin's brutal persecution against Falun Gong practitioners and they are in very critical condition. The investigation conducted by World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong has revealed that Chengjun Liu was severely tortured in jail to critical condition and he is in coma in a hospital. Liu was sentenced to a 19-year prison term for broadcasting Falun Gong truth-clarification programs in Changchun cable network on March 5, 2002.
The statement said that the Jiang regime's persecution against Falun Gong is completely based on lies. In order to expose the information blockade by the Party, Falun Gong practitioners, including Chengjun Liu, used the means of TV interception to help people learn about the truth of Falun Gong. This act is very righteous and courageous, it is also meant to safeguard the rights of freedom of speech and to let people know the facts, which are conferred by the Constitution.
Yuzhi Wang, who was rescued to Vancouver by the Canadian Government, said: "Today, Chengjun Liu and 100+ other Falun Gong practitioners are holding a hunger strike because their basic human rights have been completely deprived. They are now risking their lives to awaken everyday people's conscience and safeguard the truth. So why should not we speak out for them and appeal for all the fellow citizens persecuted by the Chinese regime so that the suffering of the innocent people can be reduced and people can be awakened from the lies. We need to protect the basic morality of human beings from being violated by dictators and to protect innocent people from arbitrary detention and massacre."
When interviewed by the media, Vancouver Falun Gong spokeswoman Ying Li cited the case of Taiwan Falun Gong practitioner Hsiao-kai Lin who was kidnapped by the Shanghai Branch of the Chinese Security Bureau to emphasize that overseas voices of concern from Governments, organizations and everyday people are very helpful to rescue Falun Gong practitioners who are being persecuted in China. It was the mighty appeal for Justice from overseas that eventually brought Lin back to Taiwan.
We need to confront evil and speak out regardless of the price and consequence. Silence can only foster evil.

A Taiwanese [practitioner] of Falun Gong who was released this week after 20 days detention in China said Wednesday that his interrogators had threatened to track him down in Taiwan if he revealed what they discussed with him.
Lin Hsiao-kai, 30, who returned to Taiwan on Monday, told a news conference here that his interrogators had tried to elicit from him information about the spiritual movement's activities in Taiwan, and get him to return home and find out more for them.

"They hoped I would provide them with names of Taiwanese [practitioners] and with information about the group's activities, not only in Taiwan, but also in the United States," he said.
Lin was arrested Oct. 7 in Shanghai while trying to contact another member of the group, said Chang Ching-hsi, a Falun Gong spokesman in Taiwan.
Chang said that Lin wasn't acquainted with the person he was looking for. "Maybe the person didn't exist" and it was just a trap, he said.
Lin did not mention any physical mistreatment during his detention. He told reporters he never took a confrontational attitude toward his interrogators, but chatted with them, and only told them about group activities that were already widely known - adding that he didn't have special information about the -[group] anyway.
"I am not a special person inside the Falun Gong," Lin said.
Lin said his wife assisted his release by holding news conferences that changed the attitude of the Chinese authorities.
However, the Chinese investigators warned him that they would hunt him down in Taiwan if he revealed what was discussed during the interrogations, Lin said.
He said his interrogators told him, "We'll definitely be able to find you." They also phoned his wife in Taiwan to warn her against holding more news conferences, he said.
Lin said he was shocked to find out that his Chinese interrogators knew almost everything about his life and work in Taiwan, including information about his wife and friends.
"They told me they were aware of about 70 to 80 percent of Falun Gong activists in Taiwan," he said.

(Clearwisdom.net) After three weeks' illegal detention by Shanghai National Security Bureau, Taiwan Falun Dafa practitioner Lin Xiaokai finally was released and returned to Taiwan. On October 28, Falun Dafa Association of Taiwan initiated the "Cycle Around the Island Rescue Trip" as planned to invite people in Taiwan to sign petitions calling on the Chinese government to release detained Taiwanese Falun Gong practitioners in China.
The "Cycle Around the Island Rescue Trip" started from Zhongzheng Memorial on the morning of October 28. Twenty Falun Gong practitioners divided into east and west lines. The press conference before the trip attracted may reporters from different media agencies, and the reporters all actively interviewed practitioners and asked many questions on why Falun Gong was persecuted in China. After practitioners talked to them, many of them understood the truth of Falun Gong. The "Protect Taiwan Human Rights, Stop Tyranny Signature Drive" signature collecting cloths that were set up around the event site became the focal points of the reporters' cameras. Three members of Taiwan's Legislative Yuan, Mr. Guo Tiancai, Pang Jianguo and Li Jiajin also showed up to offer support.
The East line will pass through Taipei, Chilong, Ilan, Hualien, and Pingtung and will meet with the practitioners of the west line on November 10.
The first stop passed through the South Port District. We visited the district manager and clarified the truth of Falun Gong to him.
It was a long trip. It was especially hard for the aged practitioners when climbing a slope; however they tried hard to keep up with others. During the trip, practitioners encouraged each other and formed one body. Along the route, many people expressed their support.
When practitioners reached the first stop, they got to Chilong Port to join local practitioners' signature drive. The effect was very good. When the news of Lin Xiaokai's release reached there, the people there all shouted with joy. Practitioners knew that the support of the Taiwanese people had made the early release of Lin Xiaokai and the signature drive a very meaningful event.
(Clearwisdom.net) In order to rescue Falun Gong practitioners currently being detained and sentenced by Chinese authorities, Taiwan Falun Dafa Association launched a Bicycle Tour Across Taiwan entitled, "Let kind and innocent Taiwan citizens return home! Stop China from trampling upon Taiwan's human rights." The tour set off on the morning of October 28, 2003 from the front gate of Chong ChengáMemorial Temple in Taipei, dividing into East and West branches to travel across the whole island. Before leaving, the practitioners heard the news that Lin Hsiao-kai was released, but there are still many other Falun Gong practitioners suffering from illegal detention. Falun Gong practitioners in Taiwan share the same understanding: so long as the persecution is not ended, their rescue efforts will not stop.

