A Brief Comment on the Recent Official Editorial by the Chinese Government

According to reports from foreign news agencies, the state-controlled newspapers in Mainland China are now launching another propaganda offensive against Falun Gong. Their writing is in the style of the propaganda attacks that were used during the Cultural Revolution in which they accused a former Chinese leader and his close circle of being "traitors," "secret agents of the enemy," "enemies of the state," and "agents of U. S. imperialism."

Committee of Concerned Scientists' Open Letter to Jiang Zemin

Committee of Concerned Scientists (CCS) is an independent organization that was founded by scientists and scholars in 1972. Today it has 5000 members. Its main purpose is to protect and advance the human rights and scientific freedom of scientists throughout the world. In 1999, it helped two colleagues in China by either sending messages to high-level Chinese or initiating a petition drive via the Internet. This year it started a petition drive on behalf of 11 scientists and students who are persecuted for engaging in pro-democracy advocacy.

Since ancient times, the wise rulers have always listened to the will of the heavens and conformed to the hearts of the people, accumulating achievements and building merit, and as a result the nation would be stable and the people content. Ruthless rulers, on the other hand, would go in the opposite direction, spreading violence and tyranny, so that the people could not live in peace.
