one Chinese Trinity College student

Li Xuechun, a 63 year-old, male, was a cadre of the Macheng City Light Industry Bureau. In 1999, Li went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa according to the permitted laws and consequently was arrested and detained illegally for more than 10 months. During the detention, this healthy old man with a ruddy complexion was tortured so severely that he became just skin and bones; even walking became extremely difficult for him. He was released for one month and had not yet recovered, when he was once again illegally arrested for distributing Dafa truth clarifying literature. In the Gulou Police Substation he was tortured on a bench for 36 hours [a torture method where the victim's legs are tied down to a bench while bricks are inserted under the tied legs, causing excruciating pain]. Six groups of police personnel took turns interrogating him. During the whole process, Li was not given any food and was not allowed to sleep. Facing the evil, this respected old man never yielded. When the police realized that they could get nowhere having used all means of torture, they illegally detained Li for a further three months. In December of 2000, after having suffered numerous brutal tortures, Li passed away.
One policeman of the Gulou Police Substation, while beating a female practitioner, shouted "Do you think we take you as human beings? We absolutely do not treat you as a human being. What big deal is it if you are dead? Your death is worth even less than the death of a pig or dog. A dead dog is worth tens of dollars, but your death is worth nothing. Li Xuechun is dead, what's the big deal? ..." The practitioner being beaten was in her sixties. The police were beating and kicking her while cursing until she passed out. They then poured cold water over her. As soon as she came to, they continued to kick and beat her with rubber batons. When she fell to the ground, the police pulled her up by her hair and smashed her head against the wall. The police left her body black and blue from the beating.
Every practitioner arrested by the Gulou Police Substation was subjected to savage torture. They were stripped of their clothes and shackled outside [where they were sunburned in the summer and frozen in the winter], then they were brutally beaten: their bodies were trampled upon by boots and burned with cigarettes; their eyes were smeared with tiger balm [Note: an analgesic ointment for sore muscles that burns the skin causing it to become very hot. Putting this in someone's eyes is extremely cruel and excruciatingly painful.] Some of these practitioners were sent to labor camps; some were sentenced to jail terms.
Not long ago, the Gulou Police Substation demolished the houses of two practitioners. Practitioner Hu Jianjun was sent to the labor camp by police, leaving his 10 year-old child unattended.
Here we admonish the police of the Gulou Police Substation, who have helped Jiang Zemin to do evil: Wake up! Stop persecuting Dafa practitioners, as you will soon receive retribution from heaven.

Sun Yalan was a female practitioner from Hegang City, Heilongjiang province. On March 30, 2000, acting on orders from Wang Guoqi, the director of the Xinjiang Street, Xinan District police station, policeman Li Laiquan arrested her while she was at work and illegally confined her to a detention center. Ten days after her hunger strike, she was released because she was dying. One month later, she died as a result of the severe physical torture and mental abuse she received while in police custody.

(Clearwisdom.net) People see pictures of Tan Yongjie, knowing that cruel tortures were inflicted upon him. Even so prepared, they are still shocked. More than fifty days ago, officers in a labor camp in China branded him with a hot iron bar, deeply burning him over a dozen times on his legs. Despite these extensive third-degree burns, he not only survived but also managed to escape, crossing an ocean and half a continent, alone. His courageous and miraculous arrival here in the heart of the United States has amazed many people.
How can a person endure such cruel torture? While his bladder refused to hold urine because of the severe burns on his legs, what supported him? When we asked him this, he told us, "Falun Dafa is a righteous practice. Believing in Falun Dafa is not wrong. How can we give up our belief simply because of vicious persecution?" He refused to respond whenever a Chinese officer or captain beat him, tortured him, or threatened him. No order of theirs could force him to write the "repentance statement." Tan said, "The only response I would allow myself to give was the refusal. Since I didn't want to respond, I just kept silence." His firm belief in Falun Dafa gave him the extraordinary will to persevere even under tremendous pain.
After the branding, the captains on guard saw both his legs were too badly injured for movement. Tan was ordered to watch the labor camp's orchard. Even Tan Yongjie himself didn't believe he could escape. He said, "The farm land was large. Indeed it was hard to run away. I didn't know where I got the courage to run away the second night of watching (June 3). At that time, it was very difficult for me to walk. I used a wooden stick as a crutch and by hobbling on my injured legs left the farm. I could barely walk a mile each night. During the day, I worried about being chased, so I hid myself in the brush, and ate a few broken pieces of sugarcane left by mice. Then I walked again at night. On June 5, I got onto a tractor and finally left that hell-hole."
He hid that day in a deserted construction. An opening came: he climbed into a cargo truck, and later found himself in Hong Kong. Tan knew that, badly injured as he was, he couldn't stay long. He wanted to get onto a ship and leave China. Otherwise he might be seized and sent back. A few attempts from one wharf proved he would not be able to simply walk aboard. He put some bread and water in a plastic bag and sneaked onto a cargo ship. For two weeks, he would battle the pain and danger of his untreated burns, and the nausea of sea-sickness and hunger.
To avoid discovery, he stayed inside the full cargo-hold. It was pitch black, grimy, and humid. The ocean waves jerked the ship unpredictably in all directions. Tan found himself jolting and wobbling beyond reckoning. His brain stayed in a semi-conscious condition for long period of time. The thunder of the shifting metal cargo containers woke him momentarily from this stupor. Meanwhile, though, the dozen blistered burns tormented him. He said, "Had I not cultivated Falun Dafa, I could absolutely not have imagined surviving. During the days in the ship, since I couldn't practice my exercises, I just tried to keep myself calm as if I were doing the exercises, and kept remembering paragraphs in Zhuan Falun."
The contest of will against circumstance intensified. Even rationed out miserly, his food and water ran out in the last few days. Just as Tan was about to collapse from exhaustion, the ship docked in port. Getting off was a struggle, even walking was a great difficulty, but he made it to dry land. After such long darkness and unsteadiness, Tan almost fainted from the strength of the sunshine. His lips shed off two layers of skin while a kind driver brought him from Los Angeles towards Florida, dropping him off in Houston. When we first saw him in Houston Park Plaza Hospital, amnesia from the built-up trauma still blocked most of his memory of the past two months.
We visit him often as his amnesia eases. He is very happy for the company of fellow Falun Gong practitioners. He is easy-going, gentle, and kind to others no matter how he has been treated. He continues to take his injuries, pains, and near-fatal tribulations lightly, with no concern for money or fame. He had greatly impressed the local people who have met him, whether policemen, doctors, nurses, charity organization personnel, social workers, or fellow practitioners.
Because of his miraculous experience and his forgiveness, many people want to help Tan Yongjie not just out of sympathy, but from deep attraction to his spirit and unusual will. His compassion, tolerance, and positive spirit are shared visibly by countless Falun Gong practitioners despite the vicious abuse he has suffered. By contrast, those inflicting injury on Falun Gong practitioners and supporters, through malicious slander, propaganda, and torture, have completely revealed their evil, their corruption, and their deviation. Practitioners have thus won people's hearts and their respect and admiration towards Falun Dafa.