At the press conference of the bicycle tour, the Chairman of the Taiwan Falun Dafa Association, Prof. Chang Ching-hsi said that Falun Gong is a cultivation that teaches practitioners to be good people, and has never been against the Chinese government. Arbitrary detention of Taiwanese people is unacceptable, and will upset people in both Taiwan and China. Currently, there are more than 300,000 Falun Gong practitioners in Taiwan; together with their relatives, the number amounts to hundreds of thousands of people, he said. He hopes the Chinese government will think deeply of the Chinese people's future.
Mr. Guo Tiancai, a Legislative Committee member of Lin Hsiao-kai's hometown in Tainan said that Falun Gong is freedom of belief. During his previous post as Director of Education, he used to list Falun Gong as one of courses for Teachers' Study Camps. He found that Falun Gong is a cultivation that values morality, so he called upon China to end the irrational suppression of Falun Gong as soon as possible.
Mr. Li Jiajin, a Legislative Committee Secretary said the parliament amended the "Statute of People's Relationship in Both Taiwan and China" so as to create a harmonious and mutually beneficial relationship. He also said that if China doesn't want to damage the relations between people in Taiwan and China, the authorities should release all Taiwanese Falun Gong practitioners as soon as possible, to safeguard the human rights and release all Falun Gong practitioners from the Chinese jails.
Falun Gong practitioners' representative Mr. Yang Youguo expressed that participating in the island wide tour is based on his sense of justice and his support for human rights. He emphasized that Falun Gong is a cultivation that teaches people to be good and that those who persecute good people must be have bad intentions. He hoped people all over the world would give support so as to end the persecution of Falun Gong as soon as possible.
Twenty Falun Gong practitioners participated in this bicycle tour. They divided into East and West branches and will travel to all counties and cities in Taiwan. The west branch traveled south from Taipei to Kaohsiung; the east branch traveled from Taipei, passing through Keelung until Pingdong. The two branches are scheduled to meet on November 10 at Chong Cheng Culture Center in Kaohsiung, and hold a press conference at 3:00 p.m. at the Chong Cheng Culture Center to finish up the tour. Along the way, they will invite all Taiwanese to sign their names to show their support, and request China to obey the International Human Rights Treaty, to safeguard people's basic freedom of belief and their safety, to release innocent Taiwanese as soon as possible and stop violating Taiwan people's basic human rights.
The east branch arrived at their first stop, Keelung, at 4:00 p.m. on October 29. The photos show the practitioners on bicycles passing through downtown Keelung. From 4:00p.m. to 6:00p.m. is the rush hour when people are off work, and there are crowds of people. Keelung practitioners and practitioners participating in the bicycle tour collected signatures at the boat dock and gained many kind-hearted people's support. At 10:00 a.m. on October 30, the practitioners held a press conference at Keelung Culture Center.
The west branch traveled through Xindian in the morning and they attracted much attention along the way. In the afternoon they arrived in Zhonghe City and Yonghe City and visited the Deputy Mayor of Zhonghe City and a Representative in Yonghe City.

The Deputy Mayor of Zhonghe City said people doing good deeds should be encouraged, and this is needed in society. Though he hadn't met with Falun Gong practitioners before, he has never heard that Falun Gong has done anything to violate the law. He also heard that Falun Gong is good for people's health and can purify people's minds, so he felt he should give support for Falun Gong.
A Representative from Yonghe City expressed that safeguarding people's basic living right and dignity is everybody's responsibility, and especially when Taiwanese people are suffering persecution, she felt she should step forward to help. She knows that Falun Gong is a healthy activity in Taiwan, and people practice it in small or big parks in almost every residential area. Falun Gong helps people to improve both physically and mentally, and it has no political agenda, so she would like to step forward to help more people to strive for basic rights and dignity.

