Throughout my years in public service, human rights issues have always been important to me. I believe that the United States must sustain efforts to press for worldwide adherence to democratic principles, respect for basic human rights, and the rule of law. As president, working bilaterally and through international institutions. I will fight to promote universal adherence to international standards of human rights, especially for the most vulnerable or traditionally oppressed groups in the world -- women, children, workers, refugees and other persecuted persons.