ZHAO MING arrived in Dublin from China on St Patrick's Day 1999 to take up a postgraduate course in computer science at Trinity College. He was never to complete his studies. A visit home in December that year led to his arrest and incarceration at a forced labour camp outside the Chinese capital, Beijing. Fourteen months later he is still there.
Ming's only crime was his daily practise of the meditative art form, Falun Gong, which was outlawed in China as an "[Jiang Zemin government's slanderous term omitted]" in July I999. Since then the Chinese government has arrested, imprisoned and allegedly tortured over 50,000 followers.
People of all ages have been sent for "re-education" and to forced labour camps around China. Those practicing abroad are exiled and their families intimidated.
Ming's many friends in Dublin have heard nothing of his physical or mental condition since he was taken to Tuan-He labour camp last May.
Up to two million people are picked up under some form of "administrative custody" every year. At least 5% of them are children, according to the Human Rights in China group based in the US.
Practitioners of Falun Gong - which involves breathing exercises and maintaining the principles of truthfulness, compassion and forbearance - are among one of the most heavily repressed groups under the [party' name omitted] regime.
"He is very clever and he was able to lose the police and mingle among friends because he knew the city"
Dai Dongxue (34) a Microsoft employee runs Falun Gong classes in Trinity and hasn't had her passport renewed by the Chinese embassy. She is now all too aware that she would be arrested as an important "[Jiang Zemin government's slanderous term omitted]" if she was to return home.
"Ming's passport was confiscated on his arrival home and he was followed by government agents as a suspected member of Falun Gong," explained Dai.
"He is very clever, though, and because he had studied and worked in Beijing for over 10 years he was able to lose the police and mingle among friends because he knew the city," she said.
It wasn't until Ming needed to get a job that the authorities caught up with him early last year.
"There was no sign of him for several months until his family traced him to a labour camp outside Beijing," said Dai.
According to reports, Ming has been beaten by guards using electric batons and only allowed two hours sleep a day. His captors also tried to force him to write anti-Falun Gong material.
Falun Gong sources claim that torture at the detention camps has led to 140 deaths since their faith was banned in July 1999".
The Beijing government denies that any torture occurs but admits that many Falun Gong members have died while in prison.
Dai and Ming made their last visit home in December 1999, two weeks apart but both were very aware of the dangers.
"I was very scared going through the customs into China," explained Dai. "My hands were sweating because I was told if they discovered or suspected you practised Falun Gong you would be arrested.
"We all just wanted to go home and see what was happening because we were hearing these horrible reports from our families and friends."
Ming was introduced to Falun Gong by his mother in 1994. Two months before his return to China he hosted a Falun Gong exhibition at the Mind, Body and Spirit convention for alternative healing at the RDS in Dublin.
"I introduced Ming to Ireland because I felt it was a nice, peaceful country with a lot of greenery which would be very suitable to practise in," said Dai.
"Before the ban almost every green patch in Beijing and other cities around China were used as meditation centres," she said. "There were two practise sites five minutes from my home and every day there would be 50-60 people meditating in the morning - now they are empty."
"I am never sorry I discovered this even though a lot of terrible things are happening"
While Dai is living and working in Ireland without a valid passport, her family in China have been persecuted due to their involvement with Falun Gong.
"My brother has been detained and tortured several times. One of my sisters has spent three years in a labour camp. Another sister escaped when police tried to arrest her at her job," said Dai. "She was very brave, she jumped from a third-floor window in her workplace and some people on the street helped her escape. She had to leave home and has been wandering around like a homeless person ever since.
"The [party' name omitted] party wants to control our minds. When I was in school I was taught that [party' name omitted] was the absolute truth of the world and that there were no other options. I don't want to go back right now because I would be arrested. If that happened I couldn't help anybody so I am of more use outside."
Despite her exile and her family's persecution, Dai has no regrets about being part of a spiritual movement she only took up five years ago.
"A man was sitting opposite me on a train two weeks before I came to Ireland in 1996," she said. "I was reading Qigong of which Falun Gong is a part. He asked me if I was interested in the latter and gave me a book which I read while travelling to Ireland."
Leaving behind the harsh regime of Chinese [party' name omitted] the book's principles of "truthfulness, compassion and forbearance", stated as the "characteristics of the universe which all lives should follow" appealed to Dai.
"I am never sorry I discovered this even though a lot of terrible things are happening. I still believe that was a lucky day in my life on the train," she said. "I used to have migraine and my neck and back were always tired. After all sorts of medicine Falun Gong was the only thing that helped me."
Human-rights campaigners such as Amnesty International are highlighting the plight of people like Ming and cases such as 28-year-old Li Mei who reportedly died of injuries sustained at the Hefei women's labour camp. Her family were not allowed to examine her body.
An Amnesty International report earlier this year claimed that out of the 120 Falun Gong deaths it has looked into, 17 jumped to their death, according to official reports, and 15 "fell" while in detention.
The group's study also revealed evidence of force feeding carried out by people with no medical training, resulting in damage to the windpipe and other physical complications.
Ming's future remains very uncertain. According to Dai, he might be released if enough pressure is put on the Chinese government by international powers or "he might stay there forever".
She has raised the issue with Irish Foreign Minister Brian Cowen whose department is now studying her case and that of, Ming. However, even in the face of worldwide criticism and globally-documented instances of torture and systematic repression, the Chinese government remains defiant.
According to state propaganda, Falun Gong is a politically motivated movement with the aim of overthrowing the Chinese government. However, no evidence of any such conspiracy amongst it's practitioners has been produced.
The government reported that over 1,000 women followers of Falun Gong were successfully "re-educated" through a "labour institute" in February.
"The president said he would have Falun Gong eliminated within three months but that was 20 months ago," said Dai.
In April 1999, on foot of increasing persecutions in the run up to a total ban, a peaceful rally was staged outside the leadership's headquarters next to the Forbidden City in Beijing.
More than 10,000 devotees, ordinary people, pensioners, housewives, even [party' name omitted] party members surrounded the president's HQ. The event went off peacefully but the persecutions continued.
China's poor human-rights record has once again come under the international spotlight as the country bids to stage the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Delegates from the International Olympic Committee have already been led through the polished streets of Beijing, but are they prepared to overlook the harsh undercurrent of a system that denies people the right to practise their faith?
[Clearwisdom.net] During the last two years of brutal persecution, there have been more than 250 practitioners known to have died from torture. However, who knows how many more people who stopped practicing Falun Dafa under the ruthless pressure, have been killed by the invisible butcher knife of Jiang Zemin? Here is the case of He Xuyan from Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province. Let us see how she died under the invisible knife of Jiang Zemin and his criminal gang.
He Xuyan was a 38-year-old single woman with a son. She worked in the computer department of Daqing City Second Hospital. In 1997, she was diagnosed with liver cancer and was facing death. She had a surgery in a hospital in Shanghai City on October 28 of the same year. The surgery took away part of her liver but brought her other problems - splenomegaly [enlargement of the spleen] and cholelithiasis [gallbladder disease], as well as a debt of 30,000 Yuan. The threat of death and burden of debt stayed with her after surgery. Looking at her aged mother and young son, she wept every day. She struggled under the heavy pressure and cried in her heart - Heaven, Please send me a way...
One month after the surgery, she attained the Fa. She freed herself from the fear of death and started her bright new life. Her hospital ward mates died one after another. She was the only one who survived and lived a healthy life. In 1998, she went back to the hospital for a medical check-up and everything was normal. No one believed that she had previously been near death with liver cancer. She had gained weight and her face glowed with a healthy color. She was full of energy and went back to work again. In 1999, she paid off all her debts. In "The Medical Survey of 200 Daqing Falun Dafa Practitioners", she wrote, "Teacher Li saved me from death, so I, a former patient of liver cancer, can live forever."
While she was full of hope for the future, Jiang Zemin's unprecedented persecution of Falun Dafa started in July 1999. Her company placed her into custody. She was forced to give up the practice and to slander Dafa; otherwise she would be fired and put into jail. Against her own will, she wrote a statement to give up the practice and some unfavorable words towards Dafa. The saved life was thus destroyed in the persecution. Afterwards, she truly gave up the practice due to fear. Soon the ominous symptoms of the cancer recurred. At the end of 1999, she went back to the hospital in Shanghai City and had another surgery to remove the cancer. Lying on the bed, she thought over and over, "Why won't the authorities allow me to live? To me, giving up my practice means giving up my life. No, I want to live." She started practicing Falun Dafa after she left the hospital. Again a miracle happened to her and she recovered. She thanked Teacher in her heart, "Teacher, my savior, I must step forward for Dafa to say a just word."
On a day in early June 2000, He Xuyan bravely went to the park near her home to practice the Falun Gong exercises. She was arrested and sent to the local police station. The threats from the company and police, the tears from her mother and child, the fears of facing the huge amount of fines and possible detention made her retreat. She wrote the renouncement statement and quit practicing again. Soon the disease came back. At the end of 2000, she was near death. When a family member asked her what she wanted, she answered, "I want to go to Beijing. I'm sorry to Teacher and to Dafa. I betrayed my heart again and again. I want to say "Falun Dafa is good" at Tiananmen Square before I die." To fulfill her wish, she took the train to Beijing.
In the early morning, shortly after sunrise, she raised the banner of "Falun Dafa is Good." at Tiananmen Square. The sound of "Falun Dafa is good." resounded in the sky. She was sent back to the local police station and fined 10,000 Yuan. Soon after accomplishing her wish, she left this world with deep regret and depression. Before she died, she asked to listen to the Dafa music Pudu. She passed away quietly in the sound of the benevolent and serene music.
She left her young son and aged mother behind. Whenever her mother saw Dafa practitioners, she cried intensely. Her tears are the silent accusation of killers Jiang Zemin and his followers.
Although she died without a bloody body covered with scars and bruises like many other practitioners, she was still a sacrifice under the butcher knife of Jiang Zemin. Dafa saved her when she was dying. Jiang Zemin and his followers don't care whether you live or die, as they want your statement to renounce Falun Dafa. If you don't renounce, they send you to jail. In the past two years of the brutal persecution, more than 250 practitioners have been tortured to death. Who knows how many people like He Xuyuan, have been pushed into death? It is far beyond 250 lives.
We earnestly admonish Jiang Zemin, as a killer and demon, "People are awakening. Your trial is coming!"
(Clearwisdom.net) My husband is a Dafa practitioner from Japan. In 1993 when we were getting married, he told me that in one of his reincarnations he was a Buddhist monk in the Tang Dynasty, who met me in Japan and we cultivated together the whole life as teacher and student and as friends. I, however, have no memory of this. He started his cultivation in Dafa one year after I attained the Fa. Here I'd like to share his understanding and stories in cultivation.
Treasure the Predestined Relationship of Dafa Cultivation
I attained the Fa after reading reports in Taiwan about the "April 25" peaceful appeal in 1999. After I attained the Fa, he started to tell me that in history many people have instinctively realized that the human world was not their real home, but they could not find a genuine Master to guide them, and eventually could not attain the Tao. Seeing the great changes in me shortly after I started cultivation, he was shaken by the mighty virtue of Dafa and Teacher, and respected Dafa and Teacher wholeheartedly. After seeing the Falun emblem, he realized this was the shiny golden round thing he had been seeing from his childhood to middle school. Nonetheless, he didn't start to study the Fa or learn the exercises; instead, he told me to make diligent advancement in cultivation. I often told him the principles of Dafa and shared with him my understanding of the Fa and my cultivation experiences. Although he didn't come into the door of Dafa cultivation, he and I were learning and cultivating together under guidance of the Dafa principles.
About one year after I started cultivation, he started to read the book. One day he told me emotionally with tears in his eyes "Do you think that I don't want to obtain this Fa? But you don't know that once a person opens the book and reads Teacher's Fa, Teacher starts to endure for him. It is my own karma, how can I let Teacher endure for me? In history, cultivators had to pay back every bit of their karma by themselves. The reason why cultivators make progress so fast in Dafa is because Teacher Li endures for you. But I should pay back my own karma." I was rendered speechless upon hearing this from him, someone who was not yet a Dafa practitioner. I gained a better understanding on how to seriously treat my cultivation and cherish the predestined relationship of cultivating in Dafa. In addition, this allowed me to understand more why the old forces feel it unfair about Dafa disciples' cultivation and create all sorts of obstacles. Later my husband started to study the Fa because he broke through his initial thinking and realized that Teacher saving people is to let people obtain the Fa and return to their original true selves. I encouraged him to be a genuine Dafa disciple, he replied, however, that whether someone is a genuine disciple or not can only be determined by Teacher. He (my husband) does not acknowledge those students who casually claim themselves Dafa disciples; he thinks many only speak grandly.
High Level Beings Commit Crimes of Persecuting Dafa
He became more conscious during cultivation and realized that at the beginning he decided to come down here because he had found that things were not right in the level where he stayed in the universe. Other beings at the same level, however, did not believe this and many didn't come down. Several months ago these beings came to find him since they found that their living environment had been changed. They felt in danger, and asked him what had really happened. He explained to them Teacher's Fa rectification and told them to definitely believe it and not do anything unfavorable towards Dafa. He also urged them to spread the Fa to other beings and do it as soon as possible.
Shortly afterwards, when we were watching Teacher's Fa lecture videos, he told me that a large number of high level beings were standing behind him listening to the Fa with us. After finishing watching the video, we wanted to take a rest, but those beings didn't want to leave, and told him that they wanted to listen more. He said he had to go to work the next day and he could not stay up the whole night listening to the Fa. The following days he told me that more and more high level beings stood behind him, countless, they formed a boundless stretch, listening to the Fa. While listening some looked very pain-stricken and struggled, as if they sensed that they had done something wrong; some looked stupefied yet very desperate; some were listening calmly. Within a week, he surprisingly told me that many beings standing behind him had turned into stone statues, which looked no different from death; those who committed crimes against Dafa have positioned themselves and received their retribution.
Send Forth Righteous Thoughts to Eliminate the Evil
Even before he started the cultivation, he often told me experiences of eliminating demons. He said most of the demons just come to court death, who "died after seeing the light." He could eliminate three to four hundred per day. He would tell me the detailed numbers. I asked why he counted the number; he said most demons came in a long line, as if waiting in line to die. They carried a number board in their hands, so he knew clearly how many he eliminated each day. Sometimes however, a big demon came and he had to fight. He believes that in a certain dimension in the universe, eliminating demons was his duty, since he did it naturally and instinctively. When I told him about Teacher's new article that disciples sending forth righteous thoughts can assist Teacher to eliminate the evil, his personal understanding and experience was that, we shouldn't have any impure thoughts or fear while doing it; there is no need to think how to eliminate or how to be effective, just focus on eliminating the evil and recite Teacher's phrases, that will be incomparably powerful. As for the most vicious chieftain (chief demon), that being has died long ago and there's nothing worth saying.
(Clearwisdom. net) Amidst the tribulations imposed by the evil forces, amidst the Fa rectification, and amidst the process of my assimilation to Dafa [the great law and principle of the universe], I have come to realize, to a much greater and clearer extent, the evil's extreme fear of the Buddha Fa's power of compassion. The power of benevolence can rectify anything that is not righteous and bring to lives a serene, harmonious and pleasant state of mind.
In June 2000, I was illegally detained for the second time. At that time, I was put into the same cell with seven "Misses" (i.e., prostitutes) and I was the only Dafa practitioner in there. Initially, I held some prejudice against them and didn't want to tell them about Dafa. Gradually, however, I began to feel pity for them and started to share some cultivation stories with them. Later on, more Dafa practitioners were locked in our cell, so, together we recited Dafa articles and told them (the prostitutes) that they should live open and positive lives. They listened to us quite attentively. Then one of them said, "I want to cry every time I hear you reciting "True Cultivation" [Teacher Li's article]. From that point on, they were very kind to us and were very willing to listen to me. So I asked them to get rid of some of their bad habits, such as cursing and smoking. To my surprise, they indeed stopped cursing and smoking. They also studied the Fa [Law and universal principles] together with us. Sometimes, they could even point out our shortcomings from the perspective of Dafa. On the day I was released, they said, "We would really hate to see you go, had this not been a detention center." The power of the great compassion of the Buddha Fa enabled people who had gone astray to recall the beauty (of life), and helped people who had lost their faith in life to see the hope of a bright future.
On October 1, 2000, [Chinese Independence Day], I went to Beijing again to validate Dafa. I was arrested in Tiananmen Square and detained at the Xicheng District Detention Center in Beijing. One police officer interrogated me many times and beat me, but I still refused to give them my name and address, or to sign a so-called interrogation record. He felt very frustrated. The next day, another policeman came in with a fierce look on his face and an aggressive attitude. He first made some hypocritical remarks (intended to soften me). Seeing that they didn't work on me, he became exasperated and threatened to burn Teacher Li's portrait. When he saw that I was not moved, he started to scold me loudly, saying, "You're a phony. In the past when other practitioners heard that I planned to burn the portrait of your Teacher, they would cry and kneel down and beg us, saying that they would tell us anything they were asked. So obviously you're a fake." I replied calmly, "Teacher said, 'The disciple who can understand the Fa according to the Fa is on the way towards consummation; the attachment of ordinary people's sentimentality to Dafa is a mountain on the way'." [unofficial translation] Although he did not fully understand what I said, he realized that his tactic had failed. He then cursed and threatened me even more ferociously, even threatening me with death. I didn't want to listen. I said to Teacher determinedly in my heart, "Teacher, what I can offer you is not tears, but my life." When he got tired of cursing, I looked at him straight in the eye with a kind smile and said, "If I was thinking of myself, I would not be standing here and talking to you right now, also, I didn't have to come to Beijing." He seemed to be shocked. He stopped cursing and we stared at each other for a minute. Then, he began pacing back and forth. Suddenly, he blurted out, "You are so great, why don't you save me..." I smiled and started to promote Dafa to him. At that moment, I really felt that the entire room was filled with my compassion. The ferocious look on his face was fading away. In the end, he listened to my words like a child. From then on, he didn't make any more trouble for me. On the day of my release, on grounds of proven innocence, he repeated the same sentence to me over and over, "When you go back, you can practice (Falun Gong) whenever you want." I was pleased to see him change. I knew it was my determination in Dafa after giving up everything and my compassion toward his life that had shook him.á
Compassion reflects the great power of the Buddha Law. It comes from my righteous understanding of Dafa from the microscopic level of my life, and from having a genuine understanding of the meaning of life. Compassion will constantly grow and become more substantial during the process of one's assimilation to Dafa. Compassion will be omnipotent and able to destroy any evil when you let go of yourself. á