After repeatedly reading Teacher's recent lecture "Teaching the Fa at the Discussion on Creating Fine Art", my personal understanding is that Teacher has already begun the last ten-year period of the Fa-rectification, or the Fa-rectifying the human realm.
Recently, many homeless practitioners in China have gone back to their original workplaces or found new jobs. I interpret this in two ways. One is that a large amount of evil beings in other dimensions have been eliminated, thus lessening the persecution . The other is that the workplaces need practitioners to tell people there the facts about Falun Dafa and the persecution. While practitioners rectify the Fa in that kind of environment, they leave for the future an absolutely righteous path. Because the old forces restricted many people's thinking, they cannot recognize the beauty and the majesty of Dafa. They even regard the practitioners' selflessness as something strange or abnormal. However, when the Fa's rectification of the human realm arrives, the truth will be revealed and people will experience a whole new way of thinking. When their locked minds are opened, people will be shocked and at the same time, they will remember the Falun Gong practitioners' great deeds that displayed their righteousness and great forbearance. In the future, people will walk on the pure, righteous path practitioners created for the new epoch.
The impact of practitioners' every word, every move and every deed in their daily lives goes far beyond the realm of personal cultivation; they are examples for the future. Teacher said, "If you do well, mankind will emulate it; if you don't do well, mankind will emulate that as well. So Dafa disciples have to do well" ("Teaching the Fa at the Discussion on Creating Fine Art"). This requires Dafa disciples to be strict with themselves in their work and everyday lives, and to show Dafa disciples' proper images. This includes our actions around those who know us as Dafa disciples and those who don't. We cannot relax the requirement on ourselves just because others don't know we are Falun Gong practitioners. People don't know now, but they will know in the future. During the Fa-rectification period, every level, every workplace, and every situation are part of the Dafa disciples' responsibility. So we must do well in order to be deserving of the title of Fa-rectification period Dafa disciples.

"But you often emphasize the results instead of fully explaining to them the facts that you should explain during that process. Only when all people know the truth that they should know are you really validating the Fa and clarifying the facts. Wherever a problem surfaces, go tell people the facts, and you shouldn't be doing it just to push the lawsuit forward but to tell them the facts. And if the lawsuit is stuck somewhere, then that must be where it needs you to clarify the facts, and then maybe the lawsuit will naturally go forward."

