"It Is Not a Crime to Be a Good Person"

On January 12, 2000, the Court of Chang-an District, Shi-jia-zhuang City put Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Liang Ye-ning, on a show trial. Although a poster outside the Court claimed that people from all walks of life were "welcome" to audit the trial, many practitioners had received a notice from their supervisors that they were not allowed to take a leave from their work to attend the trial. On that day, it was snowing. The police dispelled more than 50 people who attempted to audit the trail to 20 meters away from the Court. The show-trial lasted for only one and a half hours. The following was a description of the show-trial by those who managed to audit the trial.

My name is Liang Ye-ning, female. I am 30 years old. I am a Falun Dafa practitioner from Shi-jia-zhuang City, Hebei province. I was a former employee in the finance section of a company. I started to practice Falun Dafa since June 1994. Up to now, I have practiced cultivation for about 5 years. Seven of my family members are practicing Falun Dafa. I have a 2-year-old son. I have been a contact person of Falun Dafa since I started to practice Falun Dafa. On April 25th of 1999 I went to Beijing to appeal. I went to Beijing to appeal again after many contact people of Falun Dafa were arrested on July 20th of 1999. Since then, I have not gone home yet.

My first Experiences in Falun Gong

My name is Yvonne Neville Marcotte. Since I’ve come upon Falun Gong very thing is changed. I’ve been on a spiritual quest all my life. Born into an Irish-German Catholic family in Wisconsin, my parents told me that I could recite the Hail Mary at the age of three. You could say I was spiritually precocious! I remember wanting to be a nun from the age of six. Later on, I did train to become a nun and remained in the religious life until the eve of my final vows. However, religious life for me was becoming more meaningless. I didn’t seem connected to God and the good works I did were not personally satisfying. The year before I was to take final vows I seriously doubted I could live this life. It was no longer the fulfilling experience I expected and longed for as a child. With many tears, I left my religious community. After several years working in a law office, I met my husband, married and had a daughter. I earned my MBA at atop business school and moved to New Hampshire. But there was still an emptiness in my soul. I was very grateful for the grounding in religious values and theological education that Catholicism and religious life gave me, but I was searching for something to fill my soul, to make my life worth living.