1. [Harbin, Heilongjiang Province] More than 40 Falun Dafa Practitioners Hunger Strike for Unconditional Release from the Changlinzi Labor Camp
Sources say that over 40 Falun Dafa practitioners have been on hunger strike since July 3, 2001, in protest of extended detention terms. In a prior hunger strike, jail officers agreed to release on the condition of practitioners ending the strike. However, when the hunger strike ended, the officers reneged on their promise. In response, practitioners re-started the hunger strike. As of July 24, there have been two force-feedings. The strikers lay still on their beds virtually all day long. Their lives are in danger.
2. [Pinggu County, Beijing] The Cruelty of the Police: "Another death is no matter" "You will be a nameless corpse if you die"
I went to Beijing to validate Dafa on June 30. Just because I said, "Falun Dafa is good! Restore the reputation of our Teacher! ...," the police arrested me. Since I did not violate the law, I refused to tell my name and address. I was sent to Pinggu Criminal Team in the evening and soon began a huger strike in protest of the illegal detention. On the afternoon of July 3, two persons, one male and another female, entered my cell. The policeman on duty told me that the man was the director of the Public Security Bureau. The director spoke, "If you do not report your name and address, we will not release you even if you die from hunger. There have been so many who died here; it is nothing to have another death." The woman said, "You will be a nameless corpse if you die and we'll just throw your body in the mountains. You want this?" I shook my head and said, "I am not afraid." The woman cursed and left.
3. [Macheng, Hubei Province] A female Nurse Sent to Mental Hospital
A 48-year-old female nurse, Dong Shuzhen, was detained in April when she attempted to withdraw money from her bank account. Police accused her of planning to go to Beijing to appeal and sent her to a mental hospital. Not being able to bear the thought of her torture, Dong's brother wrote a "letter of guarantee" on her behalf in exchange for her release. On May 28, Dong declared in writing that her brother's letter was invalid, as she had not written it. The local Party Secretary sent her to the mental hospital a second time. She refused to cooperate. Local Security Office Director, Zhao Macheng and several other men beat her and dragged her to the mental hospital, where they continued to savagely beat her. As of this writing, Dong is in the hospital and her condition is unknown.