I have realized that in this lecture Master pointed out some of our attachments that manifested during the trial of Jiang, and also pointed out the right direction for us, which is highly instructive for much of the Dafa work we are doing right now.
Everything in the Three Realms was created for Dafa. The purpose of the lawsuit against Jiang is to clarify the truth more thoroughly, more systemically and in greater depth. Truth clarification is not a complement for the legal procedure. On the other hand, when Dafa practitioners as one body have a basic common understanding of what we should clarify and how to clarify it, when we clarify all the key facts to all governments, organizations, groups and individuals who should know the truth, we would promote the court's understanding of the lawsuit against Jiang. Then, practitioners who are engaged in the legal work of the trial and our attorney can use their professional knowledge and skills to a greater extent.
In the first paragraph of "Lunyu" in Zhuan Falun, there is a sentence, "... humankind must fundamentally change its conventional thinking." For a long time, we have formed habits of thinking and doing things as ordinary people. Especially when doing things, ordinary people encourage detailed investigation and persistent exploration. During the process, they study the details and come up with different methods in order to reach a certain goal or achieve a certain result. However, most of these habits are what we must continuously overcome and transcend in the course of cultivation.
The lawsuit against Jiang processed by a federal court in Illinois, U.S. has been through a lot of ups and downs since it was first filed, and generally we focus our attention on what approach we should take in order to win the lawsuit. Of course, there are also other elements at work. As a Fa-rectification disciple, I want to bring up some issues that have to do with our fundamental way of thinking, so that we can all reflect upon the problem.
When we took the progress of the lawsuit against Jiang as the sign of progress of the Fa-rectification, did we really look at it from the Fa principles or was our selfish mentality of wanting it to quickly end and our emotions at play?
Many ordinary people look at the greater social climate before they make a decision on something they are concerned about. They take things that they can see as the criterion, and base their estimation on that. Are there many Dafa practitioners who estimate the finish time by observing political and other events in the ordinary society? Is it true that they have not yet eliminated the attachment to time and to the completion of the Fa- rectification?
We are the lead actors in this great play in the human world. However, many practitioners are not clear on Fa-rectification and the principles of Fa-rectification cultivation. They used to sincerely hope that clear-minded ordinary people would step forward and "bring us justice," "restore our reputation" [This is different from what we are doing on the surface during truth-clarification]. Their minds rely heavily on ordinary people and other people, yet they are not aware of it themselves, and the result is that their omissions are taken advantage of by the old forces and the persecution is escalated. Master has told us about the premier of China, the sixteenth Party congress, and later the worsening results at the Geneva human rights conference, all of which happened as a result of our attachments. A series of losses to saving people took place because of shortcomings in our cultivation. The fact that they continuously take place shows that we are far from having cultivated well in this aspect, and we have not paid enough attention to it. When we first start planning something, oftentimes our intention is good, but we become more and more attached as we dig deeper into it, and in the end we forget about our true goal. Obviously, we should not make the same mistakes again and again, and that would mean that we don't study the Fa well enough.
Other than relying on people in power, governments, organizations, technology, and scholars in the ordinary society, Dafa material sites and other Dafa practitioners, is our habit of being attached to doing things still very strong? When difficulties and even interference come up, we often concentrate our effort on the quantity and technical details, and on changing others and external factors. Sometimes, even our goal in exchanging experiences with fellow practitioners and in clarifying the truth is to change the other person, so that our work at hand will progress as smoothly as we had planned. Therefore, we often grow anxious and emphasize whether the work was done according to our plan or our hope, and in the process we are not willing to calm down, look inward and find the root cause to the problem in our heart from the perspective of cultivation. At the same time, it is also easy for us to be near-sighted and forget about the whole picture and the role of parts in a whole, and we forget about other elements that take advantage of our gaps and interfere with us in other dimensions.
Master pointed out in "Teaching and Explaining the Fa at the Metropolitan New York Fa Conference",
"For a long time now some students just haven't gotten rid of their fundamental attachments! And as things have piled up, at the end they aren't able to overcome them and their tribulations get big. When problems occur, instead of searching for problems in their xinxing, fundamentally improving themselves, or truly letting go of the matter and coming through in an open and dignified manner by another route, they focus on the thing at hand--"Goodness... why is it that I still can't overcome this thing? I've done better today, so it should have improved a little. Tomorrow I'll do even better and it should improve some more." He can never let go of that thing. On the surface it appears that he's letting it go--"Look, I'm doing well now." You're doing well now but you are doing well now for its sake. You aren't doing that for the purpose of doing what a true Dafa disciple should do!"
The twists and turns that have happened during the lawsuit against Jiang in the U.S. and Belgium are in fact great opportunities for Fa-rectification disciples, no matter how the behind-the-scenes helpers of the old forces plan to obstruct and "test" us in a destructive manner. If Dafa practitioners can treat it with righteous thoughts, truly improve our understandings on the Fa, improve our xinxing through looking inward, look at the lawsuit against Jiang and the trial from the point of validating Dafa and saving people, the whole situation would change in a fundamental way. To be more clear, if our cultivation state is good, our understanding of the truth is clear, and we have clarified all of the truth that we should clarify, the lawsuit against Jiang would naturally take a turn for good, and maybe the technical demands would not be so strict. This is different from any ordinary person's case. Jiang has persecuted so many Dafa practitioners and ordinary people, he absolutely cannot escape the trial by history and by people. It is only a matter of time. The lawsuit against Jiang and the trial both exist for the purpose of enabling people to learn the truth. With the lawsuit, it is very convenient for us to clarify the truth; if this formality did not exist, we would still need to clarify the truth.
Taking a step backward, this doesn't mean giving up our pure initial goal or our sacred mission to save people, it means to jump outside of the specific work and conflicts, return to the Fa and calmly understand the whole picture, the whole body, what the relationship is between parts and the whole body, and what we can do to ensure the purity and righteousness of our starting point.
(Clearwisdom.net) In May 2001, I attended an experience sharing conference in my hometown. During the conference, four policemen broke into the meeting room. To avoid arrest, I jumped from a third floor window. Unfortunately, I suffered a spinal injury and a broken pelvis. Doctors said I would be paralyzed if I didn't get treatment. I agreed to a major surgery on my spine. After the surgery, my doctor prescribed pain killers for me, and my family also begged me to take them. But I knew as a practitioner I shouldn't take drugs such as morphine. I decided to endure the excruciating pain. For a whole night, I couldn't sleep. Sweat drenched my entire body. As I was enduring the pain, I recalled Master's words:
"When any being in this cosmos has enlightened to his Fa, his Fa-principles, or his Attainment Status--no matter at what level--he has to go through a truly serious test. This determines whether what he has enlightened to can hold ground in this cosmos, and it establishes his mighty virtue. That's why all beings encounter in their cultivation the kind of situation we're experiencing today."("Teaching the Fa at the Western U.S. Fa Conference" in Guiding the Voyage)
Shortly after that, the pain ended and my condition improved quickly. Fellow patients in my room were all amazed. A nurse gave me a thumbs up: "You are remarkable." After that, I never felt the pain again. During my hospital stay, I took every opportunity to clarify the truth and validate Dafa's supernatural power. Not long after that, I checked out of the hospital and returned home. I was able to read Dafa books again.
I let go of all my attachments. My heart was very calm. During my recovery in the hospital, I experienced so much suffering. I lost control of my bladder and bowel movement. I survived high fever after the surgery. I was paralyzed from the waist down. I couldn't even turn over. I survived all these with a practitioner's determination. Doctors told me, "Your surgery was a great success." Upon hearing this, tears came down my cheeks. Master is taking care of me and he's given me the best of the best. When I finally returned home, I could not walk. I treated everything I encountered with righteous thoughts and read Dafa books every day. One day when I was reading Zhuan Falun, the following sentence came to me,
"When I held classes in other regions some things happened all the time. There'd always be some people who felt awful, and they'd be sitting there bent over their seats, they wouldn't get up, and they'd just wait for me to come down off the stage to heal them. But I wouldn't heal them. You can't even clear that hurdle, and later on when you cultivate on your own you are going to have a lot of big tribulations, so if you can't even clear this one, tell me, how are you going to cultivate? You can't even overcome that little thing? You can all definitely overcome those things." (The Second Talk, Zhuan Falun)
I realized that I would walk on my own, and I would go out to clarify the truth and save people.
A miracle happened after that thought. My physical strength magically recovered. My sister-in-law suggested that I use crutches. I knew that I shouldn't rely on any external help and I started to walk on my own legs. People couldn't believe their eyes: In less than two months I was walking again.
I immediately began to distribute truth-clarifying flyers to people. The police found out about it and tried to arrest me again. I was forced to leave home and travel away from my home town. I continued my effort in validating Dafa. Later I came back home. I asked myself, "Why do I have to leave home? I have done nothing wrong. How could I be afraid of the evil? I will live here. I will not run away again." During the day I often went to the street vendors and pass out truth-clarifying VCD's and clarified the truth to them. The local police and neighborhood association wanted to chase me out of my home, but their intimidation had no effect on me. To this day, I am still doing the three things Master told us to do: Study the Fa, send forth righteous thoughts and clarify the truth.

A retiree from Shandong Province who practices Falun Gong went to visit her hometown in 2002. On the way there by train, she explained the facts regarding the persecution of Falun Dafa to her fellow passengers. Some passengers were completely misinformed by the state-ran propaganda and didn't listen to her. A young person even questioned her with disgust. Then, the train came to a station. Two people got on and stood on a seat to place their luggage in the overhead bins. They dirtied the seat. The practitioner, without further hesitation, wiped the seat clean with her own hands. What she did seemed insignificant, but everyone saw it. The young person who questioned her earlier said immediately, "Why don't you hurry and wash your hands." After she came back, the young person held out a clean white washcloth, and said, "Please dry your hands." Then he asked her about the situation with Falun Dafa. The whole cabin listened, and they asked to see the flyers she was carrying. In this way she gave out the flyers immediately. She validated Dafa through her own actions.
One night I was working overtime. A nightclub called to report a drunkard making trouble. It was already midnight, so my co-worker and I went to the scene immediately. We brought the drunkard back to the police station. The fellow had been drinking a lot and cursed me with extremely dirty language. I kept a calm heart and my dignity intact. I clarified the truth to him when he was a bit more sober. He continued to stumble around from 2am until 5am; I didn't curse him once. After he became sober, I investigated why he was making trouble. When he found out that he had sworn at me, he said, "I respect you! I hope you won't seek vengeance!" I smiled and said, "I practice Falun Dafa, I won't seek vengeance. I just hope that you won't break the law again." He was deeply moved. Later we detained him for his offenses, and he took it wholeheartedly. Later, my coworkers said that I had discredited the police because I didn't get angry when the fellow cursed me. I wrote to my leader, "Will I bring credit to the police if I curse and beat a drunkard just because he got drunk and offended me? I investigated the reason for his offenses and punished him properly. Isn't that the best way to protect the dignity of a policeman?" After this, no one disagreed with me about the incident.
(Clearwisdom.net) I am a civil engineer. In the winter of 1987, I worked at a construction site in a foreign country. The local winter was usually rainy. That winter it kept raining and snowing for over 4 months without any sunshine. In addition, the shelters we lived in at the construction site were in very poor condition. After a few months I developed rheumatic fever and spondylitis. My shoulders were constantly freezing. It seemed that my entire back and shoulders were covered with a thick armor. They were often heavy, tight and sore. I suffered great pain.
After returning to China in the summer of 1988, I went to the hospital where my problem was diagnosed as spondylitis. I started searching for treatments. I visited many doctors, took Chinese medicine and western medicine, tried acupuncture, cupping, bloodletting, and chiropractic treatments. In short, I tried every remedy I could find. Not one of them worked. I even attended several Qigong classes with no significant results.
I was extremely fearful of the cold in winter. I had to put on heavy cotton clothing when others had not yet put on sweaters. It was even worse in summer. While other people wore short sleeve shirts with the air-conditioning on, I still had to wear long sleeve shirts and could not even stand to have a fan blowing. Since my office was air-conditioned, I was not able to stay there unless my officemates agreed to turn it off. I felt very guilty about being such a bother. Sometimes I could do nothing but ask to leave. I was just over 30 years old, but my physical condition was that of an old man. Life was extremely stressful for me.
After eight years of misery, in 1996, a friend introduced me to Falun Dafa. I started practicing. Since I had already practiced several other Qigong methods that did nothing, I didn't think it would do anything either. Just to check it out, I attended the group Fa study held in the Forestry College in Haidian District, Beijing on January 2, 1996. I got a chance to watch Teacher Li's lectures there. That was the first time I got to listen to them. The 9-day lecture and Fa studies answered a lot of questions for me. I gained so much from those lectures.
As soon as I began to study the Fa, Teacher Li started to purify my body. Every time I watched the lectures, I had a new reaction in my body. The places that originally did not sweat and frequently felt chilly became warm and started to sweat. The feeling of heaviness and pain in my shoulders and back kept diminishing. When I came back from the fifth lecture, I sweat a lot during sleep. After I awoke the next morning, I found that all the soreness, tightness, and heaviness in my body had disappeared. I stretched my arms and felt light throughout my whole body. What a miracle! The disease that I had suffered from for 7 to 8 years and that could not be cured by any major hospital was completely cured by Falun Dafa in 5 days. What a miracle! At that moment I truly believed in Falun Dafa and really appreciated Teacher Li.
Through studying Fa and doing the exercises, my physical condition today is totally different from what it was several years ago. Now, in the summer, I not only enjoy the cool air from the fan, I also feel comfortable with the air conditioner turned up to the coldest setting. Since I started practicing Falun Dafa, I haven't seen a doctor or taken any medicine. I have said goodbye to hospitals and bitter medicine. Not only am I free of suffering but I also save lots of money in medical bills for our country. In a physical examination arranged by my company, I was found to be completely normal in every respect. Falun Dafa gave me a healthy body, and, more important, it purified my heart.