4. [Wuhan, Hubei Province] Falun Dafa Practitioner Kidnapped by Police; Possibly Killed
Female Falun Dafa practitioner Chen Jingchun started practicing Falun Dafa in April 1999. Because she persisted in her practice after the crackdown, she was wanted by the Wuhan Public Security Bureau, Section One. She had to leave her home to go into hiding. The Bureau often dispatched police cars to patrol by her house. The police and street committee men often inquired about her whereabouts, to the point of disrupting her neighborhood.
One day, policemen visited Chen's mother and identified themselves as the teachers of Chen's child. They entered the house and searched everywhere. Finally they showed their Public Security badges and told her mother that Chen had jumped from a building and had multiple bone fractures. Police arrested her in a supermarket and sent her to a police hospital for treatment. Chen's mother inquired at the police hospital and then other big hospitals for her daughter's condition but found no answers. She requested help in inquiring after the situation and eventually heard that an internal Public Security Bureau notice stated that Chen had died on April 30. At the time of this writing, Chen's death has not been confirmed. Chen's mother is often followed and her telephone is being monitored.
5. [Handan, Hebei Province] Three Practitioners from the Machinery and Electric Institute Are Sent to a Brainwashing Class
On the morning of July 24, 2001, three Falun Gong practitioners, Chen Jingxiang, Qi Guilin and Li Jiagong, who were employees of the Machinery and Electric Institute of Handan City, Hebei Province, were taken from their homes by officials from the "610 office" and co-workers from their working unit as well as police from local police station. They were sent to a brainwashing class in Linzhang County, Hebei Province.
6. [Jime, Shangdong Province] "610 Office" Searches and Arrests Falun Gong Practitioners
In order to search and arrest Falun Gong practitioners, officers from the "610 Office" of Jime City, Shangdong Province, posted "public notices" with practitioners' photos everywhere in the city, offering a money reward to anyone reporting Falun Gong practitioners.
7. [Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province] Officer of Shijiazhuang City Arranges More Persecution of Falun Gong practitioners
An officer in charge of the Falun Gong issue in Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province, announced the start of a campaign called "digging deeply and striking seriously" against Falun Gong. All people who ever practiced Falun Gong are to be reinvestigated. Anyone not clearly "reformed" is to be sent to a brainwashing class. Practitioners who are arrested for distributing truth-clarifying materials are not to be released. Between now and September all rental houses are to be registered.
Recently two practitioners' houses were suddenly searched and some Dafa books and materials and a computer were confiscated. Police arrested those two practitioners and illegally detained them.
We are warning these policemen, "Don't blindly follow evil. Otherwise you will receive retribution."
8. [Herbin, Heilongjiang Province] Practitioner Yang Tian Under House Confinement after Brainwashing Class
According to an insider, on March 9, 2001, Falun Gong practitioner Yang Tian, an employee of the East-Asia Airline of the Civil Aviation Bureau of Heilongjiang Province, was told by her supervisor that she would be sent to a rehabilitation center. Yang Tian firmly refused. However, her supervisor had four people transport her by force to the Herbin City Rehabilitation Center. The general secretary of the Airline said, "I think you are transformable. I would spend 100,000 RMB Yuan (about US $12,000) to transform you..."
From March 9th to June 27th, Yang Tian was illegally detained. However, Yang refused to renounce her beliefs. After suffering from severe mental torture, she was released unconditionally. The authorities of the brainwashing class told the Civil Aviation Bureau to take her back. However, after she came back, her employer wouldn't allow her to go home. He put her under house confinement and forced her to write a resignation letter. If she refused, the Civil Aviation Bureau would send her to a re-education labor camp. Yang is still under house confinement.

(Clearwisdom.net) Mama Liu lived in the countryside and was almost seventy. She could not read. She was infected with the early phase of uremia, which kept her in poor health and caused her to vomit, have a poor appetite, and become emaciated and weaker day by day. Her blessing arrived on March 1999 when she obtained Dafa [Great Law; Universal Principles]. One week after practicing Falun Gong, her illness improved a lot. One month after practicing the gentle exercises and studying the Fa, she could walk steadily.
After the evil windstorm of persecuting Falun Gong began in July 1999, she was frightened by the despotic power of evils and did not dare to practice anymore. Nine months later, she was sent to the hospital. The result of physical examination showed it was the final phase of uremia. She felt very regretful. On her sickbed, she told us her experience of cultivation:
"Not long after I started to practice Falun Gong, I was listening to the audiotapes of Master Li's lectures. Suddenly, I felt my body was grabbed briefly and became light. The stuff that had blocked my chest for many years disappeared. Then I felt the rotation of Falun (Law Wheel) in my abdomen. Since then I did not vomit anymore and had a good appetite. One month later, the symptom of urea incontinence disappeared too. I was overjoyed.
"One day, when I stood on a pot to feed my pigeons, I stumbled by accident. At the moment when I fell down I thought I would not be able to move anymore. However, when I was almost touching the ground, I felt a hand give me support. After I stood up, I only felt a little pain on my hipbone and did not have any other trouble. I knew it was Master who protected me.
"After July 20, 1999, although I stopped cultivation, the exercise instruction poster was still hanging in my room. One day five months later, my grandson said to me: Let's take down the exercise instruction poster. Otherwise we will have trouble if the authorities see it. I said, OK, then took it down. Ten days after I took it down, while I was lying on my bed, I felt the stuff which Master had removed from my body come back to me and suddenly blocked my chest. I started to feel sick again.
"I am very regretful now. I should not have believed those lies on TV. I must continue to cultivate after I can stand up."
Despite this, the modern medicine did not allow her to stand up. After living in the hospital for two months, with deep regret she left the human world. The day her body was cremated, outside the smoke window of the cremation stove, along with the elevating smoke, a yellow Falun flew slowly towards the northwest, under the background of the blue sky and white clouds, under the astonished view of everyone there. One of her sons who cultivates and another son who does not cultivate were both deeply shocked.
We have always known that freedom of the press is unknown in China. Any news agency that does not kowtow to the party line is summarily closed. Jiang Zemin's regime now extends its slimy tentacles to the Mediterranean. When senior Epoch Times reporter Wenyi Wang applied for a press card at the European Summit, at the meeting of the EU Parliament in Sweden and at every other place she has ever been, the card was issued within a half hour to two hours. Yet, due to Jiang Zemin's visit to Malta it was denied!
Just as Ms. Wang applied for the press card in order to interview Jiang Zemin, who was expected later that day, three officials from the Chinese Consulate pressured the director. The press card was denied and Ms. Wang was told she would have to see the director to find out the reason. When she asked him, he gave no reason. He merely stated that the decision had been made and it was final.
Wenyi Wang is a Falun Gong practitioner. Falun Gong is outlawed in China, where practitioners are routinely arrested, tortured, maimed and murdered just because they refuse to renounce their spiritual beliefs. To date over 258 human beings have died while in captivity. It isn't enough that Falun Gong is banned in China. Zemin's regime has tried very hard to squash the freedoms of practitioners around the world. These are the real reasons Ms. Wang was forbidden access to the President. Furthermore, practitioners, who planned a demonstration, were shunted out of sight far from Zemin's eyes lest he be offended by their presence.
Not having a press card did not stop Ms. Wang. While on a quiet walk off the
beaten path, she happened upon Jiang Zemin taking a stroll. She asked him to