The police constantly made harassing phone calls to her family, and her son often put pressure on her to stop cultivation because of his own fear of the persecution. One time her son had to leave the country but could not stop worrying. A few days before he left, he put a lot of pressure on her. He would not allow her to contact other practitioners.
Right before he left, she told him: "If someone gives you Dafa materials overseas, you must accept them and make sure you read them!" Her son did not reply. After the trip, her son had changed totally. He's changed his opinion on his mother's practicing Dafa and is willing to listen to her. He read the Dafa materials and books. He even read Master's newly released articles. He told his mother: "I know more truth than you do. I understand everything now, Falun Dafa is good."

A while ago, my sister-in-law got a CD and we all watched it. We knew exactly what happened. No one believes the propaganda on TV!"
(clearwisdom.net) After hearing that Wu Guanzheng was visiting Cyprus, practitioners from eight European countries, together with Australian citizens Dai Zhizhen and her daughter Fadu, traveled to Nicosia. Their purpose was to inform the Cypriot people about the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong in China and the evil crimes that Wu has committed against practitioners in Shandong province.
Human rights abuser Wu Guanzheng is currently a member of the Chinese Communist Party Politburo Standing Committee and has played a key role in the four-year campaign of persecution that has claimed the lives of at least 805 Falun Gong practitioners in China. During his time as Party leader of Shandong Province, he gave the orders "maintain sharp political vigilance" and "focus on cracking down on Falun Gong." The death cases of Chen Zixiu and Wang Lixuan, as well as her eight-month-old baby, are just three of the 92 documented murder cases in Shandong.
Falun Gong practitioners held a peaceful demonstration in front of the hotel where Wu was staying as well as in front of the Parliament where Wu was to visit. When police, security guards, media and other people learned the truth, they were shocked and all of them offered their support to Falun Gong practitioners.

With a smile on his face, the practitioner said "Falun Dafa Hao".

During the period of time when the program was being prepared, Chinese and western practitioners worked together and diligently cooperated with one another. This process is surely a cultivation process. Because of a shared sense of responsibility, everyone was silently striving forward. Western practitioners were in charge of applying for an operation permit for the program. Younger practitioners who are familiar with computers were responsible for the voice recording and other operating procedures. Some practitioners willingly spent their money on necessary equipment for the program. American practitioners also provided practitioners in Sweden with a one hour program that they had created.