(Clearwisdom.net) Greetings to Mother and Father! Greetings to the kids! Are you all fine? I received your letter on July 2nd and wrote back to you that night, but it seems that you did not receive my letter. Let me describe my situation here:
My room is about 48 square feet and is occupied by 21 people. Each person has less than three feet of space to live in. We work 12 hours a day carrying equipment which weighs tens of kilograms for printing woolen blankets. We walk wherever we need to go, and we will be beaten if our work is not done well. Each day our three meals are the same: steamed buns and salted water with a few pieces of vegetable. We cannot eat enough to fill us up and thus, we are constantly hungry. Over 200 people have been detained outside in a 12 by 48-foot space. A few days ago, some people passed out due to the hot weather, poor nutrition, long working hours and a lack of rest. Many people got diarrhea, and even they were not allowed to take a rest.
Last year, over 100 of the jailers made moneyáin the amount of over 600,000 Yuan (Chinese currency) for the jail. I mention this because I hope that you do not believe the disgraceful political propaganda, which uses lies to describe the truth and can make up something from nothing. At the end of May in 1999, I remember someone selling materials with slogans slandering the Master and Falun Dafa in front of a park, so I spent 500 Yuan buying all of them in order to destroy them. But later, when the newspaper reported this event, they distorted the facts, saying that I "snatched away all those [materials with] slogans." Therefore, do not believe this propaganda, for those who make it will be thrown into hell after the truth comes out. Please don't have any resistant thoughts towards Dafa; I don't want to see my family members or any kindhearted people believing these evil lies. Of course, the choice is up to you. I can only tell you the principles. Believe me, I am cultivating "Truthfulness, Benevolence and Forbearance."
I could go back home early if I would write the "three letters." This includes a guarantee [not to practice], a letter of repentance, and a letter of exposition; but that would be against my conscience. To write these letters you would need to refer to the lies as truth, you would need to slander the Master and to abuse Dafa. "To be a teacher for one day is being a father for a lifetime," states a traditional virtue of the Chinese nation. My Master teaches me the principles of how to be a good person, and I will do better and better in being a genuine cultivator. I will not slander the Master or slander Dafa for the sake of my own comfort. Just as in the Cultural Revolution, when someone struggled against his own parents in order to pursue personal interest, would his parents be wrong to have given birth to him and nurtured him? No one wants their child to be so selfish as to denounce their parents for the sake of their own comfort.

Editors note: This Dafa disciple used to be a local tyrant who dared to beat the police before he became a Falun Dafa practitioner. It is Dafa that changed him totally and made him a new person. In July 1999, after the persecution against Dafa began, he led his wife and their son who was only 10 years old to Beijing to safeguard Dafa. On October 28, 1999, they were arrested in Tiananmen Square as they were validating the Fa. During his 50 days in the detention center, he refused to give up practicing Falun Gong and insisted on reciting "Hong Yin." He was given the "large board" (a cruel form of torture) for 7 or 8 days. For the rest of the 40 days he was handcuffed to the edge of a bed. Later, he was sent to a labor camp. In the beginning, because he refused to write the "guarantee letter," he was forced to work for more than 19 hours a day sewing footballs by hand. In trying to assert his legal right to practice the exercises in the labor camp, he was beaten black and blue by the guards. In order to protect "Zhuan Falun" he went on a hunger strike for more than 20 days. During this period, he was force-fed many times. His persistence finally wore down the resolve of the guards, who could do nothing but return the book to him. In the labor camp, he is the only one allowed to study the Fa and practice the exercises publicly. Because he does not cooperate with the brainwashing classes in the labor camp, he is regarded having performed poorly and thus, is not allowed to meet with his family members. For over a year we have not received any word as to his situation. Until we saw this letter, we did not know his whereabouts. From his letter we can see that he still possess a rock-solid heart for Dafa and the compassion for sentient beings, even after more than 600 days of painful suffering.

I am a 43-year-old nurse. I have suffered from several diseases since my 33rd birthday. Around the time of the Chinese New Year in 1989, the right side of my body suddenly became paralyzed. My speech was slurred and I had difficulty eating and drinking. The muscles around my eye and mouth sagged uncontrollably, so that I looked like someone who had suffered a stroke. Saliva was constantly drooling from my mouth. I was confined to a hospital bed in agonizing pain. A CT scan showed a chestnut-sized shadow on the right parietal lobe of my brain. I was told I had some kind of brain tumor. My whole family feared for my health. Specialists diagnosed me with multiple sclerosis and prescribed a high dosage of steroids for treatment. Nevertheless, after 10 months, although my condition had become stable, I still could not move my right arm or leg. One and a half years later I developed a severe complication - aseptic necrosis of the femural heads [a difficult to cure bone disease affecting the femur, or, large leg bone]. My left hip became deformed. Doctors explained their diagnosis and directed me to have immediate bed rest. I was told not to walk at all, otherwise I would need to go through several surgeries to have replace the femur bone- heads with artificial replacements. Hearing this, I fell to the floor and cried for a long time. I almost lost the courage to continue to live.
I then had lengthy treatments for aseptic necrosis of the femural heads. I followed a daily herbal treatment regimen. Six times a month, I had to go to the hospital to have the bone pressure relieved by a procedure where doctors drilled into my femural heads under X-ray guidance to inject medicine into my hips. This treatment was extremely painful so that I had to take massive doses of painkillers for 3 days after the procedure. I had been to many places seeking a cure and spent a lot of money on treatments, yet failed to see any worthwhile effects. Day after day for over 3 years I was in excruciating pain.
Then I discovered Falun Dafa. Teacher Li's words moved my heart and led me like a beacon of light to rise out of the bitter sea of suffering. I decided immediately that I wanted to learn Falun Dafa. The same night I finished reading Zhuan Falun, I felt an unbearably sharp pain in my upper body (back and chest) all of a sudden. I rolled off my bed onto the floor in agony. The on-call doctor came and gave me acupuncture and two injections of strong analgesics, to no avail. The next morning, the doctor preformed an ultrasound but could not find anything wrong. I believed that the doctor could not make a diagnosis and could not treat me and that I should just suffer the pain. I was in this torture for six days. On the seventh day, suddenly the pain stopped and I felt like a new person. On the eighth day, a mysterious strength drove me to ride a bicycle to a Falun Gong practice site I could hardly believe it myself. I now realized that I experienced these symptoms because Teacher was purifying my body. Since then, my confidence and determination to practice Falun Dafa have grown much stronger.
I repeatedly read Falun Dafa books. Wind or rain, neither the heat of summer nor the cold of winter have led me to miss the daily outdoor practice session. I measure myself against Falun Dafa's standards in everything that I do and strive forward on the difficult path of cultivation. After firmly practicing Falun Dafa for 1 year and 10 months, I recovered from slurred speech and could clearly read aloud from Zhuan Falun. Instead of strict bed rest, I could ride a bicycle. My ankles and toes are agile and the pain in my hip from the bone disease has disappeared. A follow-up scan confirms that my femural heads have become normal.
Aseptic necrosis of the femural heads is one of the world's most difficult diseases and can't be cured with money or technology. However it quietly disappeared from a Falun Dafa practitioner without any treatment. This is yet another clear demonstration of the miraculous power of Falun Dafa.
(Clearwisdom Net) Since July 1999, the local police station at North Shengli Street in Shijiazhuang City of Hebei Province have closely followed the directives of Jiang Zemin, the "notorious human rights-violations scoundrel." The authorities at that station undertake all kinds of measures to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners. Some of these take the form of forced interrogation by torture, illegal detention, illegal search and seizure of personal residences, extorting "fines," and so on. This tiny, local police station has illegally sentenced four innocent Dafa practitioners to jail and sent at least two Dafa practitioners to a labor camp, all without due process of law. Below is a partial list of the persecutions Dafa practitioners have suffered:
1. Hao Xiuqin, female, 58 years old, originally from Lingshou County of Hebei Province, currently lives in subdivision 4 of the Chemical Fertilizer Factory's residential area. Shortly after practicing Dafa in 1996, many diseases she had suffered, such as myasthenia gravis and high blood pressure, were completely cured. Beginning on July 20, 1999, the evil forces overwhelmingly persecuted practitioners and slandered Dafa. In order to validate Dafa, she went to Beijing to legally appeal for Falun Gong in October of 1999. After her arrest she was handcuffed to a chair overnight in the local representative's office of Shijiazhuang City in Beijing. Later, officers from the North Shengli Street neighborhood police station detained her for fifteen days.
On February 4, 2000, she was illegally detained for 15 days for the outdoor practice of Falun Gong exercises. To protest her unjust detention, she went on a hunger strike for the fifteen days. As a result, two police officers, one male and one female, kicked and beat her for more than an hour. In addition, her detention period was arbitrarily extended for another 15 days. On May 12, 2000, risking her life, she unfurled a banner that said: "The Fa rectifies the cosmos; the nation will be safe and tranquil" at the Tiananmen Rostrum. After the police violently beat her, they sent her to the Yuanshi County Detention Center and, without any legal procedures, sentenced her to 5 years of unjust punishment in jail.
2. Cao Zengfen, female, 46 years old, is a supervisor of the Shijiazhuang Chemical Fertilizer Factory Hotel. She started practicing Falun Gong in October of 1995. In October of 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was subsequently illegally detained for 15 days. In May of 2000, without stating any legal grounds, her employer detained her in the factory's guesthouse. Zheng Qihong, the officer in charge of the North Shengli Street police station, along with 6 or 7 other police personnel, removed Cao from the guesthouse and searched her personal residence. She was illegally imprisoned in the Xinle County Detention Center and then sentenced to five years in jail.
3. Xing Guochang, male, over 60 years old, was previously the Party Secretary of the First Division of Shijiazhuang City Motor Company. He was illegally detained for 15 days after a rightful appeal for Falun Gong in October 1999. Because of his firm determination to practice and cultivate Dafa, he was arrested from home, no reason given. Here is what happened: In February of 2000, Hou Yong, the assistant police chief of the North Shengli Street police station, along with people from the Zhengding County police department, came to his home and took him away. After eleven months of illegal detention in the Zhengding County Detention Center, he then was sentenced to five--and-a-half years in jail, all without due process of law.
4. Meng Zhaowen, male, 47 years old, was an employee of the General Overhaul Workshop at Shijiazhuang's Chemical Fertilizer Factory. In July and October of 1999, he was arrested twice directly from home and both times illegally detained for 15 days. On January 28, 2000, Hou Yong, the assistant chief of the local police station and personnel from the Lingshou County police department arrested him at his work place. After being illegally imprisoned in Lingshou County's Detention Center for nearly 1 year, he was illegally sentenced to 3 years in jail.
5. Dang Lanfeng, female, 56 years old, is a retired employee of the Chemical Fertilizer Factory's Hospital, and lives in subdivision 4 of the Chemical Fertilizer Factory's residential area. In order to clarify the truth of Dafa and validate Dafa, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in October of 1999. Dang Lanfeng was then illegally imprisoned in the Xinle County Detention Center. Later she was illegally sent to a labor camp for three years.
6. Liu Xing, female, over 50 years old. She is an employee of the Cloth-making Machine Workshop of the Fourth City-run Cotton Manufacturing Factory. In October of 1999 she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was illegally detained for 15 days. On February 4, 2000, she was again illegally detained for 15 days for practicing Falun Gong outdoors. On May 13, 2000, she was once more arrested at the Shijiazhuang train station on her way to Beijing, where she wanted to display a banner to clarify and validate Dafa. Due to the beatings at the hands of the officers from the North Shengli Street police station, the right corner of her mouth was torn and swollen, causing her face to be deformed. In July of 2000, she went to Beijing again to unfurl a banner to clarify and validate Dafa. She was arrested yet again and imprisoned at the Shijiazhuang First Detention Center. Later she was sent to a forced labor camp for 3 years.
7. Liu Yueyun is the husband of Liu Xing. In October of 1999, he was detained for 15 days for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. On February 4, 2000, he was imprisoned in the First Detention Center for practicing Falun Gong exercises outdoors. He is being held at this detention center even now.
8. Ma Shuqin, female, is over 60 years old and was the director of the Neighborhood Commission for subdivision 4 of the Chemical Fertilizer Factory's residential area, as well as a representative to the City People's Congress. She was illegally imprisoned in the Shijiazhuang First Detention Center for clarifying the truth of Falun Dafa to the public. Her family members were forced to pay 5,000 Chinese Yuan extortion money in return for her "release while awaiting trial." [5,000 Yuan represents almost one year's income for a Chinese worker].
9. Geng Shuqin is a 43-year-old woman, Meng Zhaowen's wife. She is an employee at the Chemical Fertilizer Factory and lives in subdivision 4 of the Chemical Fertilizer Factory's residential area. In July of 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was arrested and imprisoned. In October of 1999, she went to Beijing again to appeal for Falun Gong. She was left overnight on the freezing marble floor of the local representative's office of Shijiazhuang City in Beijing. Later on she was illegally detained for 15 days by the North Shengli Street police station. At the end of October 2000, she was forced to leave home.
10. Cui Shuqin, female, 51 years old, lives in Shijiazhuang's Retired Government Officers Institute's dormitory. She was arrested and detained in the local police station for distributing Dafa truth-telling materials. Her family was forced to pay 5,000 Chinese Yuan extortion money in return for her release.
11. Hu Mingzhi, male, over 50 years old, is Cao Zengfen's spouse. He works as a clerk. In October 1999, he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was illegally detained for 15 days at the local police station. During this period, the police, having no good reason, often harassed his family members. His 18-year-old daughter, Hu Yachan, has a Community College degree. In October of 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and was illegally detained for seven days.
12. Pan Shuxia, female, 50 years old, is a worker of Shijiazhuang City's Motor Company. In October of 1999 she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was illegally detained for 15 days. On February 4, 2000, she was illegally detained again for 15 days for practicing outdoor Falun Gong exercises. On May 13, 2000, she was arrested at the Shijiazhuang train station on her way to Beijing to display a banner to clarify and validate Dafa. Her personal residence was searched. The police shocked her with electric batons and beat her with their fists. Pan Shuxia's left eye was seriously bruised from the beatings. On top of that, she was illegally imprisoned in the Xinle County Detention Center and her family members were forced to pay 5,000 Chinese Yuan extortion money in return for her "release while awaiting trial."
13. Wang Xiaoying, female, 56years old, is a retired worker of Shijiazhuang's Chemical Fertilizer Factory who lives in the factory's No.4 dormitory. When she went to appeal for Falun Dafa in October 1999, she was illegally detained for 15 days. On July 20, 2000, together with two of her daughters, Ren Yanfang and Ren Yanzhi, she was forcibly taken away from home and sent to a brainwashing class where they were brainwashed for two weeks! Each of them was forced to pay 200 Yuan. On January 22, 2001, Wang and her two daughters were again forcibly taken to another brainwashing class where they were held more than twenty days and released only after they were extorted a payment 2,000 Yuan, an amount equal to several months income.
14. Wang Hua is the 23-year-old daughter of Dang Lanfeng. She lives in unit 15-1-101 of the factory's No.4 dormitory. She graduated from Hebei Province's Medical University. She also was illegally detained for 15 days in October 1999 when she went to appeal for Falun Dafa. On July 20, 2000, she was forcibly sent to a brainwashing class and detained for two weeks. As of January 22, 2001, she was again illegally detained in another brainwashing class for over a month. To get her released, her family had to pay an extortion fee of 1,500 Yuan.
15. Sun Qingjun, female, is 24 years old. Before she was fired, she was an employee of the Labor and Service Company subsidiary of the fertilizer factory. Her home is in unit 2-1-301 of the factory's No.4 dormitory. In October 1999, she exercised her legal rights and went to appeal for Falun Dafa. After that, she was illegally detained for 15 days. On July 20, 2000, local police forcibly took her away from her home and put her in a brainwashing class for half a month. On January 22, 2001 she was again abducted from her home and sent to another brainwashing class for a month. Her family was forced to pay 1,500 Yuan before she was released.
16. Lu Shujun, female, 45 years old, is a worker at Shijiazhuang City's Automobile Manufacturing Company. In December 1999, she went to appeal for Falun Dafa and was illegally detained for 15 days. On February 4, 2000, she practiced Falun Dafa exercises outside of her home and was illegally detained for one month in Shijiazhuang City's No. 1 Detention Center. On July 20, 2000, she was forcibly taken away from her home and put into a brainwashing class for two weeks. On January 22, 2001, she was again abducted from her home and detained in another brainwashing class for as long as 24 days. She was not released until her family was pressured into paying 2,400 Yuan extortion money.
17. Zhao Zhijun, male, 47 years old, also works for Shijiazhuang City's Automobile Manufacturing Company. In December 1999 he went to appeal for Falun Dafa and therefore was illegally detained for 15 days. On February 4, 2000, he was illegally detained for another 15 days because he practiced Falun Gong exercises outside his home. On July 20, 2000, he was forcibly taken away from his home and put into a brainwashing class for two weeks. His employer was forced to pay 200 Yuan extortion money before he was released.
18. Wang Shulin, male, 48 years old, is a worker of Shijiazhuang City's Automobile Manufacturing Company. In October 1999, he went to appeal for Falun Dafa, a right guaranteed by Chinese law and was illegally detained for 15 days. On February 4, 2000 he was illegally detained for another 15 days because he practiced Falun Gong exercises at the Hebei Provincial Theater. On October 1, 2000 he was detained again in a detention center in Beijing because he went to Beijing to validate Dafa and spread the truth. After five days of detention in Beijing, he was taken away by officers from the North Shengli Street Police Sub-Station and detained there for 15 days.
19. Wen Fenglan, female, 58 years old, lives in the dormitory of Shijiazhuang City's Automobile Manufacturing Company. In October 1999 she went to appeal for Falun Dafa and was subsequently illegally detained for 15 days. On July 20, 2000 she was taken away from her home against her will and put into a brainwashing class. Her family was extorted 200 Yuan. On January 22, 2001 she was again abducted from her home and sent to another brainwashing class for 24 days. Her family was forced to pay a fee of 2,000 Yuan.
20. Ren Yanchun and his son were abducted from their home and sent to a brainwashing class for two weeks. They were released after they paid 200 Yuan extortion money. On January 22, 2001 they were taken away again and brainwashed for an additional 26 days. They were not released until after each of them, under duress, was forced to pay 1,500 Yuan.
21. Ma Shuling, female, 58 years old, lives in the Textile Factory's No. 6 dormitory. In December 2000, she went to appeal for Falun Dafa and was afterwards illegally detained for a month. Her family was forced to pay about 3,000 Yuan extortion money for her release. On January 22, 2001, she was sent to another brainwashing class for 22 days. To gain her release this time, her family was forced to pay another 1,500 Yuan fine.
22. Wang Yun, female, is over 50 years old. On July 20, 2000, she was arrested and put into a brainwashing class for two weeks. She was forced to pay over 200 Yuan. On January 22, 2001, she was taken away again from her home and sent to a brainwashing class for 22 days. To get released, she was forced to pay 2,000 Yuan.
The list of persons being persecuted goes on and on.
Good will be rewarded with good and evil will be met with evil. The heavenly law cannot tolerate the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners. Now Shijiazhuang City is facing various types of natural disasters, such as a heat wave, draught, hail, insect plagues, mad-cow disease, hoof and mouth disease, and others. People, please do ponder the future of your lives and courageously stand up for the righteous side. Let us act together to resist this unprecedented, evil persecution. We will definitely form a strong power of justice in this world and the evil will have no place to hide.