October 25 was the Homecoming festival of the university and the annual Homecoming parade is part of the celebration. Because there is a football game in the afternoon, usually there will be thousands of visitors that day. So the Homecoming parade is a good opportunity to display the beauty of Falun Dafa to local Missourians and alumini from all over. As in previous years, the practitioners from St. Louis and Kansas came to help the local practitioners. The practitioners worked together to decorate the float.
The weather was not ideal, but the people were still excited about the parade. In the downtown area, the audience crowded the streets. When the Falun Gong float drove by, the audience gave them applause and smiles to show support. Some people pressed their hands together in "Heshi" to show their respect and many visitors took pictures of the float. A lot of Chinese students also came out to watch the parade. When they saw the Falun Gong float, they smiled and waved their hands to practitioners. Some of them took photos with our float as the background.
After the parade, a western young man found us and said he was on a business trip that happened to be in Columbia. He was very interested in Falun Gong and had read Zhuan Falun already. He was very excited to see the Falun Gong procession. That afternoon, he studied the Fa with the practitioners.
A western practitioner's parents who live in Columbia also watched the parade. On the phone, the father told her that the Falun Gong procession was beautiful, peaceful and serene, and was very effective in displaying the goodness of Falun Dafa. He said the English words "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance" on the banner impressed him very much. Seeing Falun Gong in the parade increased his desire to learn Falun Gong.

1. [Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province] Dafa Practitioner Wu Rongjie is Cruelly Tortured
In the evening of December 30, 2002, Dafa practitioner Mr. Wu Rongjie from Chaoyang City was arrested at the entrance of a fellow practitioner's building. Three policemen including Liu Guozheng, the deputy captain on duty from the Linghe Police Station and others from Shuangta District Police Department committed this illegal act. Both of Mr. Wu's hands were handcuffed to a bench at this station for a whole night. The next day they hung him by the wrists for a day at the Shuangta Police Department's National Security Team. Wu didn't cooperate with the police's demands. At 5:00 p.m., he was sent to Wujiawa's No.1 Detention Center. Mr. Wu caught a serious disease during his detention period, due to the deplorable hygienic conditions. On August 3, 2003, personnel from the Shuangta District Court secretly held court proceedings at the detention center without informing Wu's family members. There were over 20 policemen at the court. Wu Rongjie was carried to the court on a stretcher. They sentenced Wu to eight years of imprisonment. On September 15, 2003, Wu Rongjie was transferred to Shenyang City's Dabei Prison. On September 16, personnel from the Dabei Prison sent Wu back to Chaoyang City's No.1 Detention Center because of his serious health condition.

2. [Henan Province] Dafa Practitioners Hang Up Over 100 Truth-Clarifying Banners Prior to October 1st, China's National Day
During the evening of September 28, Dafa practitioners in a city in Henan Province hung up over 100 truth-clarifying banners at the main intersections in a suburban area. The banners said, "Falun Dafa is Good," "Falun Dafa is the Righteous Fa," "Restore My Teacher's Reputation," "Jiang Zemin is Being Sued". The banners remained for three days.
3. [Suizhong County, Liaoning Province] Nine Dafa Practitioners Are Detained at a Brainwashing Class
1). The following nine Dafa practitioners are being held at a brainwashing class in Suizhong County, Huludao City: Ms. Huang Shujian, Ms. Jin Xiaoyan, Ms. Xu Chunxiang, Mr. Li Shidong, Wu Baohua, Mr. Xing Shidong, Ms. Qin Xiuyu, a practitioner from Huangdi Town (name unknown) and a practitioner from Yejia Township (name unknown).
The brainwashing class, which is budgeted for over 100,000 Yuan,* is conducted by Liu Zhongli, director of Suizhong County's Political and Judiciary Committee. It's located at Xing City's Wuqi Sanitarium. The authorities attempted to arrest 23 Dafa practitioners, but as some practitioners resisted their illegal actions, in the end they took away only nine of the practitioners. Some practitioners had to leave their homes and live in exile. At present, three practitioners are on a hunger strike. The authorities claimed they would sentence them to forced labor.

Soon after, the police from Xichang City Police Department and the Xincun Police Precinct, along with the team leader who was in charge of Gu Chenglian's family area, ransacked Gu Chenglian's home. Now the two practitioners are being detained at the Xichang City Detention Center, and they are refusing food and water to protest the illegal persecution. Their lives are currently in critical danger. It was said that the Xincun Police Precinct plotted to send Li Zhonghui's case to an upper government echelon for further persecution.