(Clearwisdom Net) Under the evil directives of Jiang Zemin, the Public Security Bureau in Hejian city, Hebei province increased their persecution of innocent Falun Dafa practitioners. Some practitioners were sentenced to labor camps, some were illegally detained on several occasions, and some practitioners' families were torn apart, rendering them homeless. The thugs also extorted money from practitioners. According to incomplete statistics, the total amount has reached over ten thousand RMB.
On July 8, 2001, Su Songcai, Director of the Public Security Bureau of Hejian city, along with four people, went to Cangzhou to attend a meeting. When they went back past the Guanting area, they had a car accident. Su Songcai's ribs were broken and he injured his lung. His right leg was fractured and he lost consciousness. They had to transfer him to a hospital in Beijing because the hospital in Cangzhou made a mistake when diagnosing his injury. In this accident, the chief procurator was slightly wounded.
We sternly warn the immoral police: if you do not wake up from your evil behavior sooner, you will surely be punished according to the laws and principles of heaven!
Greetings Master, greetings everyone! I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota and I run a small computer consulting business to make a living. The work hours are quite flexible and it gives me the opportunity to spend much time doing volunteer work for Dafa. I have no family, live by myself, and, as a consultant, have no true co-workers, so there is no one I interact with, communicate with, and have conflicts with on a regular basis. Or so it seems. But every practitioner has a unique path to follow, and I have come to see in my own life how it is that conditions will be provided for us to cultivate, no matter what the surface situation of our everyday lives in society.
It is clear to me that my life circumstances have been arranged so that I will have the free time, worldly skills, and other resources needed to devote a lot of time to working for Dafa. These circumstances mean that I have a responsibility that I accept willingly and take seriously. Each of us "Dafa particles" have a unique and special role to play during this unprecedented period of Fa-rectification, and each of us has a role that is glorious in ways that we cannot yet realize or understand. I have accepted that my role often puts me "out front," in very visible or audible positions, behind a microphone or in front of a parade. But as a person who was very shy as a boy, this role of being so visible is itself frequently a test, a way to expose and get me to handle many attachments.
It would be easier, safer, and simpler if I could just cultivate quietly, without anyone knowing who I am or what I stand for--but then there would be fewer tests, fewer occasions when my attachments get prodded and poked. I knew that the possibility of me trying to keep my practice of Dafa a private matter was gone forever when a photo of me doing the sitting exercise appeared in the largest newspaper in the state. This happened two years ago following a news conference that we held to inform local media about the persecution in China that was just beginning. After my photo appeared, people didn't stop me in the street or point to me in restaurants or anything so dramatic, but I fully realized that, from then on, it was my job to "go public" with my practice and to tell everyone about Dafa and the persecution.
Teacher says in Lecture Four of Zhuan Falun:
"...you are practicing cultivation among everyday people. You will not be suddenly turned upside down with your head facing the ground, flying up there and suffering in the air--it won't be like that. Everything will assume the form of everyday situations, such as someone may have irritated you today, someone has upset you, someone has mistreated you, or someone suddenly speaks to you with no respect. It is to see how you will react to these issues."
As I mentioned, I have relatively few occasions to cultivate through handling conflicts with nonpractitioners in society, and when I do experience such conflicts, I often--but certainly not always--find it not too difficult to be accepting, forgiving, and compassionate to the person who has misunderstood me or provided me some other test. Yet, in my volunteer work for Dafa, arranging activities with other practitioners or trying to communicate and coordinate, there arise moments of conflict with other practitioners. And this is the odd thing: while it seems I have an ever-improving capacity to be kind and patient to nonpractitioners, my threshold for getting irritated seems to drop when conflicts happen with other practitioners.
I see this as being taken care of in cultivation, that is, having situations provided for me in which I experience mental tribulations. These moments of conflict with other practitioners force me to look hard at myself, to look even deeper inside myself to search for the source of the problem. When I have a conflict with practitioners, I know it's not just superficial and it's not because they place self-interest foremost, because they do not. Conflicts between practitioners are substantial xinxing conflicts. The other practitioners are also cultivating themselves, working hard for Dafa, and trying to meet the universal criteria of Zhen-Shan-Ren. So I am required to dig deeper inside and examine myself more thoroughly to find the cause of the problem when disagreements and conflicts surface between another cultivator and me.
This is such an excellent cultivation environment. During this Fa-rectification period, we practitioners from all over the world must work together closely to expose the evil and tell the truth. Dafa particles working together continuously and closely is part of the design for this time period, and one result of this is that practitioners can help each other to improve more rapidly in many ways.
I said earlier that I take my responsibility seriously, yet I have found that even such concepts as "responsibility" and "respect" that are considered good in the everyday society can, at times, become attachments or problems themselves. This is one lesson I learned during the time when I was helping to coordinate activities in Geneva this year during the UN Commission on Human Rights. That was a tremendous opportunity for all of us to clarify the truth to the world and also to work with practitioners from many countries. The pressures and interference were high, and we had to accomplish a lot in a very short time. Things kept changing or going contrary to expectations, nothing seemed smooth, and we slept little. As one practitioner joked, "Didn't you sleep before you came to Geneva?"
In this situation there was nothing to do but just recognize attachments as they came up and then let them go instantly--there was no time to hesitate, procrastinate, rationalize, or complain in one's mind. We had too much work to do! So I think we all could feel the improvement in ourselves, which was aided by studying the Fa together before most meetings and in the evenings.
One small incident taught me a lot. We were staying up late in the hotel, trying to get work done, and some practitioners kept going in and out of the hotel after the door had been locked, which caused the night attendant extra work. I went down to the lobby to wait for some practitioners to return, and the attendant started yelling and gesturing angrily at me. My French is not very good, but I could tell he was saying something like, "This is my responsibility, and you have no respect for me!" "Respect" and "responsibility," he clearly said these words several times.
As a practitioner, I didn't respond angrily to him, but apologized several times, even though I had not gone in or out myself or caused him any trouble directly. I quickly realized that this has something to do with me, the fact that he yelled at me and not someone else. Later as I thought about this, I understood that I was feeling responsible for the other practitioners, our work, their behavior--maybe too responsible. It had become an attachment at that time, and is actually a long-standing attachment in my life--it goes along with being the oldest son in a big family, perhaps.
Beyond this, I came to understand that some outstanding values and priorities of everyday society--important and noble words like "responsibility" and "respect"...as practitioners, we cannot place these too high. These values have to be subordinate to, to be contained within the greater, ultimate, and supreme characteristics of Zhen-Shan-Ren. We must always hold these highest; this has become even more clear to me. We honor everyday values while we are in society, but always keep our sights set on the highest-level values.

Hello everyone! I am a Dafa practitioner from Maine. I am very happy to be here, to clarify the truth to sentient beings, and also to understand more about the city and to meet some of the DC practitioners, because I will be attending Georgetown University this fall. I began my path of cultivation about a year and a half ago. I would like to talk briefly about how I attained Dafa and then my Hongfa experiences in my high school over the past year.
Towards the end of 1999, a local practitioner who attended the same high school as I introduced Dafa to me. At the time, I was very interested in cultivation, but I did not understand it. I was practicing something else at the time, and I thought that Falun Dafa was "too easy" because it did not have enough precepts and requirements. I read a little of China Falun Gong and Zhuan Falun, but I did not give myself a chance to understand Dafa. Nevertheless, when I decided to live in Paraguay, South America, for six months, I brought Zhuan Falun with me.
About two or three weeks after arriving in Paraguay, I felt very peaceful and harmonious while in the sitting meditation, so I decided to try to read Zhuan Falun again and learn more about Falun Dafa. This time, it seemed like the book just opened up to me. I was immediately drawn to the boundless and pure content of Zhuan Falun. I can remember just thinking, "Wow, this is really great! I want to cultivate." What a precious thought! I immediately dropped my previous practice and set down the glorious path of Dafa cultivation.
For those six months, I practiced and read fairly diligently. But I did not understand Hongfa, nor did I truly conduct myself as a practitioner in everyday society. As Master said, "In the past, whether people practiced qigong in parks or at home, they did it with much effort and dedication, and they practiced quite well. Once they stepped out the door, they would act differently and go their own way, competing and fighting with others for fame and profit among everyday people." I was one of those people. Looking back, I notice that I progressed very slowly in that environment. I returned to the US in August of 2000 and for the first time after attaining the Fa met with other practitioners.
After attending the New York Experience Sharing Conference in the fall of 2000, I strongly felt that I should assist Teacher in the human world. I decided that the best place to Hongfa would be in my high school. Here are some of my experiences:
Outdoor Practice
One of the first ways that I spread Fa to my high school was by practicing in front of the school. I found a perfect place so that nearly everyone who came to school, by bus or by car, would see me. At first I thought "What will people think of me?" I felt it very difficult to let go of my human notions. At first, I could not muster up the courage to practice, but as soon as I set my mind with determination to show my classmates and teachers Dafa, I overcame the fear easily. I find that to be a common occurrence. Master said, "You must remember this: Cultivation itself is not painful -- the key lies in your inability to release attachments. Only when you are about to let go of your reputation, interests, and feelings will you feel pain (Essentials for Further Advancement)."
At first, people were indifferent to Falun Dafa. But it was my determination in practicing that truly opened their hearts to the power of Dafa. When winter came, it was cold and dark outside, and the ground was covered with snow. Every day was a struggle for me. The physical pain of getting up early and the cold were very hard for me to bear. I can remember one day after practice clenching my teeth in agony as my feet thawed from being frozen. But I still went almost every day and would not give up. I knew that Dafa had high requirements for me and that I had to meet them. Anyway, Master said, "Physical pain can hardly be counted as painful \ Cultivating one's heart is most excruciating. ("Tempering One's Mind and Heart", Hong Yin)".
My determination truly had a powerful effect on people. After they saw a manifestation of Ren on the ordinary level, they became much more interested in Dafa. Many signed my petition when I brought it around, and some even came out to learn the exercises. Even the very conservative Headmaster and Vice Headmaster of my high school were impressed and expressed their support for Dafa. It is like what Master said in "The Knowing Heart": "Actions reveal what is True."
Variety Show
In February of this year, I heard that my school was putting on a variety show. At first I didn't think of doing an exercise demonstration for the show, but one event quickly changed my mind. The lady who was running the show specifically came up to me and asked me to perform the movements for the show. I knew instantly that Master was giving me an opportunity to Hongfa and quickly agreed. But there was a problem. I needed to perform with others from my school, so I couldn't get the help of fellow practitioners. But then I realized that this was a great opportunity to get non- -- practitioners involved in the Fa -- rectification so that they could position themselves for the future. I quickly found three others to go onstage with me.
Time was short, however, and we had to move quickly. One day school was cancelled because of the weather, so I used the opportunity to meet with all of the non -- practitioners to show them the exercises. They were all very brave. They had only gone over the exercises a few times, but still performed them in front of all of their friends and relatives. In addition, we had a tape playing Pudu with a voice - over explaining Falun Dafa, the exercises, and the persecution. All of us overcame our fear of losing face in order to clarify the truth to kindhearted people. Overall, the event was very successful. Many people heard the Dafa of the cosmos and the Truth of the situation in China, and one of the non -- practitioners began to practice outside with me every day.
Graduation
Now I understand much more the importance of conducting oneself as a Dafa disciple in all aspects of daily life. Doing well in school truly opened up to me a precious Hongfa opportunity. I was fourth in my graduating class and was one of four selected to give a speech at my graduation. I understood that this was a Hongfa opportunity that I could not pass up; over 1000 people would be in attendance.
I thought and thought about how to present Dafa to my audience. My mother actually gave me the suggestion of showing examples of how my high school valued Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, instead of just explaining my understanding to the audience. I also made many references to Falun Dafa and the persecution. I worked for hours on the speech trying to perfect it and had a lot of help from others as well. When I finally finished the speech, I was very happy with it. Not only was it fairly well - written, but I truly felt that it was imbued with the Compassion that only a Dafa practitioner could display.
As I stepped up to the podium to deliver my speech for Graduation, I felt a bit of nervousness. But that was just on the surface, and as I delved into my speech, all fear melted away and I just thought of Dafa and my audience. I could barely keep myself from tears as I concluded; I just felt so happy for everyone who had the great fortune to hear Dafa.
The speech had a powerful effect on everyone. I received many compliments; one of my teachers said that she would remember the speech for years. Earlier that day, a boy sitting behind me was cursing loudly and being disruptive. But after my speech, he kindly said to me, "Nice speech. It was awesome that you got up in front of that many people." I was really touched to hear that. Dafa cuts through all human notions and touches the heart most deeply.
Master Li said in his statement to the Nordic Fa Conference, "...every student should, in addition to participating in group activities, in his daily life fully take the initiative of a Dafa disciple, establish his own mighty virtue in the process of clarifying the truth, and do well on his own Dafa disciple's path. So in clarifying the truth, don't wait, don't rely on others, and don't just hope for changes in external factors." This statement struck me deeply and pierced my human notions about Hongfa. Before, I had thought, "I just live in a small town, and there are very few practitioners around. In addition, I am just 18 years old. How can I Hongfa?" These were all human notions, and completely invalid during Fa - rectification. We can all use different means to promote Dafa and clarify the Truth, in a group or individual setting. Part of my purpose of writing this paper was to share my understanding that no matter who or where you are, you can find ways to Hongfa and save sentient beings. Master said, "The Great Tao is formless."
I would like to end my paper with the poem "Smile." Oftentimes when I read this, tears come to my eyes. This poem has such boundless Compassion. It seems so perfect to me that the action Master performs in order to save us is not a wave of the hand or some words, but a simple, infinitely compassionate smile.

I smile -- Dafa begins spreading.
I smile -- the ferry sets off.
I smile -- all beings have hope."

This evening I sent forth the purest, most steadfast righteous thoughts I have been able to muster thus far, since the first time we all did this together at the 2001 Canada Conference.
Afterwards, I reflected on why this had been so.
The night before I had further broken through laziness and practiced late at night, alone. I also did Dafa work on my computer, translation, and wrote a letter clarifying the truth of the persecution to a reporter.
In the morning I hurried to work, and called ahead to let my boss know that I was running a bit late, instead of just arriving late. I took a bit more responsibility.
At work, I worked hard and steadily, and paid a lot of attention to the tapes of Master's Fa-lectures that I was able to listen to while working. I listened to the Fa more whole-heartedly, and at lunch I practiced some more and sent forth righteous thoughts, rather than taking a nap or wasting my time.
When some filthy demons tried to interfere with my mind, rather than passively letting them ruin me as I had in the past, I sharpened my will, recited "The Fa rectifies the Cosmos, the Evil is Completely Eliminated", and thought "You should not even exist at all. I am a Dafa disciple and you are evil that should be destroyed; in fact you no longer exist."
I took the time to talk with a schoolmate for a while, and chat and joke with fellow employees, professors, and graduate students.
After work, I took the long bus ride home, and battled demons of sleepiness in the 35 degree Celsius (95 F) heat, and won. I was thus able to study more Fa on the bus.
Walking home, I sent forth righteous thoughts again, the Fa-rectifying verse filling my mind, rather than letting my mind wander all over the place or follow the thought-karma.
I ate quickly and went to the practice site where predestined people were waiting to learn the exercises, and helped them learn. I thought of them first, glad to help, rather than feeling selfish about being unable to focus on my 'own' practicing.
I took the time to call a relative to wish them happy birthday and talk with them, too.
At 11PM, I joined other North American practitioners in sending forth righteous thoughts, and was successful.
I had for a few days had some trouble doing so, and I now realize that the critical component was how I was placing myself with respect to the Fa and all sentient beings. I had slipped back into selfish cultivation, thinking I should simply study Fa more and practice more in order to clear my mind. The demons then took full advantage. When I remembered to clarify the truth and offer people salvation, the benevolence of a Dafa disciple could shine forth, and I rejoined the current of Fa-rectification: Fa-study was more effective, tranquility deeper, and righteous thoughts becoming ever-increasingly powerful.
At the Canada conference, Master said:
"I know that you've all worked so hard. You have to work and have to study, you have your family life and social activities, and at the same time you have to take care of your family, do a good job at work, and you have to study the Fa well and do the exercises well, and what's more, you have to clarify the truth. It is hard! It's pretty hard both time-wise and financially. It's hard, so your mighty virtue is displayed; it's hard, and so it's a good opportunity to establish your mighty virtue. Remarkable! Since you are cultivators, even though it's hard you should do even better. That's all I'll say."

I now realize how crucial it is to truly be "full of great aspirations while minding minor details." (Sage). On the surface level, we conform to the state of ordinary human society. In deeper levels, it also involves the issue of our ability to do everything we should do well, as this is written for the future -- many manifestations of its significance are not yet apparent, but nonetheless crucial. Doing the minor details well is also being responsible to Dafa and all sentient beings, present and future, and strengthens our righteous thoughts.