Personnel from Xichang City "610 Office**" in Liangshan, Sichuan Province are holding a brainwashing class. Before October 1, 2003, during September 24th to the 26th, personnel from the Xichang City "610 Office" again forcibly arrested Dafa practitioners from home and sent them into a brainwashing class. Some of these Dafa practitioners are Ms. Cheng Donglan, Ms. Wang Xiaofang, Ms. Tang Zhongxiu and Zhang Yuwen, who live at 410 Factory's Residential Area. Other are two older women, both with the surname Chen, from the State Hospital and Food Bureau, respectively. Also taken were Ms. Mei and Hu Ronghuai, a worker from out of town. The brainwashing class is located at Xichang City's Xining Technical School. They have not yet been released as of October 18th. Furthermore, no family member is allowed to see them. 14. [Zhoukou City, Henan Province] Karmic Retribution for Lawless Policemen in Zhoukou City Detention Center
Lawless policemen Wu Gang, Liu Xitian and three others from Zhoukou City Detention Center in Henan Province treated Dafa practitioners unmercifully. Once, when Dafa practitioner Mr. Du Ziliang made a mistake when reporting his number, Wu Gang dragged him out and brutally beat him up. He shouted, "You are intentionally making trouble." Besides maintaining their authority with violence, they also extorted money from detained practitioners and their families. In order to get some material advantage from prisoners, they even help prisoners pass information and allow them to use their cell phones to communicate with outsiders. Thus, three prisoners escaped in August 2003, and several guards have been detained. There are three other policemen in Zhoukou City Detention Center torturing Dafa practitioners: Yu Fashun, Huang Jinsuo and Kang.

Feng Songmao, the associate supervisor for Yingyang City Political and Judiciary Committee in Henan Province, Zheng Feng, head of the city's "610 Office" and the Political and Security Section of the city's police department are extremely vicious. They illegally arrested, detained, fined and sentenced Dafa practitioners and sent practitioners to forced labor camps. They tied female practitioners to a tree and beat them. They deny the practitioners sleep. Rain soaked the practitioners' clothes and created problems during the women's menstrual periods. Though a woman who was over 70 years old got a high fever, she was wrapped in a quilt and sent to a detention center. They also let dogs loose in brainwashing classes to bite Dafa practitioners. Furthermore, they ransacked practitioners' houses and fined them. Their persecution broke apart many practitioners' families.

On the evening of September 10th, policemen arrested Dafa practitioner Ms. Mu Chunming in the Lingdong Office of Wangfangdian City. Furthermore, another practitioner, Ms. Zhang, who just retired several days ago, was also arrested.
17. [Shulan City, Jilin Province] Personnel from the City's Illegal "610 Office" Force Dafa Practitioners' Families and Units to Register Practitioners
Recently, in collusion with local police precincts, Shulan City's "610 Office" in Jilin Province arrest some Dafa practitioners. They also forced practitioners' unit leaders and family members to supply practitioners' ID and photo to register them at the police precincts.
* 500 Yuan, approximately US$ 63.00, is the average monthly income in urban areas of China. The monthly income in rural areas is considerable less.
* The "610 Office" is a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well all other political and judiciary systems.

(Clearwisdom.net) A "solemn declaration" is a person's public statement declaring to the world that whatever he or she has done or said under duress or deception that was against Falun Dafa is null and void. Most of these statements have come from Falun Dafa practitioners in China who wished to express regret that, in the face of physical torture and brainwashing, they had signed documents renouncing Dafa and guaranteeing not to practice again. Also, as more and more people in China learn the truth about how they have been deceived and lied to by the Jiang regime, many non-practitioners are also submitting "solemn declarations."

BEIJING, Oct 30 (AFP) - China plans to set up a national surveillance system for Internet cafes and let a small number of companies run most of them, in a move that was immediately criticized as yet another attempt at online control.
Measures to "standardize" the management of Internet cafes are already in place in two provinces in southwest China, and the whole nation will be covered by 2005, the Beijing Morning Post reported.
"We are actively pushing an 'Internet cafe technology management system,' requiring the whole nation to adopt the same standard and each province the same software," said Liu Yuzhu, a culture ministry official.
The paper did not give details about how the software would enhance control over what people watch in the country's 110,000 Internet cafes.
However, media watchdog Reporters Without Borders said it would make it possible to collect personal data on Internet users, store a record of the webpages they visit, and alert authorities when they view unlawful content.
The culture ministry also plans to introduce the chainstore concept into the business, letting up to 100 companies run the vast majority of Internet cafes, the paper said.
Reporters Without Borders said the new measures could serve as a model for other repressive governments.
"By putting the Internet cafes under the management of a few, partly state-owned companies and by standardizing the surveillance equipment installed by the chain stores, the Chinese authorities are making it easier to censor the Internet," said Robert Menard, the group's secretary general.
There were roughly 68 million Internet users in China at the end of June, putting the world's most populous nation second behind the United States in terms of people online.
The Internet explosion is both a blessing and a curse for the Chinese government, which wants people to be more tech-savvy without absorbing too many foreign ideas or spreading subversive messages online.
Internet users are frequently jailed for posting articles critical of the government.
China has formulated a policy of developing the Internet while concurrently limiting the content of Chinese sites and restricting access to some foreign cites.
The government passed a law last year that places the burden of responsibility for content on Internet access providers.
